Male plants can show without any change in light cycle. I had one turn male a month ago and another turn male a month prior to that, not much rhyme or reason to it.

normal looking to me, just looks like new growth starting. you can sex without changing the light cycle to 12/12 too. just change it to 18/6 and when the plant is ready to flower it will begin to show preflowers (pistols if female, or a sack if male) it's easy to tell the difference in preflower.
