I was watching weed wars on tv and the grower had problems with mites and when he brought it in the girl examined it with a microscope on a pc screen and rejected the harvest, hey, I'll smoke it!
But do you think that's this sort of thing:
Portable-USB-1-3MP-Digital-Microscope-Endoscope
Then I saw this sort of thing:
ebay.com/itm/360419353801?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649]eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
might be cool to look at tricombs may be.
Anybody have a really good product for inspecting harvest and deciding when to harvest?
Thanks

My girlfriend bought the 800x one just like that. I think it was around 50 bucks on ebay. Its hard for me to focus good with it since the zoom and focus are the same knob. Here's a couple pics of what i came up with. The second one you posted is pretty good to use. You cant hook it up to the computer but it works great for checking out the trichs.

I'm going to get both things. May be not those exact ones...
The user reviews on this one are very informative:
amazon.com/Digital-Microscope-400x-Image-Capture/dp/B0051ML8R6/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324910750&sr=1-7]Amazon.com: USB Digital Microscope with 400x Zoom and Image Capture: Electronics
I'll probably get this one:
Black USB Digital Microscope 2 Mega Pixel Video Camera 200X
I buy a lot from newegg and they are good about returns.

dont waste your money on those small microscopes, too hard to focus and eye pieces suck...buy one that has some size not those tiny things

The Eyeclops does a good job for the price.
Nice depth of field and it has a thumb drive to transfer anywhere.

what about a pentax digital camera with a sweet lens? i think mines like 45 times zoom, and i get amazing pics with a little 15 dollar tripod. the camera was 230 with the lens on ebay, it works great for my grows, and now i have a rad camera too.

I've been looking at a lot of things, I use my canon sx130 and it does pretty good.

But that's about as good as it can get.
I just bought one of these:
SVP Handheld Digital Mobile Magnifier MicroScope
Have to see what it can do when it gets here...

So the new toy is good and all, just a lot harder to work...
I won't be using it to judge the tricombs unless I do it by removing the bud, have to have to put it on a table so it will be still.
It can make fantastic pictures but it really takes some work, still I like it.

I bought a $5 60x microscope off ebay. Has a little led light on it too. It's a little tricky to use and near impossible standing up. I just cut off a leaf and have a look at it. Works for me and I paid a fraction of the cost. Doesn't take picture though :)

Yea it has a zoom button that you push one way for in and the other for out and push it to take a picture.
Then it has a focus ring, just hard to coordinate everything, if only I'd spent more time playing video games when I was young.
I was looking at the eyeclops like Weezard was saying, might still try one of those if I don't get to mastering this one.
Been doing better though.

I have the $13 scope from Radio Shack. It works but takes a while to get good at it. You really have to make sure you are not confusing shadows with brown/amber trichs. My neighbor bought a $30 dollar handheld that works much better. I will have one of those next year since it is really easy to use in the field.
I am definitely looking for a better model like the ones shown above. It would be really nice to have a view on my PC. I have a laptop that I could take into the field but I don't think the scope will run on batteries. I am off the grid so have to use generators for electrical power.

I just got a scope similar to the one pictured. It's called gro 1 . Although it comes with a stand I found that I had to put the scope on a table. So if you want to take a picture of a spider mite, you have to take the infected leave off the plant and put it on a table. Use the scope like you would use a magnifying lupe.

I'm finding the microscope is cool to play with but for judging tricombs on the plant I went back to my previous camera, it's slower than my new one but takes good close up shots.

Opinions? I'm thinking about harvesting these buds pretty soon even though I don't see any amber...

For simply looking at trichomes to judge when to chop, I've found a simple jewlers loup works best. Not as much detail as shown here in the thread, but definitely enough to see what's clear, milky and amber. I will admit being the geek I am, the electronic versions look like fun to play with.. but I'd still take the simple route for deciding when to harvest.
Peace,

I started out with a basic 8x then bought a 35x and now im waiting for a GSI 200x usb HD.LED that I picked up for 39$ on Amazon .Cant wait! I'm gonna be a real scientist! But for some reason every time I look for bugs using some form of magnification device. ( having a mite issue) I always think I'm gonna look and one of those fuckers are gonna bare teeth at me and challenge me to a fight lol
