Ok guys, I got 26 sprouts up. Oldest are 7 days old. Some of em are 3 to 4 inches tall already. They were germed under cfl and led lights, but most are outside now in the sun. They get about 6 hrs or more of direct sunlight. I live in southern US, so I got really long, hot season. Got em in red beer cups now, some in 5 gal. Buckets, using earthgro medium. Not tryin to spend alot of money. I dont think they can be found from anyone, as they are in the middle of a half mile square of land I own, and surrounded by forrestry company pine forest for miles. Please, give me some tips or help. Ill get pics up when my phone wants to cooperate with me. Thanks guys

I also live in the south. The main thing i would worry about there is wildlife. Deer and rabbits love those plants. Also its been pretty dry down here this year so be prepared to transport alot of water that way. The best way that ive heard to keep the pots from drying out so fast is dig some holes and place the pots in them. Thats keeps the direct sunlight off the pots keeping them moist longer. Weezard says that if you get bounty dryer sheets around the base of the plant itll help to keep all the bugs and pests away. Just put a slice in the sheet and place it around the stem of the plant. That should keep ANTS away also. They are real bad around here and love to make beds in the pots. Also you might want to want to set the new seedling in the shade for a couple days and slowly advance it in more light. Its a big change from cfls to direct sunlight. So slowly work your way up or you could fry the little ones. Well good luck and keep up updated.

I got a creek I gotta cross to get to the plot. Spring fed. I also got 5 gal. Buckets burried half way waitin for the transplant.and I been preppin the area with plant safe bug n ant killer. It says I cant post pics, tho... Not allowed..... Thanks alot man.... Ill keep the updates commin...

Another thing you might want to invest in is some Serenade. If you have a tractor supply store or farm supply store in your area its cheaper. I paid 20 bucks for a bottle but its gonna last a long time. Watch your plants real close for any pm. Especially around flower time. The humidity gets so high down here that it became a problem for me last year. If you use the serenade, just spray them weekly while they are vegging then you have a better chance of not having it during flower. Any thing you mist on the plants make sure its in the early morning or late afternoon so the droplets dont magnify the sun. Serenade isnt a cure for it but its a good preventative. Stay ahead of the game. And once again try and deer proof as best as you can haha. You probably already know this but it cant be stressed enough.......Never tell or show anyone your area no matter how much you trust them. Good luck

Yeah man, I was plannin on investin in some chicken wire n shit. We got a ton of deer down here. Serenade, its called, huh. Ill pick some up tomorrow. Soon as I can post, ill put pics up. I dont know what to do for fertilizer, on nutrients, or whatever. Anything you could suggest would be cool, man. I think mine are a lil bit streched, from what I have read on here. I dunno. I really appreciate all the help/advice.

If you wanna go cheap just get some MG from walmart for soil and fert. They have several kinds of MG nutes so just make sure you use the all purpose for veg and the bloom booster for flower. Each of the boxes of nutes will last for multiple grows. Just make sure you keep them in a dry place cause humidity and moisture will cause it to set up like a brick. They have several choices of MG soil also. I would recommend the MG organic. It cost a little more but i think its worth it. Now a lot of MG soils come with time release nutes already in them. Whether it be 4, 6, or 9 month. Its all your choice what to use. Depending on what kind you get as to how much nutes you should add every other watering. Say you get the 9 month, you shouldnt have to add nutes the whole grow unless you want to. You just kinda play it by ear. Hope this helps a little. Good luck

I hear good and bad about miracle gro. They say blue for veg and pink for flower. I dunno. Guess ill stop by tractor supply, or the co op and see what they got. Gotta check put that serenade. You said that it helps prevent mold? Thanks again man. Cant wait to get pics up. Got some workin on third set ot leafs already!

Yea the serenade is a concentrate that you mix with water and spray the plants. I personally havent had to deal with pm since i started using it. It doesnt smell that great but youre outside so who cares haha. IMO theres nothing wrong with MG. You were talking about going cheap thats why i mentioned it. You can always make your own soil. Theres all kinds of cheap soil recipes on the internet. If you make your own i would strongly recommend some dolomite lime to help with the ph. Im using FFOF but its like 30 bucks a bag around these parts but im really liking it so far. If you see a soil called Hyponex, stay away from it. It will turn grey and hard as a rock. I suppose you could get it if you wanted to patch some holes in the driveway. haha

Hahaha. I got a long, gravel driveway, so that dirt would do me NO good! I been using earthgro, and its been good so far. I got a few more bags, too, so ill probably stick to it. Its good midgrade bagseed. This is a trial for me, see how it goes and learn a bit before gettin some seeds that cost alot$. So far, I think its goin good. Thanks for the wisdom, my friend.

It looks fine to me. Itll grow into that little bit of stretch and it could have alot to do with the strain. One thing i did notice though is it would be better for you to have one plant per pot. Nothing but problems come from having more than one in a single pot. Earthgro is ok. I used it once with some perlite and it did ok. You really cant beat 2.50 for a bag of soil haha. Another little thing i can tell you is to try and find the thinnest plastic pots that you can find. Dont ever use ceramic. Youll find that one out come transplant time. They are looking good and hopefully they will make it to harvest with no major problems. Good luck

Yeah man, earthgro went up to$2.77 a bag... Infationary times we are livin in!! All but one of the doubles was an accident. My lil puppy knocked over the pots and ate some dirt, so I wrote those seeds off n replanted new ones in the pots. Whadda ya know, they grew. I figured id let em get a lil set, then seperate em. One of em got broke off right under the clotys right after sproutin, dog again, so I just stuck it in a pot with another plant, gave it water, and its growin great! Who would have thought! Tuff lil fella. Oh, and they are all plastic pots, had to hijack some of the wifeys decorative lookin ones, cuz I ran out of containers that small. Def great advice man. Keep it commin, its all appreciated.

Sorry no post sooner... Busy days. Well, so far, I am about 10 days in, and the oldest plants are pushin out their 3rd set of leaves. Lookin really healthy, so far. Really happy with things, I think. Hop I get about 10 to 15 healthy girls outta the 26 plants. Aimin lil high, but its ok. Ill post some new pics in my album tomorrow when the sun is out. Is there anything I need to be doin now, to or for the plants? Thanks all!

Hey all. Added a few more pics to my album of a few plants. Got one, that sprouted with no leafs. Well, the first set came in, kinda. Lil deformed, and the second set started, butonly on one side. One side has the 3 finger leaf, and the other side looks like its gonna be a whole new branch.. I dunno, got a pic of it in the album, if anyone has any info bout it. Thanks guys

Yeah, they wipe off. Looks like bug shit. I got some safe, organic insecticidal soap spray, so that should take care of it. Hope they do good, cuz I am goin to the beach for a couple days. Just give em a shot of water before I go, should do fine. I also got a light pyrethrine spray, in case the soap stuff is a flop.

Other than that, they seem to be doin good. Gave em a lil shot of some fert today, see how they like that. We had some storms down here, and some of em stretched a bib cuz of the cloudiness, but they seem to be doin good. Gettin big. Hope I get lots of girls!

Quick question, how long should I wait to transplant from the cups to a 5 gal bucket? If I dump the cup in my hand, I got a decent lil bit of roots showin wrappin around the dirt. Alot of reading says about 3 weeks. This sound good?

Have you thought about progressing to that 5 gal? I like to go from cup to 1 gal to 3 gal then to whatever you want to finish with. Doing it this way, your plant will always have fresh soil. Plus if you go straight to a 5 gal theres gonna be alot of unused space for awhile which could cause problems especially with watering. The plant also seems to concentrate more on its roots rather than whats above the soil. This is just my opinion though.
Have you thought about putting chicken wire up and fence in the plants? Might help with the rabbit situation.

I would really like to step up sizes. The only things that are gonna stop me is the fact that my plot is almost a 1/4 mile from my house, and its walkin thru pretty thick woods to get there. More transplants means more 40 pound bags of dirt I gotta carry back there. Not to keen on that. Still gettin over surgeory. I take a bag or 2 back there every now and then, when I feel up to it. Closer to the house isnt an option. Id grow indoors, but I have kids. This is kinda a trial year for me on growin. I may try steppin up like half, and goin straight to the 5's on half. See how much difference there is. And go from there for next year. I think I might have to go with the wire to protect em. If the concentrate liquid stuff dont work. Take it out there in the fall, when its cooler, and have it for end of this year, and ready for next year. This was kind of a spur of the moment thing. Germed a ton of seeds, and wasnt really ready for all the work. Next year will ne much better. Ill be ready

Yea i hear ya. Alot of people go straight to big pots. To answer your original question... if you see roots all along the bottom of your cups, its time to transplant. I didnt realize how much work itd be when i started either. Ive only been growing a year and i still have so much to learn. I spend pretty much all my spare time on this site and a couple others trying to better each grow. Sometimes i do sometimes i dont. Its all about experimenting and finding out what works best for you.

I see what you mean about growin slower in big pots. After they sprouted in lil containers, I put the 2 biggest ones right into 5 gal buckets, now they are the smallest plants. By far. Bet they got alot of roots. I think I took care of the bug problem, with the pyrethrine. Just gotta stay on it. I wish we were gettin more sun here. Just lots of rain. The biggest ones are growin first set of 7 leafers, and lookin like they might start thinkin bout branchin out. Wish I could sex em now, so I didnt have to transplant and raise the boys. Yeah, I been readin alot, too, but it dont help as much as the experience...

Cool man, ill go pick one up. Thanks for the tip. I just wish I could stop the rain. Not too much I can do about the water they are gettin, meybe rig up some sort of shield to cover most of the pot, to keep most of the water out, but let em still get sun. If you get pre ferted soil do not add any nutes or you will fry your plants, i did a grow with it and did fine. But add more ferts and you might burn em all up. The 3 month kind would be the best. Use the KISS method:)
Its up to you though.

Yeah, my goal is at least ten girls. How much did you harvest frm your 7. People are tellin me that 10 would give me like 2 pounds.
My plants are about 1/4 mile thru woods. But its my property, and my buddy has a truck, and likes offroadin, so we took 3 cases of bottled water out there to water with, along with dirt. Way better than humpin a ton of dirt n water. I hope everything goes good. Thanks for stoppin by

Well, rain stopped, and sun is out. Glad to see it! My oldest, biggest plants are startin to stink. Awesome! well, now the bad news. I dunno what happened, but some of the plants look like the new growth is burned, kinda brown and dyin. Most made a comeback and are growin new growth. 1 of em lost the whole growth node, and just has a lil stem stump growin from the last node. But the good news is that it started sprouting from every stem/leaf intersection. So, we will see. I dont know if it was the weak dose of mg blue they got, or the Bonide pyrethrine spray I hit em with. Might have sprayed a lil heavy, cuz I had some spider mites, and we kept gettin rain, and I wanted to kill tje bugs, cuz they were raping my lil babies. So, I sprayed them 4 times in a week. Is that too much? I dunno what caused the damage, but it seems to be gettin better. Might have been the mg, cuz it seems like it didnt bother the bigger ones. Guess they handled the nutes better. Well, you live n learn. Will put up some new pics soon. Gonna transplant more into 5 gal buckets tomorrow. Cant wait till I can sex em. Excited to see how many sexy girlies im gonna get...

Well, today makes a month old for a few of my oldest babies. Most of em are about a week younger. Gonna transplant the rest of em outta the red cups today. Puttin em in 2 or 2.5 gallons. That should get me thru sexin em, then toss the girls in 5's. Went out n seen em earlier. Lookin good. Few mite webs, but I cleaned em up n sprayed em. All the burned/damaged growth is healed up. It seems to have promoted some branching growth from all the nodes in the worst ones, but the tops seem to be showing new growth. Ill try to get pics wjen I transplant. All in all, seems to be goin really good!

Thats a good idea just watch what you are using. Pine straw will drop the ph severely. Blueberry bushes, for example, like ph around 4 so pine straw helps with them. Just a little info i picked up this year:thumbsup:

If they've grown a good bit since the last pic, They're probably old enough to start a feeding schedule as well.
I always fed every other watering, starting at 1/2 strength at this stage. Especially since your medium doesnt have many nutes to start with. What you did feed may have been leached out by the heavy rain you mentioned.
How often do you plan to go out there? I live in deep south as well (south Tx) and grow a variety of veggies outside in 3 gallon pots. I have to water Every day, and I use MG every third watering. So i was just a little concerned for ya here.. If its a good trek to your spot, I was thinkin you may wanna plant em in the ground instead so youll have to water/feed less frequently.
Just a thought

Grow looks good so far. I'd pickup a magnifying glass at radio shack, 5x or 10x should be plenty, this will help you when determining sex as well as inspect the leaves for parasites and things you cannot see with the naked eye.
Have you just considered planting them in the ground? Might help ease the watering issue once they get larger. I've seen people make 'buckets' out of chicken wire then place the chicken wire shell into a pre-dug hole, then transplant it into the hole with the chicken wire. I've heard this helps with groundhogs and such (don't know how bad they are in Alabama).
Looking good! Also have you considered topping them to produce more yield? Especially since you are outside and you dont have to be concerned with height as much as us indoor growers.

Looking good! Also have you considered topping them to produce more yield? Especially since you are outside and you dont have to be concerned with height as much as us indoor growers.
Topping/lst/fim/pinching/etc doesnt increase yield, that is a myth. The plant would produce the same amount either way.
These techniques just help prevent vertical growth, giveing other parts of the plant to get more light.

I have thought about goin into the ground, but the dirt here is terrible. I had a tomato in the ground for 2 months, watered it, took careof it and it almost died. 2 weeks ago I moved it into the same dirt im usin, and its exploded. 10 times the size. With the same care.. Dont really wanna dig out dirt and backfill with good cuz im gettin over sugery, and cant really do it. Plus, we do get the occsional chopper thru here, so I couldnt have a big crop. Have to spread em out. Thats alot of holes! 20 to 30. Not worth it to me, I guess. I do need a magnifier, tho. Next time I go to town ill get one. So looks like I will have to water n feed alot. Hit 118 here with heat index today. That cant be good for em. At least it rained so I dont have to water today. Ill give em a light nute mix tomorrow, and look em over really good. Try to take some pics. I think they look ok. Thanks for all the help!

Well, took a walk this morning. Bad news: my 4 ft monster was showin boy, so he got the chop. Also found 6 more males. Good news: found my first confirmed girl. Seen her lil hars. Also got a bunch that are alternating nodes, and not showing yet. I think this is good, as they say females show later. Hit em with a light nute mix. Lookin pretty good. Bugs are under control, seem to be growin good. Whoo hooo!

Well, took the phone with me today and snapped these pics of one of em. These are the only ones that turned out good. Got 3 showin pistils, but this is the furthest along. Only doin it at the top, now. Startin to get excited! Should I switch nutes now? If so, what NPK am I lookin for?
Bobthis

anyone?????? really need help on what kind of NPK numbers i need to look for in flowering nutes. the ones i see at the stores are like 55 phosphorus. seems a bit much to me. anyonegot some input for me. plants are kinda small, so i dont wanna go hard with em, but i want em to grow as much as possible, so i get more bud sites. i dont have tons of money, so if someone could give me some advice,or a cheaper, readily available product idea, i would appreciate it alot......

I just picked up some flora bloom from my local hydro store, the numbers on the front are 10-5-10, is that what you are looking for?
SmokeMyPiece
08-12-2011, 06:47 PM
You want a higher N for veg, and higher P-K for flower.
-When plants start showin a lighter green, they are low on N.
Fox Farm Trio is pretty much fool proof for beginners.

Cool... Ill go pick somethin up. Someone suggested this stuff that was like 10-55-24. Seems a bit strong. What do yo think?

If you cant find any of the suggested nutes listed in the stickies, then go with nutes for tomatoes.
-mapquest 'hydroponics' for ur area, you might be surprised. I know I was, there are about 6hydro stores around my area.

Well, I think ill end up with like 6 or 8 girls. I tbink they are kinda small, but its ok. I started late. I will order some good nutes for next year, and start 2 months earlier. Got a few pics of some of the little buds. Not gonna get too big of a yield, but I learned alot. Last pic is of a lil baby lizard I found chillin out on one of the plants. Guess he likes weed, too!

They all seem about a week or two behind this one, but I sprouted a few different kinds of good bagseed, so im excited to see what I get! 9 lil girls should gove me a good little harvest. Nah, no wind yet. Not even rainin here now. Im about 100 miles north of the coast, tho, so ill get it more tomorrow. I got a friend in Houma, LA and she said it was pretty ugly there. I wish I could get some rhino clones like you got, man. Next year im gonna order some good seeds, and set up an indoor room. Now that my girls are growin up, im startin to get the itch to start more. But I will wait, impatiently....

Well, went and watered today. Lookin good! Looks like im gonna have a staged harvest. Got some that are 2 or 3 weeks ahead of others. Ok by me! About 5 weeks into flower on the farthest one. Lookin at about 3 to 5 left, I guess. Def time for the 30x mag soon. Need some solid methods for the dry and cure, if anyone can shoot me a link, or give me a fast rundown. So many different ways, I dont wanna choose poorly, ya know. Thanks yall

harvest when they are just about ready, they finish the few days while they dry. Hang to dry in a warm, dry place with good ventilation, no direct fan on the plants though. Put them into jars or containers when the stems snap when bent.

Get yourself 2 flares, 1 gal of gas, a clothes hanger, and 4 toothpics haha. Just messing around. Its just like shovel said. I do use paperbags in between the hanging and jars. But thats just me. Just pay close attention when you jar them. They will mold if jarred too moist. But on the same note dont over dry them either. I recently bought a Caliber III to help with knowing the humidity in the jars. Takes a lot of guesswork out of it. Just something you might wanna check out

I would like to do somethin like that, but they havnt passed medical growing laws here yet, and I get lots of air traffic. Im growin about a 1/4 mile into some thick woods on my property, and cant get that much dirt, or other supplies back there. Dirt here is terrible, all sand n clay, so I would need to carry it all back. I started with 26 plants, and that was alot of haulin, with my arthritis ridden body. Lol. This is my first go round, and will def change/improve a few things. Thanks for the input man, keep it commin.

Wow that's funny, your bagseed plant looks exactly like my bagseed plant in the same stages, same conditions (north Carolina) and everything. Where I live, in Cackalackey, the biggest problem is insects. I've been spraying my plants with a homemade concaution that took the insects away but also the smell. Still can't get over how similar our plants are. (Same bagseed?)
Dirts/Ferts: Expert grow brand potting soil and fertilizer. Was the cheapest in both categories have yet to have any problems with them.

I havnt really had a bug problem. Been sprayin Home Defense on the ground around the buckets. Could be the same bagseed. Really dense, good bud, only a few seeds from a half. Im really happy with this grow. Only spent about $75. I went with cheap dirt, and MG, and had no probs either. Gonna be choppin the one in the pic in about a week. Rest in at least 2 to 3 weeks. How long till you harvest? Gotta get some pics up. Happy gardening, man!

My harvest is simply a question of "how done they get x how desperate I get". I thought I came up with an awesome plan, and wondered why no one does it. Took all my pictures from germ til buds on my iphone along with all the notes I would say when I post an entire grow log of the event and then I broke my phone. Guess that's why no one does that =/

:) What are you looking for in your trichs? 50/50? For mine I'm trying to get them as done as possible but with as many thick white trichs as I can get. What kinda of drying/curing processes you going to do? Think I'll water cure a few branches and see how that turns out.

I dunno bout the Carolina's, but down in southern Alabama its terrible. Just sand and clay.
Hemp: As far as the dry n cure method, i'm just dyring this one in a shoebox with string and hangin em, and puttin it in jars to cure. Gonna try to go at least 2-4 weeks cure.

On this plant I didnt look at trichs. Just went with overall look of the bud, and the amount of hairs that had changed. I think chopped at the perfect time. Perfect balance in the buzz. Im gonna go by the trichs on the other 8, I think. I dunno what ratio im gonna go with. Prob like 70/30. Dont want to much couch lock. Might let one or 2 go a bit longer. Prob another week, no more than 2 on the rest of em. How manydays into flower are you?

haha ignore my last post as i didn't realize there were more pages! hahah If I were you I'd harvest some with more cloudy then amber and let the others go to a little more amber than cloudy trichs. That way you have a mixture of that "head" high and "couch" high. Then you can see which you liked better for future references.

Hell yeah, I am def gonna harvest over the whole spectrum and see how it all goes. Quick dried a bud off my 3 topper I chopped today, and it is fuckin amazing. Cant wait till I get it dried and cured! Put the fitst one I chopped into jars today, so a few weeks I will give it a try. Thanks for the tips, dude!

Well, it is official.... I could not resist, and have started to germ seeds for an indoor grow. Nothin special, just some super good bagseed. Doin the grow at a friends place, cuz i didnt wanna do it here(kids) Just gonna do em in a closet with white walls. Gonna start em with cfl's, and add somethin else. Lookin for suggestions on a good, cheap light setup, so lay it on me, if ya dont mind. Using the same earth gro medium i just used on my outdoor run, cuz it seemed to do good. Gonna put em into beer cups, and transplant up from there. Thinkin bout changing up the fert on this one, and goin with something else other than MG. But we will see. I will start a new log when i get em into dirt and get some pics up that are worth posting. Thanks to all you guys that helped on the first go round, and hope you drop in on the new grow when its up n running. Dont wait on the suggestions for an indoor grow till i start the new log.
