Is a bong really worth it?

Well, I'm contemplating buying a bong. I may go on a break to lower my tolerance, anywhere from 1 week to 1 month, and I'm thinking of saving up all that weed money to buy a bong, and my question is: is it really worth it?

I'm familiar with bongs, I've smoked out of bongs numerous times over the last couple of years, and they always perform nicely. However, I haven't smoked out of one in a while, and my tolerance has risen significantly in the last few months, so what I'm wondering is whether or not it's really worth it to spend the money. Will it get me higher than my pipe? I don't want to spend a lot of money so I'm looking at cheap bongs, anything from 6 inches to 12 inches tall is good.

One last question, would a shorter bong not perform as well as a larger one, or would I be able to get great hits nonetheless? There's a $10 bong I saw online that's gotten good reviews and is about 6 inches tall. Should I go big or go home?

Bongs are worth it but a small bong isn't. Get one that's at least a foot tall. You get a bigger rip, some small bongs are decent no doubt . Most are crappy and have small bowls though. It's more of a preference thing though. I prefer large glass, I've had allot of homeade bongs and cheap plastic ones.

Bongs are nice, and do hit hard, but wouldn't spend weed money on them. Get your stuff sorted and get a nice one when you can afford to splurge on such things.

A bong is worth it, though a vaporizer is still a better choice. If you stopped smoking for a month like you said then you should have no problem affording a good bong(this depends on how much you smoke).

I myself am saving for a vaporizer as I have lung issues and smoking is not the smartest thing for me.

A bong is so worth it its amazing. It allows for more thc to be taken into your lungs (joints wasting ALOT of thc). It also really cools the smoke making it easier on the throat and removes alot of the nasty things in smoke. Finally you dont have to waste time skinning up, when you can just pack a bowl and go to town!

My Medicali is 18" long, has a 8 arm perculator, plus my mad science addon perculator, I'm using the reducing diffuser, anyway I've got about $650 total into my bong with the bowl and the mad science look to it, and mine fits about 9 full sized ice cubes as well, so after the smoke is diffused it's cooled, honestly, it's the smoothest smoke I've ever had - I'm OCD and hate dirty glass, so I clean it and prepare it to smoke every time its used, I fill my chambers with different blends, this one is lemonade, grenadine, and blue lemonade - I'm a daily smoker, I actually need to smoke in order to perform like a normal human and I'm a huge blunt fan - I get great rips on this, and quite often will toss a roach in just for the enhanced flavor from the bong Here is a pic:

Totally worth it. dont bother with cheap ceramic ones. Get some glass ones. If you want to go cheap get some good looking ones. Also be careful where you buy it. I always tend to look for some nice local USA made and sold websites.

bongs are 100% worth it in my opinion, i would only ever buy a glass bong as they smoke much nicer. i would recommend a black leaf bong

A nice glass on glass bong is nice to have at your home and is much better for you healthwise than say, a blunt of spliff. A step above that would be to get a desk or portable vaporizer and start vaping hash oil and wax.

Only bongs for me. Sometimes hubby will try to pull out the bowl but I'm a snob now. "Big Red", as we affectionately call her, is the only girl for me. Now, I'm new to this forum and, despite over a decade of regular smoking, I have NEVER seen a bong so fancy as was described above! I didn't realize people pimped out their bongs like others do cars! Red is just a simple 12inch glass piece. I feel neglectful now, too, because I never keep her crystal clear. ;)

Water pipes are the best way to smoke your pot. There are basically two health risks from smoking pot and both are from the smoke and not the active chemicals. Smoke has tars/ resins and it has heat. Neither are very good for your lungs. The lungs will expel the tars/ resins over time but heat damage to your lung tissue is forever.

The water serves two purposes. First it helps to filter out some of the tars that are in the smoke. Second it cools the smoke so no heat damage to your lungs.

Vaporizers are supposed to be the best way to go. I bought one, a magic lyte box, or something like that. It's in the junk drawer now. It ran on rechargeable AA batteries. They died out too fast and the vaporizer didn't even work that good. to get a decent hit you had to heat it up so much the vapor was hot.

Without question. I prefer using a one hit bowl. You get the efficiency since you waste no smoke going up in the air, it all goes in your lungs. It is cooler too. But the best part is how stoned you get.
If you want to try without spending huge money you can get a perfectly acceptable bong for $20-$30. Like said above 12" is a good size. For this price you get plastic but so what. It works just as well and you want to try it, right.

Probably not the best but I commonly use an iced tea bottle. I have this pipe/cone piece and stem which I can take apart and use as a bong. I get the stem a burn a hole about 5mm smaller than the stem, insert so it is airtight, if not cover gaps with blutac, place cone piece on stem and put water and it wanted ice. It works well.

hey I've been addicted of a bong for 2 years and since I was I have never touched a bong ago. If you want to buy one I would suggest that you only do it once in a while it trips you if you do it for everyday's use :) but it will get you real high for comparison to a pipe :stoned:

if you are gona buy a bong then buy a glass bong 5 mm :) it cant break :) the cheap bongs aint worth buying trust me i have had allot of bong's in thos 2 years and then i got a 5 mm and it cant break if you break it you must have droped it out from 2 flore or something :) DONT BUY ACRYLIC

Amen brother. I've been pulling bongs for 35 years and used and/or made just about any type bong you can imagine. The smoke doesn't know what kind of material it's being pulled thru. The absolute most beautiful amazing one I've ever seen was plexiglass. It was four feet tall and two and a half feet square.

Get a cheapy, I love my bong but I blow thru bud quite rapidly with it. Rolling a joint is hard work when ur ripped but packin ol bessy up is a breeze so another bowl is always easy. If you cant afford buying a bong then ur not going to be able to use the damn thing.

ACRYLIC is total waist of money and they are really unhealthy to smoke out of . becors they get hot and makes toxic gasses. me and my friends was smoking 1 night we was 4 or 5 and 1 of my mate had buy a acrylic bong a big peace it smoked good at the first 4 or 6 heads on it and then 1 of my friends got this bad fealing we was just thinking he had to mutch to smoke so we just smoked on and then after 2-3 heads more and 1 more was fealling realy bad like really bad he did say he's lungs hurt and we was kinda getting woride becores we have the same dealer all :) and know the smoke was the bedst in town and we was 3 left on the bong the other 2 was getting worst and worst we smoked like 6 heads more and then sudently my friend past out we was tripping and i dident know what was up until i did take a look at the bong peace the down stream are made out of alu and the head to and they have this rubber around it to make it air tight. the acrylic and i realiced we was smoking rubber . the rubber melts after a good sesh and my friends was in real danger and we jumped in the car and drove to the hospital with my friend that past out and they all nedet to eat this nasty shit I think it was coal it was some black shit and they was sick in some days . i will never recoment a acrylic peace for smoking ever . this things are deadly if you do not understand it...... they did think we was in a home with a fire in on the hospital. and we told them that we had smoked out of this bong and they just started working fast when we told them that. . !NEVER BUY THIS SHIT IT WILL GET YOU KILLED MAN! Bongs are definitely worth it but they're also expensive as shit. A couple of sites online do list some of the cheaper ones you can find online, especially if you've never owned one before. I will say this: Always go with glass bongs (http://www.cheapbongs-for-sale.com/). The other shit like acrylic ain't worth your time. :stoned:

That right there is possibly one of the sweetest bongs i've ever laid eyes on, but may i ask being someone that hasn't really used bongs much what is with the coloured fluid in it and how do you clean it properly when it's that large o_O@?

Smoking a bong is not really great, vaping a bong is great.
All you need are 3 pipescreens.
Put some weed in your bowl and put 3 pipescreens above the weed.
When you smoke it now, it gets vaped before it really starts to burn.
Much more thc and much less condensate.
When it starts to burn, hold the flame higher or place the screens higher.

Only better than this is bong vaping with a hot air gun.
All you need is a hot air gun with a temperature around 250 degrees and a bong bowl, that is big enough to place the gun on or in it.
Lay 1 pipescreen on the weed and start inhalin before the gun is placed on the bowl ( or the screens could fly away ).

I have to agree with the other posters. A bong is completely worth it, but your price level is too low. I have never spent less than $50 to buy a full-sized bong, and even my bubbler cost over $50.

I would suggest you set your budget closer to $75 or higher to get a high quality glass bong that you will enjoy for years. My first purchase is still my number one bong and gets used regularly, even though it is several years old.
