Throw some seeds in soil and hope for the best

I don't really have the time or energy to devote to a full on growing operation. Not to mention I'd rather not raise any red flags with the roommate over an incredibly high power bill. Can I just throw some seeds in some soil, put it by the window and get smokable herbs?

Main questions: What seeds should I use for this?

When should I sex the plants?

Will I actually be able to smoke the product?

The strain is not that important it grows easily. If you just want some smoke it will work. George Carlin once said the best weed he ever smoked was called Toledo window box. It does take a little more time and care to grow really good weed.
