I thought I should ask a question about deliver of concentrates by methods not requiring inhaling. Eating concentrates takes up to 60 minutes to start and lasts many hours making dosage difficult. Delivery by skin to the blood stream requires specialized carrier molecules like DMSO which make me nervous, so that leaves mucus membranes, most acceptable by insertion into the cheek or behind the lip, or under the tongue. I know this can be done by use of alcohol as a carrier, but that leads to alcohol intoxication and burns, both of which make it unacceptable as the medicine I want. I want something that can be taken without lung problems but works as quickly (for easy dose control) as smoking. I am also looking for one that does not "waste" medicine, the other reason I avoid the edible delivery which takes 5 to 10 times as much for similar result. Ideally the concentrate from 1 gram of bud added to the carrier and placed between the lips and gums would give you the same or very similar results as smoking a medium size joint. Using the gums should give first effects in just 30-60 seconds and last about 2 hours. When combined with edibles this shows promise for controlled dosage all day.
My current problem is I do not know how to formulate such a medical product without alcohol. Does anyone know what other things will carry cannabinoids across the mucus membranes into the blood stream?
