people are quick to judge that wild hemp is automatically ditchweed. Or vice versa. I have discovered quite a bit of wild hemp in the last few summers. Ive found ditchweed and Ive found real marijuana plants. Let me discuss the difference. This summer, some of you will run into wild hemp plants.

the original hemp plant was suppose to grow tall and have many branches all over while still maintaining 12-20 feet in height. The problem for ancient farmers was that the energy it took to produce a natural hemp plant took away from the speedy growth of the trunk. So over time they manipulated a perfect farmers hemp plant that had minimal branch shoots so all of it's energy would be geared towards high and fast growth. They wanted the stalks and nothing more.

You will see the remnants of these plants all over the US. They will be tall with very few branch shoots and instead be bare naked except for the top foot of the plant. The top foot will have all the leaves. This is hemp, this is ditch weed.

A marijuana plant is gonna resemble a miniature christmas tree. The trunk will be full of branches. This plant is the original marijuana plant. Lets not forget just how many parties went on in the 70's. There were bound to be sowed seeds from many hippie parties.

So you ran into a small field of pot plants and you want to know if you can collect them. Well if the plants are endowed with branches and leaves then chances are you have found marijuana plants.

Obviously just finind the plants isnt all the work. Another term for ditch weed is a field of pot plants that had the males pollinate the females. You found the plants but the males took over the brood. The female plants saturated in pollen will use all their energy for seed production.

So you found marijuana plants before mid july. The males havent yet produced their pollen sacs yet. You are a lucky man/woman. Pluck the males. The males have 5 leaves, females have 7 leaves. Pluck every male. Probe a mile radius around your babies and jettison every male you can find. NOTE: alot of males start growing slow and thus you could miss a male. Go to the site once a week from late june to mid july to ensure you did not miss a male. Now you have turned future ditchweed into future ganja.

Now wait it out. This late fall you should be good to go.

You may want to be cautious on an approach like this; farmers can be extremely aggressive over their crops. A lot already have cars or motorcycles ordered waiting to cash in their crop to pay for these items. You may get lucky and miss the farmer a few times but believe me come harvest time he will be guarding his babies very closely, possibly camping nearby. If you are serious, sow your own seeds; do not be caught in some ones patch.
