Well as it say's. I am a newb. I am trying it just to see if I can then go from there. Not a huge smoker but working on getting a license for medical reasons. Long story but messed myself up really bad 5 years ago at work. In constant pain and I don't want to take perks or T3's anymore.

I currently have 4 clones. No idea of breed or anything expect they are plants and was told they are meant for indoor growing. It was a last minute thing and I just quickly toss everything so far together and as time allows properly setting it up.

Soil: When I got them (5 days ago), the root ball was growing out the bottom and quickly transplanted them into regular 5gal pails with holes drilled and just bagged potting soil. I will have time next week to properly setup the pails with a proper soil mix (4parts soil, 2 parts perlite, 1 parts sand, and 1 part horse manure). Also the burn marks came with plants. I have fertilized once with 20/20/20 at half strength (Listed below). I also need to pick up PH sticks.

Lights: As of now All I have are 4-4" T8's. 2 of the lights are Gro-Lux and 2 are cool whites (4100k), and am only putting out 9000lumens. I am running a 20/4 cycle as of now. plant on switching out to a 6 lamp T5.I added the white paper around the buckets cuz the soil settled. I started about 2" from the top.

Location:. I have a white walled 2X4X8 closet now with fans blowing. Pics below.

Quesitons:
How do the plants themselves look? The seem light green to me and shouldn't they be darker?
For the size of the grow room how many watts/lumens should I aim for?

Any other advice would be helpful!

how it sits now:

Plants: Friend gave me clones who are from a friend of a friend of a friend. Any idea what they are? Or to soon to tell?

Looks like a very solid start, think plants look good, let there be light, more light. Then watch temps, May be hot in July

finally got the soil switched out yesterday. I can't believe how much it settled and packed down. The root's on a matter of 5-6 day's exploded! There was still a good root ball so I'm not worried about them bouncing back. My manure though didn't workout so I just mixed soil as follows: 3parts 3 way top soil, 2 parts peat moss and 2 parts sand. Soil is much nicer. THe other thing was I was surprised how warm the soil was. It still had moisture but the soil was almost hot. I'm thinking about picking up a bag of white stone ground cover to help reflect the heat.

wouldn't recommend a form of mulch in indoor because you can always supply it with water and mulch would restrict the roots from getting air warm soil is natural let the soil dry before adding water and you are using construction sand because sandbox sand isn't good and 2 parts sand is a little much try perlite instead o and all you need to know about fertilizing is less is more, nitrogen in veg phosphorus in flower, and always use some cal mag because every grower will run into a sub nute deficiency that will reduce yield now how many watts dose your lights put out also figure how many lumens and how much kavin they put out then you will be able to grow some medical grade for your injurys ,hope this helps you

right now light out put is week. They are T8 non HO. I am getting only 11,000 lumen. As for Kavin, I have 2 Gro-Lux tubes and 2 4100K for now. I am upgrading to a T5HO 6 lamp in the next few weeks. Also last night before bed I hit the little guys with there first nutrient. I gave them a standard 20/20/20 and gave a half dose. Woke up to them being purple! Pics below:

also when u say mulch, u mean using peat moss? The sand I used is brick sand off of ma job site. I also but 2" of 3/4 crush stone on the bottom of the pails then 1-2" of sand with the soil on top. I wanted perlite but none of the garden centers had it and they won't stock it for another 2-3 weeks. I called around to 5-7 different garden centers. Stupid question but what's "cal mag"?

With regards to lighting, I have to run fluorescents due to heat issues. Will 5000K be enough for veg? I know there are 6500k out there but I can't seem to find them locally. For flower it's 3200's right?

mulch is just anything you lay over the soil to keep weeds from growing (the bad kind lol)and to keep sun out haha we have the same purple plant problem my la woman started doing it to I thought it was magniesium deficiency but I am feeding it plenty of Epsom salt but yeah calcium from calmag (calcium and magneiesium sub nute) is probly are problem I cant afford calmag at the moment but I am about to giving it 1/2 milk and 1/2 water yes its a plant fertilizer but I don't know if the plant will get the calcium it needs. also as for lighting 5000k is plenty 290831
