IS THIS TENT OK TO DO THIS IN SIZEWISE???
WILL WE NEED TO GET AN EXTRACTOR FAN OR CAN IT WORK WITHOUT ONE SINCE ITS SUCH A SMALL OPERATION???
HOW FAR SHOULD THE LIGHT BE KEPT AWAY FROM THE PLANTS???
ANY INFO ON SMALL SCALE INDOOR GROWING MUCH APPRECIATED PPL :)

alrite mate im on m y first grow and im growing 6 plants in a 1m sq tent ive no extractor fan just a fan inside the tent wit all the vents open, i also leave the door of the tent open for a while during the day, and im using a 400w hps! so no an extractor fan is not a nessecity imo although im sure a lot of ppl would disagree

Its all about the temps man. If your temps are under 85 youre good to go. If its over 85, time to put in some extra fans. Easy as that.

A temp/hygrometer is a great thing to have around so youll know the temp and humidity(pretty cheap also). Have you thought about starting the little ones off with cfls and work your way up to the HPS? Just a thought. As for the distance with the HPS that should be fine. If they start to stretch badly you will need to lower the HPS but watch out for the heat.

yeah i have taught about startint them wit CFL's but the chap in the grow shop said HPS be cool trough the grow and im going to look arount for a tempreture gadget today just to make sure its ok when they start growing ill put up pics wat would be the closest the HPS could go down to the plant without any burn i wont be moving it down till they get growing:stoned:

I've tried afghan kush myself mate, I found it pretty slow to come along in veg growth....but then again i was using LED lighting...... With regards to smell, i would invest in carbon filter and extractor fan, after a while the plants (even 1 or 2) will start to stink out your entire house. the carbon filter is the best way of dealing with unwanted smells.... I found a pretty reasonable one on ebay from kitbagshop...

Once again the distance really depends on your setup. I have my 400 around 8in but i have everything dialed in temp wise and i keep a close eye on them. According to my chart the optimal distance is 5-16in. Of corse you will want to go with 12-16in til they get a little bigger then go from there. Once they get bigger place your hand above the plant and if the heat is uncomfortable raise the light or add additional air circulation to the room.

I personally prefer to start off in small pots and gradually work my way up to the finishing pots. Doing this the plant will always have fresh soil. I go from party cups to 1 gal to 3gal. I wait til the plant is almost rootbound before transplanting to maximize my pots. This is just how i do it and its been working great for me. Good luck

A little plant in a big container will spend more time concentrating on its roots instead of whats above ground. So it will seem like your plant is growing real slow for awhile. It should still do fine considering ive seen several grows that started off in big pots and still turned out great. Just pay attention to your watering. The soil will stay moist longer with little root growth to drink it up in the beginning. Good luck

You might try in future to keep your newly sprouted shoots under a cfl for a week before butting under hps. The week under cfl helped me a lot

My general approach to lighting is this...
Seedlings: Once their cute little heads emerge from after you've germinated them, immediately put them under florescent lights...and keep the light as close to the top of them as possible, 24/7. This will help prevent severe stretching.
Once the seedlings roots spread past the initial growing stage, and start poking out to the point ya gotta put 'm some where...you plant them either in soil of a hydro basket...
This is the time you get the little things under the big light. When initially placing the light, start out at a nice, conservative distance. Let the plants get used to the intensity.
After a couple of days, start lowering it an inch or two at a time. The plants will let you know when the light is too close (If you don't trust the "hand" system)
