I am just after some views here...i have suffered with back pain (nerve root) for 4-5 years, i have been on Diazapam/baclofen for most of this time to help ease the pain but it just returns and cannabis has been mentioned as a possible pain reliever. I don't particularly want to get high so any vies on the following (from experience) would be greatly appreciated.
1) if you put a small amout in food does it still give a high
2) does it work as a pain reliever (and how)
3) what sort do you need...if there are different brands/types
...thanks for any replies as you can see i am a complete novice and i am not really looking for a high but just the pain relief.

Hey dude, as I have said many times before on these boards the weed wont stop the pain, it'll just make you forget about the pain! When first smoked Cannabis is more of a bodily high, but after a while it turns more pshycological and will make you forget about the fact your back hurts.
Your best off smoking Green rather than any sort of solid/hashish! The most effective way to reep the rewards without the damage and fact you "dont particularly want to get high", would be to vaporise although you WILL BE HIGH, I'm not actually sure you can take weed without getting a high. As eating it gets you the most baked!
Good luck in your next quest bruv!

http://www.letfreedomgrow.com/ any medical cannibis ?s can be answered at the link in this post cannibis wont cure anything but it will make dealing with the problem easier and regardless of what you may have been told in the past it is FAR SAFER than Diazapam or any other of the big pharma treatments aval.

not true.. sativas are actually known to relieve body pains, indicas are the ones that will go straight to your head ;) i'd recommend trying trainwreck, ak-47, or some haze for back pain. as far as edibles go, you can basically cook anything you like with cannabis (from lollypops to pasta sause), and you WILL feel it, and it WILL be mostly a body high. edibles are actually very popular in cali dispenseries..

Try it , it works better then anything else on earth for pain. It is pot so it doesn't work like other pain killers that your doctor may have given you. It sounds like this is your first time. Go for it!

If you don't want the high, then mj's not the kind of pain killer you are looking for. I wouldn't reccomend it for helping you out at work, or anything like that... but if you smoke a joint after work while you watch tv, your pain will definately be gone, or at least forgotten. Marijuana is a safe and natual remmedy for almost anything, I think. It's an amazing experience for your mind.
You say you don't want the high. I say the high is what makes the pain go away. If you've never been high before then you're in for an interesting experience. I say that because you can't really accurately imagine what being high is like until you are there. Anyone agree?
Let us know what you decide and how it goes.

You are taking Valium and a muscle relaxer for MS??? Neither of these IMO help much for back pain. I have chronic pain and I have been prescribed Flexerill and Vicodin. Since the VA doesn't want me addicted they have me trying Lodine now. Ultimately it's up to you but a safe natural remedy for pain may be the ticket. I have done a lot of research regarding MJ and there has never been an overdose and it has great promise for pain relief.

Lemme tell ya bout back troubles...
Grade 3 spodylesthesis (sp?), 4 ruptures, 7 tears, 5 compression fractures, and permanant nerve impingement affecting my legs also. Basically my back hurts an awful lot, and on occasions when it does not hurt....my damned legs hurt!
List of meds 26 months ago; Soma, Oxycontin, Dilaudid, Lexapro, Duragesic patches(75mcg), Clonipin, Vicodin, and numerous other anti-inflamatory agents. Trouble was, I did not care if I hurt or not nor could I eat eaither.
Bubblegum, White Rhino, and Sk1 are all I take today. So yes it does help, albiet the pain is not gone but tolerable and I can function rather than suck air on my couch.
I had to make a call on whether to continue all that and lay up the rest of my life or try something new. For me, it works quite well and I eat quite well again to boot. I got my life back, and if you have chronic pain...that is what it is all about....getting your life back.
Another thing here, I have found I don't need to get high to break the pain. Although I sometimes end up higher en heck late in the day....a tug on the pipe here and there works wonders and lets me function...ya should see my garden...a real outdoors gem! It has not the single MJ plant either...hehe!

I have 3 injuries, one to my right-lower back, one on a vertebrae in my upper back, one in my neck from an asshole chiropractor who adjusted it and fucked it up.
Lower back: I find it doesn't do much other than help me forget, mainly because it's so spread out.
Upper back: reduces inflamation to the vertebrae significantly, often eliminates pain entirely.
neck: usually eliminates pain entirely. also, the injury caused nerve damage in my neck which causes burning and needles to go down my shoulders and arms. this goes away 100% when I'm high, within minutes of smoking (about 3 minute into being stoned).
