Howdy pals, I'm back after a few years. I'm getting ready to start a new grow ( 2x3x2 dresser, hooray thrift stores) and am going to attempt to use LED lighting with a CFL supplement. I've been poring through threads for a week or so now, and have no real direction as to which brand/type LED to go with.

Currently, I am looking at:
Amazon.com: 100W Lighthouse Hydro LED UFO Grow Light 6 Band Flowering 100 Watts: Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Lighthouse-Hydro-Light-Flowering-Watts/dp/B0051HOCJC/ref=sr_1_14?s=garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1316296999&sr=1-14)
or something like this
New 180w Lighthouse Blackstar LED Grow light 3w LED's | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-180w-Lighthouse-Blackstar-LED-Grow-light-3w-LEDs-/290556299056?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a6814730)

If you have any suggestions for another brand, feel free to let me know. As I said, I will be throwing in 2-4 26w CFL's (6500k for veg, 2300K for flower). Don't tell me to build my own, I will blow up my house in the process and by luck of the draw, probably blow yours up as well. And that kind of blowing makes no one happy.

"The future's uncertain and the END is always near"

That's why he's pimpin' me!

Howzit Dutch?

Life is too short to type anything twice.

Have not tried the units mentioned but would reject the first offering for "watering" down the watts
IMO, the power would be better spent providing more photons at 660nm.
Lots of red and blue will do, jus' fine.
Got some Jack Herrer under 660:460. They are very happy so far.

Commercial units.
Kessil's are way overpriced and most fleabay UFOs are crap.
I like the specs and thinking behind the Lumigrow.
Stra8outtaweed is using some interesting, and affordable lights too.
Look him up.

And, unless he's learned a lot recently, you can safely ignore any input from Khyberkitsune.

There's an interesting DIY light being built on a sister board right now.
Google for Emilya.

Wish I could be more help, brah.
The only useful advice I have for you is to avoid sellers that hype.
(It'll take at least 180W. of leds to outgrow a 400W HPS)
Skip sellers who are still searching for the "lost chord" of colors.
(Red and blue is all you need, plants are quite flexible about spectra.)
Spend the extra buck for quality.
(because cheap is cheap, TANSTAAFL)

That's 'bout the best I can do when this medicated.

Aloha,
Weeze

I've done a lot of looking around, talked to quite a few indoor growers, talked to electrical engineers (3). Their suggestions all sound like we should all look at lights designed with modular parts, plug and play, so if digital ballast goes, just plug in the new one. same for cooling fans & and light modules too. There is one manufactuer that come very close to this ideal. They also have the best heat sink for the light mod that I've seen. [URL="http://www.hydrogrowled.com"] All of their light seem very well made. Have the big 300 something can't remember this moment, but crap you GOT to wear sunglasses if your under it. Thet do somthing with the lenses on their leds put out like crazy. They claim its on the same PAR value as a 1000W HPS! Just got this one, and time will tell, but damn its looks great so far.

Holy Balls, so expensive. I guess there is no such thing as a cheap LED grow right now, eh?

Weezard, do you have an opinion on this?
Web Store - GROWLIGHTPRO.COM (http://www.growlightpro.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2452481)

He is using 3w Epistar and CREE LED's. A bit pricier, but still do-able.

just search on google on ledstores aka growlightpro or go and check rewiews on amazon..... its not good news if you ask me and i had one that isnt working.... but thats just my opinion but i very much doubt they use the advitised diodes and they are 3 w chips!!!!! my 450 only used 300w power for 539 $ i now wished that i had spend that bit more and bought growledhydro instead i least they would have worked and worked longer than 4 months ..... just another ebay light i am afraid, sure someone who can have a internet buisness with a site full of spelling mistakes.... well i think it says it all i should have been smarter.
good luck in your hunt for a good led panel.

Or so he says.

Sorry I missed this question earlier been busy.

If you've searched, I'm sure you've found all the warnings from Tibor's disgruntled customers.
And I would not put much faith in the integrity of an owner that does not even bother to have someone proofread his site.

I'd say that both my earlier statements apply to this guy.

I did just see a report on the WEX450.
In price/performance, it's looking better all the time.
Get a good led light and you will be quite satisfied.
