I just ordered a 5 x 5 x 6 1/2 grow tent online and should be receiving it next week sometimes,,At one time many years ago I had an indoor grow op with over 300 plants in it at all times,I was growing for quantity back then and had no idea how to grow them for the best strains, but it kind of got smelly and I had to find a better place to continue with my hobby,,but that was 15 years ago,,Now I have cancer and was issued an MMAR card from Health Canada back in August, now I want to grow my own strains and I want to do it the right way...
The question I have is with the size of tent I ordered, would a 1000 wts do the trick? Will it throw off to much heat in the room? Should i use a 600 watter instead, I have a carbon filter also that will direct the air straight outside the house,,
Right now the 3 plants I have growing are standing about 3 1/2 feet tall 2 Northern Lights and 1 white Widow, when I get the tent hopefully next week I'll clone these 3 plants and flower them in the tent while I have the clones growing under a 4 fluorescent bulbs till the others bud then i will do the same to these clones once ready to flower,,what are your thoughts on the lighting??
Thanks:rasta:

I would say good choice as long as the reflector you use is an enclosed fixture. Even then with the tent.. You'll need to have the exhaust running the whole time the lights are on. It would make better use of your space and effort,to go with a 600 watter. In the same enclosed hood. A 600 watt is way more efficient than a 1000 watter anyday! However That 1k will produce some dense buds.. The 600 is no slouch, either.

Agreed - you could keep a 1000w sufficiently cool with a closed hood and good ventilation, but it's a constant battle. I use a 600w and am very happy with my results. Heat stress sucks, and isn't worth the risk in that small of space imho... especially since extra heat can adversely affect your overall yield.
Great to see a fellow canuck - are you from eastern or western Canada? Keep 'er green!!

I'll put them in the tent under the 100 wts and keep an eye on the temp inside the room, I plan on having 1 12 inch fan on each side of the tent blowing cool air inside "my basement is always at 62F" " + I'll have another inside the tent blowing at medium speed to get the plants strong,,as for exhaust I'll have a carbon filter fan sucking out from the tent to another a dryer vent not being used,,,I think with the basement being cool and blowing that air inside will help keep the room at under 78-79F,,,
By the way I'm from Eastern Ontario,,where are you from?

It's still gonna heat that tent, like a woodburnin' stove! Why not just exhaust and use that 62 degree air,as passive intake air? Your not going to be able to keep an eye on it for 24 hours.. Are ya? You never said whether or not you had an enclosed fixture.. Don't set yourself up for disaster.. I beg ya!

Ambient temps are a bit higher where my 1k sits.... My grow space temps usually stay below 86 degrees....and that's a 1k in a smaller space than the tent you're about to get.... So, IMO, I think you'll be ok with the 1k....but that's just me....
And Ga is right.... 1k's produce thick dense nugs............

Totally agree....
An enclosed hood is going to be essential to remove all heat distributed from that hot ass 1k bulb.... I wouldn't be able to grow without my enclosed hood....
And yes the cool air should be used as passive intake air and the exhausted out.... That right there will eliminate any temp problems.... (just wanted to emphasize)....:rastasmoke:....

CGI... I run a 1K,too... But I have the heat issue at bay.. I don't think he mentioned, using an enclosed fixture. Mine is.. LxWxH,6x5x4. I do have a dimmable ballast too.. That helps later on. I run it 1k, 90 percent of the time. That stretch gets them close to the hood. Being able to control that part of the grow,is workin; for me.. I got an Indica dominate strain, too! Short in stature... Till I let them get big and outgrow the space... Just did that! Tryin' to figure out what I'm gonna do.. All the RESPECT in tha world to ya,CGI !

Ok, I wasn't thinking of the idea of using an enclosed hood,,I only have a regular one and never thought that the enclosed one would make a diffence,,but after checking up on it I'll definitely run to the store and get one,,little over my budget but it's going to be ok, especially if it helps,,

enclosed hood will be the game changer there. butt if temperature is at 80-82 degrees, and you wanna fight fire with fire.. so to speak, run Co2. i keep my room at 82-84 with Co2 and the yield/quality is effing ridiculous. i understand if Co2 isnt in your budget at the moment, but a system including a tank and reg and suspended lines @canopy lvl, cost me close to 350.. best investment i ever made. tank refill is 17 dollars. im in cali, dont know the avail of co2 there.. sorry to hear of your illness, and i hope your health returns with the vigor im sure your plants will display.

This being my 1st grow in years has been a sort of trial and error and can only learn through rookie mistakes,,,The 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 6 1\2 grow tent and the 1000 watter with only a reflective hood has done the trick for me for this grow,,,but you guys are right,,the next time I put the plants in for flowering (which should be in the next 3 weeks) I will go and get a 1000 watter with the enclosed hood,,,like you guys say,,it should keep the temp down inside the tent,,I'm also opening up the window at night when the light cycle comes on 12/12 and the cold winter air is blown in with a 12 inch fan into the tent and with the heat of the lamp it keeps the tent at roughly 82 degrees,,works well so far but I will get an enclosed light for the next time,,,thanks for the input,,
