Originally from Pa. I doubt very much this state will ever go "Green"? Hopeful but it's a "Puritan" state where think blue laws still in effect. 2013 & this crap still exists!!

yes, I think we have blue laws here too, along with some other liquor laws like dry counties and only 3.2 beer in the super markets, gotta buy warm 5.0 and higher beer at the liquor store. but not on Sunday. ;) we might be one of the last states to go any shade of green too. but you never know.

btw, kinda off topic but .. :D in the chart above I called WA and CO purple but .. is it really blue? it is one of those figure ground things? see how it kinda looks reddish as you approach the green border as the neuron specific to that wavelength begins to weaken. may need to update this. okay for my chart the first True Blue State will be either Washington or Colorado this year, as they enact sales or one of the other 48 and also Puerto Rico is turning red with pending legal bill. its going global. :jointsmile:

Attorney general: Feds to weigh marijuana's effect on children

WASHINGTON (AP) - How it affects children will be one factor the Justice Department weighs as it determines how to respond to the legalization of marijuana in Washington state and Colorado, Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress Thursday.

"When it comes to these marijuana initiatives, I think among the kinds of things we will have to consider is the impact on children," along with factors such as violence connected to trafficking and organized crime, Holder told a House Appropriations subcommittee. He commented in response to questions about ballot initiatives legalizing the drug that passed last year.

"We are certainly going to enforce federal law," Holder said.

Marijuana is illegal under federal law, and one congressman pressed Holder to challenge the state initiatives in court. Holder said he hasn't decided what to do.

In December, President Barack Obama said in an ABC interview that the federal government won't go after recreational marijuana use in the two states that have legalized it. When asked if he supported legalization, he responded, "I wouldn't go that far."

Holder reminded the panel of that, and added, "I'm not for it either."

But Rep. Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican, said that the president didn't take a position on the initiatives, and urged the Justice Department to do so.

"Your department could choose to attempt to overturn those laws," said Harris, a physician. That would send a message to America's youth that marijuana is not a safe drug, he added. "Kids need clear messages and I'm afraid we're not sending them one," he said.

Harris pressed Holder on when a decision might come, "because children are dying from drugs. It is a scourge ... can you give me a general idea of when that decision's going to be made?"

Holder would only say, "As quick as we can."

this article is from last month but I just found it thought it was interesting, it shows the DOJ's new narrative and it is inline with the 1,000 ft from school nonsense they are saying right now in No Cal. but also, check out this Andy Harris character. this is what Holder has to deal with. Maryland has a state bill that would legalize adult cannabis use. It would be funny if that passed and then Harris can have his federalies attack his home state. :wtf:

my advice for Holder, tell 'em to fuck off. or .. explain to them that in our system of federalism that each of our states have the Constitutional right to make their own local laws and act as mini laboratories on important issues. i think most people understand this. it only the die hard statists that don't get it, and there really isn't much hope for them. :twocents:

just to clarify, I think that any rules about sales being away from a school is perfectly fine, but from what I've read some of the medical coops in California are being charged with that even though they are nowhere near any schools. that is the 'nonsense' I was referring to.

The money will win this battle, just watch. In the old days it was all about the "dirty filthy hippies" and even though that was never really true, the odd image beat the truth. Fear rules this country of ours and that's the shame.

But, it's changing a lot, and it's changing fast. When did the music at grocery stores switch from "elevator" to "rock and roll?" It's been awhile now, and I'm pretty sure it happened when rock and rollers became grocery store managers. Swear... I was at the DMV yesterday buying license plates and they had the STONES playing as background. Nobody does that Lawrence Welk stuff today.

Yeah, simplified, but things are changing. And you know how kids work. If you don't tell them the truth, they'll learn that you're lying. This isn't to say that the drug-free life is bad. Or good. Or this. Or that. But the truth is always helpful, no? And pot has had the short side of that stick for many decades now due to... you fill in this blank.

yeah it is fun to watch hu? :jointsmile: my entire life I've watched this battle and so many times have thought the tide had shifted only to see it brought back down with a surprise blow from the prohibs, so it ain't over til the fat lady sings i guess.. ;)
