Haha, hmm i guess now would be a good time to tell why i made this thread in the first place. Although it would have been nice if you had asked more questions...
OK, one last question b4 i tell you.
Did any of you think you were talking to a human being?

Ok fine you spoilsports, ha ha, spoilsports... What a word.
I was feeding your questions and comments into artificial intelligence programs... Have any of you tried talking to these things? They can seem pretty realistic at times.
AI really interests me, but doesn't seem to interest many others. Thats why i brought it up in the most ass backwards way, but that didn't help its popularity either, go figure. =P
Anyway, I'll post a few programs if ne1's interested.

Question:
do you think i have a green face like dat? I ask now answer mista
Answer#1:
I think it varies.
Answer#2:
I don't know whether you have or not.
Answer#3:
Don't you remember?
friggin awesome! [/carl]
Edgar did you ever read my "for those of you who have never met anyone here" thread? I considered the possibility of one person running more than one screen name. You could be under the impression that you are talking to more people than are here. Theoretically, it could be ONE dude with even more time on his hands than ghost. So obviously the condition is needed, b.c many of us know others outside of the forum.
But taking the deceit even one step further, what if you are just posting back and forth w/a computer program, and NO ONE is really here. So GREAT demo.
Tell us about the program. What fascinates me tho about AI is I generally hear about it just in terms of some measure of performance, like communcation. Who can make the robot or program that best replicates human speech, or what can demonstrate a flexible learning ability. But to me (and I guess this is more along the lines of artificial life rather than artificial intelligence so I know it's different), I kind of rank a nasty virus higher- once created, it can self replicate, using a built in code, and propagate! Even against our will- we can barely keep up with them. ie anti viral software= natural predator, tho I wouldn't consider my firewall to be life lol.
Has anyone ever heard of computer viruses that can morph? I mean, it's not too far fetched- obviously organic viruses do. If they can't now, it will just be a matter of time when we are writing new antivirus programs for the same programs. Then we'll be fucked.
BTW edgar, you have to read Tad Williams Otherland series. You'll need to set aside quite a bit of time for it, so school and work are on the back burner for a while for you, but you'll bounce back.

Edgar, was it an actual AI program, or just a random answer generator type thing?

haha, no i didn't catch that thread.
I'll try and see about those books, they sound interesting.
Here's a project that aims to do something like you talked about (except on the defense side rather than the virus side): http://www.cyc.com/cyc/applications/cycsecure Check that site out, they have a number of other interesting projects goin' on, including a different version you can download and install on your home pc @ http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=27274&package_id=44003
The ones I was using for this thread were "chatbots" like the ones you always hear about. Here are a few online examples that you dont have to dl: http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=c4d5d403ce352330
http://www.turinghub.com/servlet/Beta3

http://chat.jabberwacky.com/ <= This one learns from every1 it ever had a chat with.
http://www.bitesizeinc.net/index.php/ainebot.html
Heres a impressive and ambitious project based on the human cortex, but i havn't seen it in action yet.: http://www.ad.com/
Here is a site with alot of links to various AI projects: http://www.geocities.com/brizglace/
I dont know about the whole artificial life thing, but i agree it does seem possible.

Jabberwacky is an odd one. Occasionally it seems very very lifelike, but other times its answers seem like total jibberish. This is due to the fact that it learns from every1 it chats with. So how realistic it is depends on how realistic you are with it. Apparently it has the ability to examine our speach and from that determin the context in which to use it. It can even reportedly "learn" other languages. While this bot is pretty good at chatting, its actual intelligence in any other subject but speach is nonexistent. Also you can edit its answers if you think of a better one..

http://www.cyc.com/cyc/applications/cycsecure may not be the site i was thinkin of, Im tryin to find a link to a certain AI program that isn't really about chatting, its intelligent but its not based on human intelligence... Can't seem to find where i put that link. I'll post it if i find it. http://www.cyc.com/cyc/applications/cycsecure is still an interesting project though, if your into network security.
