Hey-
This is a question for bong enthusiasts.
What are your thoughts on ash catchers? I attached a pic of one if you don't know what I'm talking about.
But anyways, what's the verdict? Do they filter the smoke enough to actually make a difference? Or is this one of those products that headshops just try to convince us that we need it?
And do I have to buy another down stem to put in the ash catcher?
PS. - I don't know how to make polls, so bear with me...

ashcatchers not only filter the smoke more than w/o it but it allows more smoke to build up its like an extra chamber so u get more smoke which is very nice....and my friend has the nicest bong i've ever seen and it does hav an ashcatcher so im a fan!

I like ashcatchers. They add more room for bigger hits and they do help filter a bit. I think the best aspect of them though is the fact that it does what its name implies, it catches the ashes. It keeps all the ash from getting into your bong and dirtying it up; it makes for much easier cleaning.

It should just fit right where your bowl goes on your bong, then use your bowl in the ash-catcher.

usually not, with the one you pictured; yes I would beleive as it looks like it is designed to fit over a tube. look at the cheap one at www.northwestglassart.com. you do NOT need a downstem for that

They're alright, but defidently not needed. I've used one before, but I wasn't all that impressed. No complaint either, mind you, but not impressed.

The fact that it fascilitates cleaning is enough of a reason for me to have one.
