Hey all! This is my first post because, thankfully, this is a great and informative forum and I can't say ive ever really needed to ask anything (and I'm super shy on the Internet). Tonight I decided that my experience requires additional input and I hope you guys can help.
I've been smoking steadily for ten years now. A year ago I was diagnosed with a condition called gastroparesis and that pretty much means my stomach is paralyzed. Herb has been my miracle drug and my best friend with this condition as it has allowed me to avoid being fitted with a feeding tube. Tonight, however, it felt like my best friend slept with my husband and stabbed me in the back repeatedly. Figuratively, of course. Literally, tonight I smoked what I was told was jack herer. After about fifteen minutes I began to experience a hot sensation on my face and chest, my hands and feet got cold and sweaty and my bp shot up to 139/110. It felt like my insides were overstimulated and I frequented the bathroom quite a bit. My heart was racing and I just felt like I wanted to die. This lasted for around two hours and eventually petered off to feeling slightly dizzy and almost hungover. Now I'm just exhausted and terrified after this experience.. I'm unsure of what exactly happened and I'm hoping someone here could offer some insight. Thank you for your time and attention!

Sounds like you may have had a reaction to this variety of herb, but more likely this herb didn't get flushed well enough before harvest and had some nitrates left over in it. Some folk are very sensitive and it doesn't take very much when smoking. If your herb didn't burn smooth leaving only gray ash with no snap crackle or pop, still has some fert in it. Let us pray this is a one time thing, MMJ is truely a miracle for me too, hope this helps.

Thank you for your input williboy.. Unfortunately this has been a build up sort of effect. The last couple of times it was minor but has steadily gotten worse. I can't say I noticed any snap, crackle or pop with it but I do grind it well and bong rip it so I don't tend to get that when I smoke. This is just so bizarre that I'm not really sure what to think of it.. :/

:rastasmoke:Hi astinele, Don't be alarmed, pot has been known to raise a pulse a time or two-even though you did not mention your pulse, it is one of the side-effects. Generally, not the blood pressure so much! If I am correct, and I stand to be corrected, I believe Jack Herer is a sativa and perhaps you need to cruise into some more "Indica" Dominate strain. Don't really know your age, but after 10 years, your body is simply a bit older now and may be why you have started getting this over a period of time. Not to mention your disease.

It would appear that with that disease and these symptoms, you may want to get your heart and b/p checked by your Doc. You just wanna be sure that is all O.K.! Once, you get that confirmation, it is most likely, expecting all to be fine. You may be allowing your brain to talk you into it. Knowing this slowly started over time, you maybe anticipating this and going into a panic like attack. If someone were sleeping with your husband, you'd give her the 'boot' (and maybe him too), and it may end up you need to talk yourself out of this and 'boot' it out of your head!

I would like to suggest you get a good physical. You may have, with your diagnoses. Cover your base's.

Also, suggest you grow your own or get a different dispensary. It may have something to do with the time of harvest and curing. It is hard to know.

However, you may want to try medibles to see if you can 'digest' the medicine. It is a much smoother type of feeling. I notice that when I toke, I feel some effects immediately. However, about 20-30 minutes later is when I feel the 'peek' of my medication working. You may want to start waiting before the second toke and then proceed, after waiting for full effect. Maybe you are just getting a bit too much more than you need! May try 'tincture' subling, as well.

The only way to be sure is: Switch to Indica Dominant or medibles and get yourself a good physical and include the heart. Let your Doc know your B/P has been 'elevated' on occasion. The side effects you are mentioning usually are more true with some types of pain prescription pills or anxiety/panic attack, which some develop over time. If, that is the case, you can control that and monitor your thinking. And always remember, no one person has ever died of marijuana and this won't kill you. Good Luck to you and Hope this helps! Check back here and let us know what is going on? :rasta: pr

I think painretreat nailed it on the head there. It could be that you built yourself up for this fall. A self-fulling prophesy. Nice post Painretreat.
And the point about growing for yourself is not a bad idea. You can choose what you want to put into the plants to avoid any dangerous chemicals.

I grow using 100% organic fertilisers. Bat guano, worm casting, seaweed and tomato fert, seaweed soil conditioner and a good mix of soil.
Technically, I cannot burn my plants and I dont really need to flush when I'm done. But I will anyway. My plants have no signs of deficiencies at all so far in week 6 - 7 of bloom. And they are monsters !

You can check out my grow, documented from day 1, on this site. "Indoor growing" - "testing the Pro-Grow 260 LED"

If you decide to grow everything you need to begin is in there. Hope this helps.

i have come to experience that sometimes smoking, its all state of mind, and sometimes you get pain attacks or side effects form the bud itself. if it has been going for a while i would stop smoking or get my bud from somewhere else. growing is the best, but that takes work. i have had the same thing happen to me and i realized it was my frame of mind or it was bunk bud, sorry.

Hey all. I appreciate everyone's feedback on this. I feel it's only fair to fill in some of the blanks. I do have heart problems that I take medicine for (a lot is wrong with me physically), but it's stable at this point. Even though I'm a decade into my very regular smoking, I'm only in my mid-twenties, so I hope I'm not getting too old! I'm going to lean towards I being something to do with the herb itself because I've been smoking far too long to send myself into a panic attack. And plus, my husband was also smoking with me and experienced the same issues as me. Now, mind you all, we only smoked two hits. I was even high when I was experiencing these side effects and this is definitely not one hit wonderweed. :( I've been to Amsterdam and I explored many different varieties, both sativa and indica and hybrid, and I've never had anything like this happen before. What chemicals could we be reacting to in the grow process? I know nitrate was mentioned but I couldn't find much about how it would affect a person.

:jointsmile:Well, it seems astinele, you've answered your own question! Most likely it is the grower and not you or your husband! I shy to ask if you are in a legal state. Regardless, get your bud elsewhere or start growing! Try a vape.

Again, I would suggest medibles, which you can make yourself. I personally make my own 'brownies.' I never try to get so much I am that high. But, others have reported they get really wasted on theirs. It is a control factor. Just like growing. You can control the results the more you do yourself!

It sounds like you need a good hobby and the benefit of growing will amaze you! Good Luck! try getting your bud from elsewhere and let us know how that works?:rasta:pr

Just a quick update on what's been going on.. Sadly, I'm not in an area where I could grow legally (though because I'm trapped at home, on disability, I could definitely get a lot of gratification from raising some pretty green babies). I'm beginning to wonder if there's more happening than just my source being untrustworthy. I also has hashimoto's and have been taking synthroid for it, though three weeks ago I changed how I was taking my med and it could be that my medicine has switched me to having med-induced hyperthyroidism. That on top of taking a vasoconstrictor, midodrine, could be the perfect storm for almost killing me when I do smoke. I've been struggling to find consistent information on herb's effect on hyperthyroidism. I've had a ton of blood work done and will hopefully have a real answer as to what's happening when I get high. All I know is that herb has been my miracle drug and I'm ready to sacrifice any medicine in order to continue my preferred medication. If anyone has any input on these drugs interacting with my friendly, green drug please let me know. <3!

:(Sorry we aren't allowed to discuss meds here. If your husband felt the same symptoms you did, it was definitely the weed you got. You can grow in a closet. There are many threads here on secret grows! I would do anything I could to control the variables. I am just chatting to bury the post of a medication now. Cause they nuke it spank your hand or both. Just the rules, sorry!:rasta: pr

isn't it the middle of the night there! Insomnia?

There are, sadly, too many variables of could-be, maybe, etc. for me to get a handle on things. It's a shame that meds can't be discussed seeing as interactions with herb aren't studied and the only way to figure out what does affect is patient experience. Alas, I guess I'm just out of luck... And yeah, I'm having trouble sleeping without having my smoking buddy to quell my body's crazy. My husband experiencing similar symptoms could be a sign of the weed being to blame, but my degree in psych has taught me that the brain can convince a person's body of doing and experiencing a lot of things. When I get my bloodwork results I'll post a follow up to this because I don't feel comfortable ever poo-pooing weed in any way. It means too much to me to allow misinformation on the subject for anyone in the future to wrongly refer to. Forgive my ramblings, I'm gonna crawl back into my hole now.
