The roots need oxygen that's why there's perlite, pumas etc mixed in so this way the roots are in the water and food 24/7 and the soil microbes can still work because they need oxygen too. This would be more forgiving than hydro try it I would if I was indoors, hey maybe a solar powered one.......

dude wher do you think they get the dirt from :) all kind of bugs can be in the fresh dirt :) thats why you buy the bedst you can find :P
