View Full Version : Question about Labcorp test...

Hi,

First, yes, I've read the FAQs and done some searching, and couldn't find the answer to my question.

I submitted a sample today for a 10-panel non-DOT test that ended up being split specimen, which, according to the chain of custody form, was to be sent to Labcorp tonight. I ended up going with the dilution method since it's been about 25 days since I last smoked and I was a weekend only type of smoker - I also tested negative on several home tests with the first voids of the day, but, I drink a LOT of water daily (all I drink is water, coffee, or alcohol, boring, right?) so I wasn't sure if my 1st voids were generally dilute anyway. I didn't want to take any chances since I really want this job.

Long story short, I may have overdone it a bit on the dilution - but my question is this - before splitting the specimen, after confirming the temperature, the lab person dipped what looked to be a PH measurement into the urine. Was that all this measured? Or would that have also checked the creatinine/SG levels of the sample as well? Or does that get done at the same time as the actual drug screen? If it measured all 3 that would be great since I would essentially be in the clear already. If it was just PH levels, well, guess I'm in for a long weekend of waiting. :(

I'm trying not to freak myself out too badly - I figure worst case scenario is they'll tell me to come back in and try again if it was too dilute, since I know they really want me for this position. However, paranoia is getting the best of me. Any thoughts? Thanks.

pH is checked to determine adulteration. Read post #13 in this thread:

As long as you didnt spike your sample with drop-in additives, household cleansers, etc, then you have nothing to worry about in regards to an unsatisfactory pH.

Heres hoping that this is the fortunate case for you. In quite a few pre-employment instances, a "too-dilute" ruling raises eyebrows high enough for the employer to just simply move on to the next candidate for hire.

Yeah, I didn't adulterate and I knew the PH checked out because he read it and tossed it then proceeded to split the specimen. I was just hoping that that whatever he dipped also checked the creatinine and SG. Ah well, guess I'll have to buckle down and wait.

I'm fairly sure they would allow me to...in any case I did dilute with a mixture of water and gatorade and took creatine supplements starting 3 days beforehand as well as B2 vitamins the day of. I'll report back once I know for sure. Thanks for the swift reply.

No news today...working under the assumption that that is a good thing. I already know my start date, so, if I havent heard by the middle of next week, I plan on calling to make sure everything is all good (in a non obvious way).

No news again today, making it 2 business days...getting cautiously optimistic..

Since you have a start date secured, just simply show up on the first day and carry on with your duties without saying a word to anyone. In the world of drug testing, no news usually means good news. You would be notified one way or another if there were any problems with your urine sample.

That's the plan. I have a few last bits of paperwork that I'm planning to hand deliver to HR tomorrow - I'm going to say, so, "I'm good to start on [x date] then?" casually. But I think/hope I'm in the clear. Thanks again for the response.
