Dimmable ballast questions

I have a 600w dimmable HID ballast for my MH & HPS bulbs... It can be switched to 50%, 75%, & 100%.

Does this mean the wattage output will increase/decrease?

Or does it just increase/decrease the light output (lumens)?

Decreasing wattage decreases bulb output. Volts X Amps= Watts. If you reduce any of the three they effect the other 2. So if you run it at 50% you use 50% less electricity and less heat. Be sure to use a 600 watt bulb in it. If you use a lower watt bulb and turn it up to 100% it could blow and cause a fire.
