making your own name for a strain ?

ok lets just say hypothetically that if you deal with a medicine man for many months and slowly collect a handful of seeds from his good good green... everytime you ask him for a name of the particular strain of medicine, he says " not really sure " or comes up with some lame generic name like "fire" .... and you decide well i am going to grow that "fire" ...

so growing time goes by and you decide on a funky name..

the plants turn out super killer and people ( close friends you medicate with ) start calling it by your name.....

is that wrong ?? i mean how the heck are you supposed to even know the name of the strain if your medicine man doesn't even know ??

sure, no problems. if there isn't any coherent name for a strain how else are you going to relate to it than give it a name? Say you have a bag of your homegrown and then you grow out another strain? Just give them new names. It would probably be best not to use "KUSH", "OG" or "HAZE" though.
Just like a lost/found pet. Sure it had a name before but it needs a name whether it's the same name or not is not the issue.

I have a similar issue. I got some stuff from my guy and it had some seed. Well my motto is don't throw em out throw em outside. One of those seeds made purple bud, deep purple bud. The stuff my guy gave me he said was Silver Haze. Silver Haze normally is not purple and I could not find any reference to a purple pheno in the strain reviews or anywhere. I've been leaning towards calling it Mystical Purple. Closest strain I found name wise was Purple Mystic so I may use something else. like My woman from Tokyo

not sure yet on funky name. lol... but one guy always tells me what the strain and what the name of it is ( he is really trying to get a hold of something that will kill the pain in my back, so he is atleast trying ) my other guy rattles off names like fire, loud, or kush , or og.. but i dont really believe him lol.

I was thinking on naming it pink pantie droppah :hippy:
