Just getting back into it and have in the past used buckets and ebb/flow system. I bought the books West Coast Masters and I'm going to give SGROG a try, I wanted to grow less plants with bigger yields, etc..

The first questions I have is with my bucket and halo setup I have what looks like green alge and was just wondering if this is an issue or not? I have the water pumps and T5 lights running 24/7 and have a fan on them also. I have 2 plants (Sour Kush/Headband) going and they are in early veg stag. :thumbsup:

Sweet done that system before and your Pryor one its all fun.....
my advice would be;
one lower temp and remove res from light so it dont grow,
cover tops of bucket system also,
but first take top 2in of rocks and clean,
with Styrofoam plate (throw away no paper style) make slit hole in center for support and lay on top of ring may take a couple time to get right then get white poly and do same covering outwards another foot make slits on side and drape to cover.hope it helps, they make rockwool covers now days when i use to lay out poly and cut slits for plant and waterlines.

an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure.......

Trying out my new SGROG technique but ran into an issue. Lost one plant already and now the second one is going. Notice the narrow stem, its like getting pinch off in the middle. The plant I lost got so top heavy it just bent over from the pinch off area in the middle of the stem.

Any ideas on what is causing this or what I am doing wrong??

Is it from my previous trimming and some bad mojo got into the stem from trimming??

I hate to say it, But ya. The weaker part of the stem is most likely due to the trimming you did. Trimming of the large fan leafs reduces the amount of energy needed to produce a large and healthy stem. If the last plant wasn't completely broken apart, the bend would have been fine. It would of LST'd itself.. lol. In the future do NOT trim any full leafs. Try trimming fingers in order to allow light to get to the lower branches. Just keep in mind a strong plant starts with, and needs a LOT of energy/sun/light. And of course its dark time to go thru photosynthesis. Its during the night hours that the plant does its growing. You'll notice it in the morning when the light comes on.

Good luck, Keep us informed

PS. If you are still running the pumps 24/7, get a timer and run it for 15 min every 2 to 4 hours. She looks over watered. And 1 other thing. You need to get something to cover your hydroton, the algae is caused by light. If you can find something to reduce the amount of light reaching your medium. You'll reduce algae growth. Try an old butter tub lid or cut a black trash bag and put it over the hydroton.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I did just go get the white covers for the hydroton and my hydro store so that is done and yes I will put timmers on them like you said just had halo going 24/7. As far as the trimming goes the book I was reading said to trim (bottom 2 branches) once the plant had a total of 6 branches. I did that and also topped the top to just end up with 4 branches that then SCROG out from there. Maybe I trimmed the bottom 2 too late and that is what caused the pinch on the two plants. I have other younger plants going as back up just very frustrated in losing the time I had invested, live and learn I guess. I will give update pics on the new venture of mine. Thanks again for the help :)
