The dynamics of a male cannabis plant

Hi All,
Ive had a couple of plants herm on me before and of course have had some males which i have identified and disposed of... Ive been growing for about 4 years now and am amazed ive never come across this before. So, Ive had pollen sacs before and understand how this can pollinate a female etc, but what about the bannana type flowers that people talk about, this is clearly a later stage of development for the male plant but how does this happen? What is the purpose of these male parts? before the plant drops pollen, do these appear? I think you get the jist of my question, I would really appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me...

When the male plant is left to grow to maturity, the pollen sacks open up to show what appear to look like the banana flowers I think you are referring to.... Once the pollen sacks/pods open, the pollen starts to fly....


What is the purpose of these male parts? Much like other pollen building flowers, these pods open up for insects to come and land, pick up pollen, and carry it to the female flower....in-case the wind doesn't....

before the plant drops pollen, do these appear? I've never waited long enough to find out nor would I....

banana flowers are often times found on female plants that self pollinate at the very end of flowering. Many strains do this naturally as a way of ensuring survival, and sometimes will pop a few flowers when you stress them or fuck with the photoperiod. These differ slightly from straight on male pollen sacs.

The bud is the females flower, and the male pollen sacs is its own flower. They grow the same as females but instead of colas they have big collections of pollen excreting flowers.

You wont have pollen until the pollen sacs mature. Think of human reproduction, except for the the fact that marijuana plants can actually fuck themselves............

Nanners start-out as individual balls. As the plant matures, more balls will form behind the first, making them look almost like a grouping of grapes. As the balls form (actually, the balls are un-opened flowers) the flower(s) will open-up revealing the bannana-shaped anthers. These appendages hold the millions of pollen grains. Pollen is inert until mature and has opened-up. Manually opening the nanner will kill the immature/underformed pollen.

When a calyx is mature, and the pistils are ready...the pistil (a hollow tube) will catch the pollen and transport it to the ovary inside the calyx. Ovary plus pollen makes a seed.
