Do you harvest even if the plants are still producing a lot of new calyxes?
Plants are 8 weeks and 3 days in flowering. white widow and THC bomb

Thanks

You harvest when the trichomes are a certain colour.

The THC you are looking for in in the trichomes. Looking at the colour of the pistils is a mistake many new growers make.

You need to get yourself a 60x jewellers microscope. I got mine for $3 on eBay. I have since bought a 400x USB microscope.

Trichomes generally have 3 different colourations you need to know about. Clear, milky and amber.

When the trichomes are all clear it is too early to harvest. When they turn mostly milky the THC level is at its peak. when most are amber the THC naturally breaks down into CBD.

When the trichomes are mostly milky harvesting will give your weed a more heady, energetic effect. If you leave the plants go mostly amber you will get a heavy, body high.. couchlock.

A lot of growers look for the middle ground between milky and amber.

Here are some random pictures from my microscope. The weed here was old and bagged so most of the trichomes are broken. But you can find lots of info on trichomes and harvesting here.

"when most are amber the THC naturally breaks down into CBD."

That was the accepted theory for a long time.
Until the chemists got it sorted.

As it turns out, THC and CBD have the same precursor but they do not convert one to the other.
I really wish they did.

Thank you for replying and I'm directing this question to WeeZard because this is part of his signature "Plants do things for a reason..they don't just decide one day to get root rot or act funny. - Weedhound" But mainly because of his many posts.

Is there such thing as self induced leaf necrosis in cannabis?
Can a mature plant produce necrosis-ed leaves due to root bound? Say a 10 week veggied plants in 5gl buckets.
Also what would be the ideal canopy area/foot print for these plants.
Many thanks

Well, it's more often grower induced. :)

That's just one of the symptoms of a rootbound plant.
After 10 weeks the chemistry becomes almost un-controllable.
The soil salts up and all attempts to balance PH only exacerbate the condition.

If you have the headroom, you might try stacking.
Prepare a bucket of fresh, moist, medium.
Drill honkin' big holes in the bottom of the existing buckets, and stack them.
The existing damage will not repair, of course, but the new growth should pretty up.

Also what would be the ideal canopy area/foot print for these plants."

Not sure I can help you there.
Generally, I play it by ear.
The question has many variables and I don't know from ideal.
I jus' know from "good enough".
An' sometimes, half-assed" is more than good enough.

I'm sure there's someone here that can give you a mo' betta answer.
Try re-phrasing the question.

Aloha,
Weeze.
