Hi, Im new to this forum and to the world of weed, I hope i can get some advice here as its making me paranoid and i want to be able to enjoy the experiences, Basically the last weed i got came and it was slightly wet, I got to googling best way to dry weed etc, then found a lot of chat about mould on weed.

With my latest stuff (orange bud) i got on monday, i left it in the zip lock that it came in, then on tuesday took it out and its been out in the open since then.

Is it ok to leave damp weed out in the open to dry without fear of mould growing?

Hope someone can help me out here cuz the weeds calling for me lol :rastasmoke:

Thanks guys

It is a good idea to dry buds outside the bag. Once dry, you should put them into glass jar, and open for a few minutes daily in order to keep the buds from molding. They will only mold though, if the buds were not dry enough in the 1st place.

Thanks for the replys, am I right in thinking that buds wot mould when out in the open, and the reason for puttin them in jars is to help the quality?

Yes, the reason for putting them in the jars is for 'the cure'. The cure is what gives the bag appeal, the good scent, and the smooth smoke. In most cases, the longer you cure the weed, the better it is. The only thing I haven't seen up here so far is that you shouldn't cure in the light, a dry dark cabinet is perfect for curing, just a regular kitchen cabinet works great, open each container for 5-10 minutes a day (not even that long really, you just need an air exchange to make sure the moisture is out). After a few weeks you no longer need to do this, and the shelf life is just short of a year. You can also vacuum seal this in plastic containers (best method) and then freeze, extending the shelf life even more - You CAN use the vacuum sealed bags, but the bag effect of that is mexican schwag, really compressed sad buds, instead of big happy buds.

This is known as the typical 'cure' which most people use for harvest, including most commercial growers. If your doing it for a pure medicinal effect, there are different methods of curing, but I'm not going to get into it right now, most people would call me a moron for what I do to my strong harvests.

low_rdr you got me curious now haha. When you get time, do you mind telling us how you cure? I wont call you a moron haha. I personally just use a hygrometer in the curing jars. Once the humidity in the jars is steady around 60-63% then i take the hygrometer out and store. As long as it stays under about 65% you shouldnt have any problems with mold. Takes all the guess work out of it.

I use a water cure - depending on strain and growth purpose. For my own personal meds (and sometimes the wifes), but never for a patient.

I haven't heard of an ATC or a commercial grower ever using a water cure.

I tried the water cure a couple times. I think the main reason commercial growers dont do it is cause it takes away from bag appeal. That's my assumption anyways. The 2 first things that people notice is looks and smell. From my very limited experience, water cure took away both. It even took away the taste which I personally enjoy. I can see why some people like that and others dont. Everybody has their own preference.

I'll give you a tip

On your last exchange, toss a towel on top of them, and kind of ring the buds out, then use 1/4 fill with natural extracts (ie: pineapple, vanilla, peach, lemon etc) let sit for 3 hours, drain again, then toss directly in a dehydrator

Ever smoke a clove?

Welcome to the THC clove ;) Now you'll see why I roll phat ass blunts

Sorry - Need to make some changes here... You use a 100:1 ratio of water to extract, just 1 little bottle of whatever SINGLE EXTRACT flavor you want to use, to a 1/4 fill of your flush/wash, if your only using a couple of buds in a jar, this will only be a few drops of extract - don't be rough when the buds when you wring them out, be very gentle, and you don't have to squeeze or push hard, your just trying to get the excess out.

As for throwing the buds into a dehydrator, it takes about 3 hours, up to 5 depending on how dense your buds are, then you can toss them in a jar, but they're already cured and smokable :) The longer they sit in the jar, the easier they'll be to smoke, so basically they will lose some flavor, but not potency in the jars (not for awhile at least)
