I want to do my first indoor grow I am getting 2 cheese clones in a week that I am going to put into soil and I dont want anything to big as of now I want to start vegging with cfls then flower with a 250 hps is that a waste of time? Should I go for a 400w instead just want to keep it small and simple but not waste my time or money any views?

this a good example of a 250 watt HPS grow

I thought the same as you when I bought my lights, but 250 should be good for up to 6 plants, although I prefer to has 3 or less because plants will start growing too close to each other and I don't want them to touch. Also, I am kinda anal about getting light onto every single green part, which is a mission to do, even with one plant.
I don't want the plants to get too big as well because too much yield and more stink.. Even though I have a carbon filter, I'm very paranoid about the stink.
How long will you veg for? The more Wattage you get, the bigger the plant and bud, so that's up to you. 2 plants should be fine for 250W though.
Higher wattage for HPS would get those lower buds to produce more though. Up to you.

Don't let the 1K-600 watt crowd fool you, you can get smoke out of a 250. They won't be as pretty, but will still get you there.

Wow thanks for all the replies guys! Ok I have done alot more reading since posting the thread. This is my plan so far I have a small bed side cabinet I have pulled the top draw out to allow more height, painted it white and putting computer fans in tomorrow and I will start a grow log with pictures so you guys can see. I know this will not be enough space in the end this will just be my vegging room which I'll put in a 200w cfl and once they are growing in there I will build my flowering room and put my 250w hps in there. I am going to a grow shop on wednesday to get some more help and I will buy soil and nutes for the clones with should be arriving a week after xmas!

Ok so I have run into a problem I have to keep my first grow to this bedside cabinet :'( its 65cm heigh by 35 cm wide by 35 long what are my options? Im thinking doing one clone in there with a 200w cfl as a 250w hps would be to hot Im sure what do u guys think?

For such a small space.. you may want to consider multiple smaller wattage CFL's.. I would even suggest 4 of the 2ft sunblaster t-5 fixtures mounted vertically in all 4 corners.. that way your plant will get even light all the way up! having one light at the top only will not hit the lower branches in such a small space.. spread the light out and you will have much better luck! Cheers!

Ok I have installed 4x 23w 80% saving cfl cool white box says is equal to a normal 120 w light. The box also says the also says 1400 lm which I'm guessing means lumens so a total of 5600 lumens and my fans are working perfectly not to hot in there at all!
