Last month I found out I was going to have an employment related drug test coming up, so i stopped smoking and got some home test strips to see how I was doing. Within about 8-9 days I started passing the home tests so I thought the lab test would be no problem. Then the day of the test (8/9 - 23 days after i stopped smoking) I found out it was a hair test, not a urine test. That scared the crap out of me, but luckily when I went in to give the sample they told me that my hair was too short so they would be doing a urine test instead. (I'm an athlete & I keep everything trimmed short, including legs, etc.) The thing is that I don't know if they did the urine test with a 50ng or 20ng cutoff. I think I should alright either way, since it was about 2 weeks from passing the 50ng home tests until I gave the lab sample, but I can't say for sure so I'm still kind of nervous.

I know the general consensus seems to be that no news is good news, and if you don't hear anything back then you probably passed. What concerns me is that a female employee I know took the test the same day, but she had to do the hair test and I don't see any that way she could have passed it. She was a regular smoker and didn't take any steps to prepare her hair, other than quitting smoking for the same 23 days that I did. She hasn't heard anything back either, and today is 11 days since the test was taken. The sample was sent to Quest Labs, who say they typically return results in 72 hours or less. What could be going on here? Is it just HR dragging their feet? It's not a situation where we can just call and ask for our start date either. I don't think she could have passed it, but I also don't know why it would take this long to hear anything back.

I guess I should just wait it out until the end of this week before assuming I passed?

If you already have a 'start date' secured, just show up for work and carry on with your duties with the "I dont use drugs, so my drug test is a non-issue" mindset. In the world of drug testing, no news means good news. There wont be any ticker-tape parades with banners shouting "you passed", because a person is expected to be clean.
Dont bring up the subject of 'drug test' to anyone. You'll be notified one way or another if there were any problems with the drug test.

It took 7 e days for hr to clear me. I was worried after day 3 but, from what I understand, an mro would call you after 3 days if anything came up positive. I passed after 40 days clean.
