I've been a smoker for around 15 years (showin my age) and grew for a couple of years several years back. Growing is probably my favorite hobby of all time. I love just the process of bringing the plants into the world, nurturing them and helping them thrive. Cannabis is just beautiful to me when it's growing, even in veg before it flowers. Anyway, I'm tired of paying a lot for subpar overpriced green. Here in Austin it ain't like Cali shit's expensive here for a heavy smoker with a high tolerance. The stuff I grew when I was growing was the best tasting (I grow 100% organic for several reasons), most potent weed (other than one really awesome bag I got from florida one time with the most sugar i've ever seen on bud) ever, and I loved ever minute of it, even trimming (fingerhash is the bomb). So I'm ready to grow some new babies, stealth style. Previously I did a closet grow with a 600w hps in a 4x4 area. Some of my favorite plants I grew before were Apollo 11 (probably my favorite for the cerebral inspirational high), white widow, matanuska tundra, super silver haze, medicine man, blueberry, ak-47. Think a few others that apparently got me so stoned I don't even remember the strain names.
So being in Texas, no dispensaries of course and no clones -- although I might be getting a cali blueberry clone from my friend when he comes to visit in march. I've ordered some Apollo 18 bx1 and genius x deep chunk seeds I'm looking forward to sprouting when they come in. I need to quickly make a decision whether to go with the old standard of hid lighting or try out LEDs. What is the general consensus on LED lighting systems? Since I'm doing a cabinet grow they're really appealing for their lack of heat and quieter fans, but i don't want to get stuck with an expensive light that grows air buds either.
So I'm here to get up to date on my skillset and remember some things I forgot... i'm sure i'll start a grow thread since i loves me some cannabis pics and documenting what i'm doing. Also looking to figure out which strains to go for next. I've got limited space, so I don't have the grow space to try a lot of different strains. Like I said, I have a pretty high tolerance even though i've cut back a bit lately. Looking for that magical strain that's going to blow through my tolerance and deliver that OLD SCHOOL early days high I just rarely ever get anymore. I've heard og kush is great for that but where to get the real genetics? i'd like to find a great indica dominant mother for a body/pain relief high. I really enjoyed white widow and medicine man they were pretty potent but not legendary (i think my white widow genetics were f2s so may not have been original genetics or just grown enough for that perfect keeper -- i think that shit from florida was white widow but not sure). Blueberry was a good buzz but not quite as potent as I'd like. I had some OG kush hash from a dispensary when i went to cali last year, but even that i built up a bit of a tolerance to after a while -- at least compared to the first few days i smoked it! it was the bomb til the tolerance built, after that it was just a good high.
Anyway that's my story... as for my backstory, i'm an IT guy. I'm sure most people at work would be blown away about the level of potsmoking I do, considering I am one of their best people. I'm one of those guys you never peg for the stoner type but I'm the biggest stoner of anybody I know. Been pulled over by cops with weed in the car several times (a QP going 94 in a 70 zone after an all night blowout an no shower -- no problem?? :) ). I don't do crazy shit like that anymore -- i've tightened up my game a lot since those days ;) Now I just transport lbs and do the speed limit. Creating my reality through force of will. Pondering a move to cali or colorado. I have family in colorado but it's so damn cold... and my best friends live here so hard to leave. Then again I got friends in cali too. We'll see.
