Hi all

I'm looking for some advice from experienced growers with regards to the size of light, heat generated and the right exhaust fan to deal with that heat in a closet grow.

Ok let me give you the grow breakdown and info first.

Clost floor square feet equals 4.59 square feet or 1.39 square meters.
Height is 198cm or 6.49 feet - plants will hit the light anything above 178cm

I'm vegging in a box i built with 9000 lumens cfl, going well, so the closet area is going to be used just for flowering and possible final stages of veg)

Initially i thought a 400 watt hps sunmaster would be ideal for flowering at maximum yield in that space. But after reading up about par watts and lumens and what the plant needs for optimum growth i realise that i might be wrong for the grow dimensions i have.

Over 5000 lumens sq. ft./53750 lumens sq. m. = Optimal growth. Dense growth in all stages. (rough rider thread 2007) http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-lighting/140735-answers-about-cfl-hps-how-much-light.html - is this correct ? homepage for sunmaster is very confusing with their 400 watt hps lumen outputs as they seem to be a lot lower (35000) then the 55000 lumen that grow shops seem to quote.

Ok so this essentially is the info i'm looking for. I'm going to be dropping money on this setup and want to do it right. The extraction fan i'm looking at is the TD Silent 500/150 Inline Fan - Volume flow: 580 / 430 m3/h - id like to know if it could handle heat build up from a 600 watt hps sunmaster in that small space or is it light overkill - am i better off with the 400 watt hps or 400/600 metal halide which i believe produces more par watts that the plant can actually use in photosynthesis, yet most swear by hps for flower ??? It can be very confusing.

The bulb will be in a pebble arc hood un-cooled. I will have 2 or 3 small computer fans moving air about in the closet.

I'm looking at 4 plants in a organic soil grow with single cut to bush and LST training. Bio Bizz nutrient feeding scheme throughout.

If someone could confirm on veg height before going into flower sos i dont end up hitting the light that would be great :) 90cm veg = 5 foot plants end of flowering, plants will hit the light anything above 178cm or 5.8ft.

I would like to order final bits and pieces for grow and your comments will help to guide me on a super grow vs average grow. If there is any more info needed please ask. thanks a mill.

Much love to the community

Peace

Thanks, I have seen his vids - very informative, the main thing i'm looking for is someone who knows the calculation for heat build up vs extraction in the specific measurements provided.

After much reading and searching of forums I think a 600watt hps would be overkill for a grow room that size, so I will go with the 400 watt hps for flowering and the same fan for exhaust (can always run it a bit slower) , the plant is loving the small veg box with two 85watt cfl's and a air purifier, she's really taking off, hope to clone soon, will post some pics.

So how did your harvest go? I have pretty much the same set up as yours. I've been having heat issues with my 2'W x 2'L x 4'H. I use a 400switchable ballast with both 400w metal halide for veg and 400w HPS. I have the 4" S&P Inline silent fan and that thing wasn't pulling air enough so I actually have ordered a 6" with a square filter and returning the 4". I hope this solves the heat issue.

I was up to 100-104 with my 4" fan with a can filter. When I detatched the carbon filter, the temp went down to mid 80's which made me decide to upgrade my silent fan to 6".

I'm curious how yours turned out since I can relate to you. Any updates would be awesome. Thanks!
