I have been researching drying buds from many sites and came across microwave, oven, toaster ,envolope in the sun, or wind in the dark techniques to dry buds the microwave i assume destroys my buds thc content along with the oven and aluminum foil on top of toaster methods. The wind in the dark or curing it in the dark work well but are time consuming. With the theory that if you double boil the leaves of the harvest with butter the thc does not reach the temperature to neither vaporize or burn. What if I were to double boil the buds but have a paper towel lining with no moisture in the pan that is in the pan that has water would that dry my buds keeping the thc in place? feel free to disprove me or correct me i just want to dry a sample of the bud before i harvest to make sure shes her ripest

I suppose you could try a bud by drying it super fast. But.... drying it properly only takes 4 or 5 days, and it will be done right. You can buy wine where the process shortened, and you can tell by the taste.
My suggestion is to go to Radio Shack and buy a small magnifying glass (x50 to 100) for $5 to $10 and just check where you are in the process and do it properly.

Duke... if you boil your buds in water and butter you will simply remove the THC from the buds. The THC will attach to the oil in the butter and the resulting buds will be next to worthless. This is how I make canni-butter to use in brownies and such, but certainly not how I would dry a bud that I wished to smoke later.
As mentioned above, nothing beats a slow drying process... the slower the better. You can hurry up the process in various ways... A microwave on defrost... a convection oven set to 250deg... your imagination is the limit here.
The faster you dry the buds however, the more there is going to be of the non-active THC (reducing the quality that could be achieved with a proper dry and cure) and there is also more chlorophyll in the leaves. (making your smoke much harsher and "green" tasting) Slow drying helps preserve the good stuff and gets rid of the bad stuff... and curing at 60-65% humidity for at least a week removes much more. Product that I have left in the 60-65% RH range for over a month becomes very powerful and very smooth... well worth the wait and the effort.
Growing this stuff is just half of the project. Learning to cure out your product properly is the just as important second step to producing good quality product. Try it one time and you will be convinced. I was.

not to mention the sugar production, when it reaches its final stage of death the potency,aroma and flavor is at maximum. slow cure all the way, thats how its done. if i wanna get high school i might pull some crap out and dry quick...its just not worth the stress, though. from kids to buds if its one thing ive learned...its patience:jointsmile:

If you really must try to cure bud quickly the best way is to either pickup a food dehydrator or use the oven and set the temp below 200 degrees. It will take a good day long to dry them. They will be harsh to smoke because they weren't allowed to cure properly but they will be smokable.

I've found that overnight in the oven on the rack with only the pilot going can dryout quite a lot a bud without ever getting close enough to temperatures that should degrade the thc. The double boiler thing sounds more like making cannabutter than a method to dry bud, sounds entrigueing, but how would you burn your bud with butter on it? If you think I might be confused, your right. The double boiler idea, I do think is good, when water boils at 212F and THC starts vaporizing at > 225F then you have a safety margin built into your method. Freaze dried is another method you might try. If your aim is to harvest at peak "ripeness" I would look to the tricomes on the buds. Use a jewelers loop 15X to 30X power and look for 'your choice' a. Milky Tricomes =higher-THC = better head buzz, b. Amber Tricomes = higher- cbc/cbn= better body buzz.

As I read this;
"but have a paper towel lining with no moisture in the pan that is in the pan that has water would that dry my buds keeping the thc in place? "
There will be no butter involved.
Just a paper towel or two.
The gentleman is just looking to limit the temperature to a safe range.
@DCG
I would advise against the hassle and steam of a double boiler
240 degree oven for 15 minutes will dry and decarboxylate at the same time.
It will be dry, and probably a li'l nasty tasting but it will allow you to asses your harvest.
