To add to pushits suggestion, maybe allow the general members to have a 'custom title' under their username (rather than settling for the "Registered+" title) - but with a catch of some kind, such as a member would have to be registered for a certain amount of months, rack up a certain number of posts, reputation points, etc.

I do realize that the "catch" can lend itself to the possibility of turbo-posters trying create a bunch of non-productive, contentless posts for the purpose of claiming such privileges, but an implementation of a more spelled-out "no turbo-posting" rule should remedy the problem.

Regarding enhancements to the vbulletin interface that you could allow to the users:

As admin at RHaven we found it very popular to allow the members to customize their profile page and become the moderators of the profile messages that can be left there. Allowing them to create custom backgrounds and have control over what was displayed there gave everyone a sense of home. We were also able to profile well done pages and allow the members a bit of pride for a job well done.

Of course PM's. This is the major beef that people have regarding c.com, that there is no way to make private contact between members. Many smaller boards have sprung up, and RHaven was no exception to this, because we allowed the members this freedom, and the members liked it. I think this was the major reason that many members jumped ship here and went there... well, that and the politics of the day. This of course makes things much more dangerous and it would need to be managed carefully... and of course you would need to make it clear to everyone that nothing is really private from the authorities if they wanted to look.

I also liked many of PainRelief's ideas regarding setting up special sections regarding the medical aspects of cannabis in relation to vets, caregivers/providers and just general health information.

I also managed a very popular archive of the state of legalization in every state, and I had separate forums for each state. This allowed us to center in on each state and region's issues and legal fights... and again it was a popular section of the forum.

Also, I know I say this every year but .. sure its convenient (and somewhat humorous to some us :jointsmile: ) that Canada is under the med state's sub section but it is not a US state. it might be nice to give Canada their own section like the UK has now. :twocents:

Maybe some kind of Mentor/student section. Where new growers can post info on their grow and the old timers can pick and choose alot easier from that(kinda like a sponsor through the grow). I was lucky enough to have some good tips. That's what kept me at canna.com instead of these other forums. Just an idea though. Maybe some incentive for the mentors too. I'm sure it can be hard to waste knowledge on a grow log that only goes half way and is never seen from again. PM's too. Just food for thought.

subcategory. i would say give it its own category, but im afraid it might get overwhelmed with basic grow questions. maybe put it in advanced techniques?

Definitely PM's. You start a conversation in a thread, one thing leads to another, then ooops! Its 'hey guys, I think we're about to go ...... OFF TOPIC!

We need a place for general conversation if we can't PM. (I couldn't find a chat room do we have one? I'm using a cell ph & it won't let me in thoes anyway, tells me, you can't open new window till u close one), maybe a sub forum & call it something like, DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN.....or even, general conversation. Then if we want to expound on something thats becoming 'off topic' we can say, hey, lets take this to xxxx before we end up, you got it....OFF TOPIC!

can you elaborate on the "can't open another window" message? is it from your cell phone or is it a error message from our site?

Ahh babe, it's my cell phone (galaxy s lll). I think it's bacause my memorys nearly maxed out (damned candy crush, etc.) But is there a way I can pm or message thoes on my friend list? So many opportunities for great conversation with other old heads, & come so close to going off topic so many times. If not pm's, I kinda like my idea of the open sub-forum, & I think the name 'the night shift' has a great ring to it. Not trying to work your butt off, I know everybody likes their own ideas. But damned, this is the first forum I've joined where I'm not the oldest one there, & I think those on my friends list would love the hell out of this.

Three things I'd really like to see improved here.

1) Enlarge the maximum size of photos that may be inserted into threads. Yes, photos may be clicked and enlarged but I think the images are too small as they appear in context.

2) Private Messages. Threads get filled up with unrelated questions and answers. Members can't ask each other questions without posting on a thread. I think that this deteriorates good threads and makes interesting threads like grow logs too many pages so members are reluctant to go back and read grow logs.

3) When a member gives a reputation to another member they can't do that again for a considerable amount of time/number of threads, etc. The rep can be used to send a short private message but you may only be able to do this every great once in a while.

Actually Shov, this can pose a problem for some dial-up users (me being among them) who want to view the thread. This morning I recieved a report on my desk and when I proceeded to investigate the post that was reported, the page refused to load which I think had alot to do with the large size and/or ultra-high resolution of the attachments contained in the thread containing that post.
After about 15 minutes or so waiting for the thread to load (yes, 15 minutes or so), my system crashed. Even the report itself took more than 5 minutes to load due to the copy of the "problem post" that was included in the report. :mad:
I had to end up passing the buck to my Staff colleagues to check out the problem post. I certainly was not a happy camper.

I've been there, done that for years. Dial up sucks so bad I didn't get to experience a lot (or any) of video posts. Many sites do limit the size of attachments and I always re size my photos to 'web' dimensions maximum of 800 pixels. I wondered why the quality of images posted were so awful with mostly sizeways camera photos, HPS lighting and out of focus. It doesn't really matter to the effect of the posted page as they are thumbnailed anyway. Any remarks about the other two matters?

As far as I know Shov, the forum PTB are working to enable PMs for the general members, as it is perhaps the most requested improvement so far.

As far as changes to the Rep system, I personally dont see any change to this. The current system is in place mainly because the potentiality for "rep abuse" exists.

But then again if theres a way a member, who would become a victim of rep abuse, can bring the abuse to the attention of the Staff (the PM feature would be a useful tool for this)........

How about a section on how to cure your MM, without using the Glass Jars. I know that everyone seems to think that it is the best way to cure, and it might be, but there are other ways. I have never done mine that way, and no one has ever told me that my weed was losing it's THC or did anyone ever tell me that it ever taste bad. Just a thought. Good luck, and happying growing.
