I switched from 500w of 2700k CFL to 250w of HPS earlier this year and I thought it was about time I posted up some pics of how things are going.

You can't really see the 2 on the right properly but they are...

Right Front 3.5 weeks old.
Right Back 2 weeks old.

Hey,

Looking good there dude !!! Very nice buds !!

Do you think the 250w of HPS is better than the 500w of CFL ?

Would you not think of adding the 500w of CFL with the HPS for the final few weeks of bloom ? I think you would get a fine boost on bud ! :)

Well done, take care

Yes, very much so. I get around the same yield for half the electricity cost. Also, under CFL the trichs took forever to amber and the plants would take at least 9 weeks. Under HPS they are done in 8.

I am at my temperature limit, I cannot add any more light without a major system change. If I did add more, it would not be CFL. I used CFL's for flower for 2 years, I got great results, but HPS definitely has the edge in most scenarios imo.

Interesting to know...

I understand your issue with heat/humidity with adding the 500w of CFL. It could be difficult to vent all of that. Those CL give off a surprising amount of heat.

I use 260w of CFL and 190W of LED and it is at the threshold of heat right now. It stays at a constant 29C, 84F.

I also had the same issues with the trichs. Under LED they take forever, even though my LED has UV an IR blubs. I put it down to the lack of UV light from the tight bandwidth of the LED.

I spoke to some other LED growers and they agree. I went from 80w of CFL (2700k) to 360w so I think I should be in for a better yield this time round.

Running HPS and LED might be an interesting combo too... Hmm... You have me thinking about it now :) Only thing is, the LED won't tolerate high humidity created by the HPS...

The circuitry would be fried from the condensation... When the lights go out it could be a big issue as the LED fans stop running. At the moment I get zero condensation in my tent.

Thanks for the info. I'll have a think about it...

Take Care
