Same problem here. This gets frustrating.
It'd be great to see some people come back, but I think that frustration has cost them a few members.

An overt ack of experienced mods, no quality controls on those giving growroom assistance, rules being arbitrarily enforced or not enforced at all...
At least these are some of the reasons I don't participate much any more. I've talked to many of the old timers that have left here, and the story is pretty much the same. Too many punks, not enough of an effort for punk removal. Used to be this was a comfortable site to avoid the younger/immature crowd, as this WAS a site dedicated to the medical use of cannabis. Now it looks just like any other dope site. I came here to help other cannabis patients learn the process of growing, not to teach jr. high kids to hide their grows in their parents home, and I have no desre to watch the drug talk continue to cloud this site's integrity.
Perhaps management will address this issue eventually, but the inexperience of the mods have cost this site dearly.

Meh!
They don't seem to care.:(
And offering constructive criticism can get you banned!:wtf:
This used to be the best cannabis board around.
Had PMs, helpful master growers, brilliant thinkers, and superior mods.
It still has the best MJ archives on the web!
The decline was a very sad thing to watch.
I still pop in, (when it's working), and try to make helpful posts here and there.
But, I now hang-out on the working, and responsive boards where most of the talent here has fled.
Won't mention any urls.
That would be rude to Sundance.
If you can google, you can find me, easily.
On-line, most of the day, elsewhere.
As for Cdot?
Make use of the parts that still function when you can.
They are offered free of charge.
Don't even bother to complain.
Seems it's a take it, or leave it, as-is, kine sing!
Aloha my friends.

Here! Here! The bogginess and triviality are a bit tedious. Still plenty of decent thinking going on though it seems. I like the location specific angle.

Most of the site issues seem to be due to lack of resources. "The server is too busy." "Down for scheduled maintenance."
Used to be this site would just have a brief hour long downtime for database and whatnot around 11PM Cali time every day. Cool, I could work with that.
Now, it's getting near-impossible to maintain a journal here, given the downtime, and then I've got another job that keeps me ultra-busy which only compounds the issue further, especially since it involves a BIG company whose name means 'A musical note raised a semitone above natural pitch'
And most other sites don't interest me because they're heavily commercialized (Like RIU with its own store, wtf man) or way too astroturfy, or full of punks. Though I do like to go to one punk-filled board because it's absolutely fun to let loose and troll them. I must get banned/unbanned every other day over there because half the mods worship me and the other half absolutely hate me.

Over moderation can be just as bad IMO, I've belonged to other sites for other hobbies and it can get way out of control.
I'm faily new here and compared to above mentioned experiences this forum seems fairly tame. I haven't even noticed any references to moderators but I have learned it's not good to challenge them as they do have the power to ban you.
This site is free but it can't be free to operate so I'll reserve my critisizm although the the busy server thing can be annoying it generally seems brief.
I think there are a LOT of redundant postings which could be addressed by a little more moderation I think because a lot of people are lazy and don't bother to search a forum before posting general questions which have probably been answered dozens of times over.

The over-moderation tends to come from those with nothing better to do or too obsessed with their little corner of the internet.
I do believe we still have a lack of moderators. I shouldn't be one due to my current ties with commercial endeavors, as that would pose a conflict of interest. No doubt I'd get some recommendations, but I just can't do it for now.
I wish we could implement a system that would semi-scan a post and suggest similar threads before allowing a post - and you WOULD have to read at least a few threads before being allowed to post your post. Granted, it would be mad annoying, BUT it would really cut down redundant posting, plus stop billions of nonsensical threads.
Information wants to be free, but it can't be free when it's weighed down by redundancy, which quite often introduces flawed information.

Ive found another Colorado only forum that even offers daily deals to the members. It is associated with mile hi mmj patient magazine.
This one is down way to much.

There isn't a really good Colorado board. ICmag and here are the best I've found. I don't give a shit about marijuana culture, bong design, etc., but I'm intensely committed to the politics of legalization in Colorado. Here is best for that, even though it is slow.

This is exactly the measure I had to implement on one of my discussion boards. When non-members are draining resources and not contributing actively to the site, it greatly raises operating costs and system resource usage.

This is too funny...albeit sad really....instead of a moderator comming here and explaining what and why this board is having problems they just move the thread instead of addressing our issues...I'm a senior citizen and I do enjoy comming here and reading the forum...but it is really hard staying loyal to this site for sure.

In all honesty, putting this in the Colorado section when it's a technical issue does count as posting in the wrong forum section.

the only reason it was posted in the colorado section is because I was wondering if other colo. posters are having the same problems as I...
still waiting on a reply from an admin or moderator on what this site is going to do to fix the problem...it seems to be getting worse every day with the site being down so much....maybe it's time to switch servors to a site where they can handle the amount of traffic they have here.

The reason why the thread was moved to this forum is because it is better suited for this forum over any other. Plus it can be more recognizable to the site powers-that-be when posted here in the Feedback forum.

I understand your frustrations completely DB. You and the rest of the Colorado members are definitely not alone in experiencing the issues at hand. Its even frustrating for me (a non-resident of Colorado) to try to log on here, only to see "Busy Server", "Gateway Timeout", "504 Error" notices and the like. And yes it has been a daily thing for me as of late.
Unfortunately, the Moderators themselves are powerless to remedy the gremlins plaguing the site, as that responsibility rests on the shoulders of the site owners and Admins. Im pretty sure they are fully aware of the situation, as this had been a problem even before the forum took on its "new look". And Im sure they are currently working at it to remedy the problem once and for all. I guess all we can do at this point is to exhibit some patience in midst of our frustrations while all the gremlins are being ironed out.
As far as what steps are being taken to remedy the situation, your guess is probably as good as mine.

Why does the site continuously indicate the server's too busy?
It is such a good domain name I wonder if the owner thinks this site will always have huge numbers of visitors regardless of it's performance? If so I think he/she will eventually find out that's not the case.
So what's the deal? Why haven't you upgraded your equipment so your members don't keep wasting their time coming here to find it doesn't work?
Better copy this post to my clipboard because I'm assuming when I click Submit the stupid server will tell me to go to hell.

I totally understand where you are comming from on the mod 's not being able to control server etc....I run a major football board with 100,000 posters(major football team) and we are experiancing problems ourselves with all the teams being switched over to the nfl umbrella it has been rough going the last year or so but at least our admin is keeping us advised and notified what has been going on which it sounds like you guys are in the dark somewhat.
our colo forum has lost a lot of good posters over the last 6 months or so and I really hate to see it looking like a morgue in the forums.
heres hoping things get better soon...

Hey Whitetop, felt the same way. It is kinda wierd without all the old regular hilarious comments, etc. I expect most just lurk in and are trying to teach the management a lesson-but it doesn't work that way in the private sector. Free is still free. I searched way back and saw a lot of posts that indicated many frustrations with the "changes" to this site ie: rules-I expect. :wtf: Guess they made it a little too civil for some of us-survivable though. A few ole good'un's still around. Expect we all come and go due to private issues! See ya around!
Denverbear: Sundance is the final yes/pass or no/banned! Might wanna go to bottom of Main page and "Contact Us" and let them know your concerns. Unfortunately, from the threads I've been into-it may fall on deaf ears and hardened hearts. AS many of the great mods left. They are in the process of getting new ones and one of the new (maybe and an old one) are there and have good, compassionate hearts: Not familiar with all of them. Good luck: PR
