View Full Version : Weed just isn't what it used to be

Alright, well I'm new here and figured I'd ask a question that's been troubling me for a while now.
I've been smoking pot for about 3 years now. When I first started it was whenever I would get together with my friends, which would be like once or twice a week. After about a year we started meeting more frequently and smoking more frequently too (like 3 or 4 times a week). About five months ago I got my own pipe and ever since then I've been smoking almost every day, any chance I get really.
Anyway, what I've noticed over the last year or so is that getting high just isn't what it used to be. When I first started smoking I had some really intense, psychedelic highs. I would almost always have some level of CEV's, and for lack of a better way to describe it, I just FELT a lot more back then, and when I would get stoned I'd be really fucking baked, like a stereotypical stoned guy, but now, well, I just get high if you know what I mean. My point is that I just haven't been feeling any of the mild trippiness and altered state of perception which made me fall in love with weed in the first place, it just makes me feel good now.
Is this something that other stoners out there experience? And is there a way to bring back the really intense highs that I loved? If so, what causes this diminishing of the effects of weed? I assume tolerance is to blame, as I've been smoking a lot lately, sometimes as much as 4 or 5 grams a week (although I usually can't afford more than 2 or 3). So, if the answer is a tolerance break, my question is how long should I abstain from smoking and how can I smoke frequently after the break without rapidly increasing my tolerance again.
Thanks.

Lately I've been smoking some really good bud due to finding new connections, stuff like Blue Dream, Green Crack, Train Wreck, and some kind of kush (I'm not sure what). That's basically what the last 2-3 weeks of my bud has consisted of, and I've definitely been feeling the extra effects, but I'm still not getting as high as I'd like to. Something that occurred to me might be that I'm simply not smoking enough. Usually I smoke a bowl, sometimes two to myself in a sesh. I usually don't feel too compelled to smoke more than that, and plus I usually try to save weed for later.

Trying other strains can help but this is just a natural process of your body building up tolerance to cannabis, just like the body does with other substances. Usually the best bet is to just abstain for a few weeks and then hit it again. If you use anything that feels good regularly it eventaully loses its appeal. Its also why you don't see hardly any excessive abuse of cannabis among people because eventually the effects just become too normal feeling and lose there appeal. Its also why all drugs should be legalized. Initially they are appealling because they are illegal or taboo which just makes them more appealling at first. Then you lose interest in them when they become legalized.

Hi all, been a long time since I've stopped by...Well to answer the posters question scientifically, its because you are now a regular smoker. The endorphins in your brain that the cannaboids effect have been depleted due to daily use. If you want the original "buzz" that you once obtained, take a break from using. This will allow your brain time to build back up the endorphins. Take a 60 day break and then smoke some exotic..You will notice a bigggggg difference!!!

Okay, so it seems there's a consensus that this is the result of tolerance.
Now, my next question is after I take a break, is there a way to smoke pretty much daily while maintaining a reasonable tolerance? Would smoking in lower quantities keep my tolerance in check, or is there anything like exercise I can do to help keep my tolerance low? Or is it inherently hopeless to want to smoke everyday and still get great intense highs?
Also, if I were to take a week or two off, would my tolerance just rapidly build itself back up and render my tolerance break pointless?

Often, I wonder, IF...
The reason you are so drawn to this and no longer can get "High" has more to do with, finally: Obtaining a therapeutic level in your system for whatever you are treating.
As suggested, switch around. But stick to one strain..indica for a bit and then flip over to sativa. See if that makes any difference.
I find, by abstaining for a day, I get a better high the next, if a high is what I am looking for.. Generally, I abstain for social reasons, as opposed to use for it.
If your condition allows you to stop for awhile, do it. Try it, as long as you can. When you re-start, reduce. I've taken breaks for as long as several months..With my medical problems, the high isn't so much fun anymore. If you enjoy that..I don't see any choice, except "taking a break" as stated. pr

I can relate to the OP, as probably most people here can. My body simply built up a tolerance for weed, so I stopped for awhile. Now I don't get high as often and I smoke smaller amounts of weed, but the weed is great. I don't know what kind it is, but it rocks!
So my suggestion to the OP is to not smoke so often and so much during one session. Also get really strong weed, as others have suggested, and enjoy the buzz. I also find that a glass of wine together with the weed enhances the effects...

You'll always build up tolerance. Smoke less and it just takes longer is all. Its just the nature of any substance you use. I get tired of cheetos once in a while too.lol Even got burned out on coffee.
And changing strains once in a while can help too. Switch between some indicas and sativas every couple of weeks.
