first of all, remember that you are attempting to grow in the Nazi capitol of the US: Jan Brewer, Russell Pearce, JT What'shisface..............(the guy who recently shot himself, wife, kid and more!)

that said, I grew successfully in the Tucson area 40+ years ago. I planted them under mesquite trees as we already had helicopters back then.

it can be done. several threads I've read over the past year and some think that the soil in AZ is the optimum; but it's alkaline, so I don't know exactly where they got that idea.
