New to Site

Good morning. As for a introduction, not sure what to put here. So, I'll give it a try....

Use to have a hydroponic system back in the 90's. Did fairly well, had a few nice strains, NL, Skunk, and the infamous Creeper ( i know some may think creeper is bs, but idk I liked it). Anywho, thinking about getting back into it possibly, based on the new laws occuring in my area. Never been into it for the $, just have a love of creating, and/or recreating various strains.

As you can read, its been a while since I've done anything regarding this. I have forgotton a bunch of information. And as we all know, technology and products one can use to assist have possibly changed greatly over the last 10 - 15 yrs. So am here to relearn I guess you could say, and to improve my understandings of new products and new equipment. :)

Thanks for the welcomes.. Sorry for my delayed reply. Life is busy, but fun takes up more time ;) Anywho.. I have noticed a lot of changes in the past day or two while trolling these forums. I guess the days of pvc, a little duct tape and the infamous auto sprinkler watering system are close to over (cept for the auto water sprinkler timer part) ;) lolz. Well maybe not that primative, but most get the idea. From what I have found thus far, I dont recall things like grow boxes (not that they weren't any back then {cuz I know someone that may of made a few or so lolz}) but commercialized fully equiped with everything you need. I don't believe those were around back then, or at least not in my area.

I do know a lil about hydro systems. Though back then, i used them only cuz of where I lived. It was cold half of the year, and the summers got to maybe 85 degrees F. 10 - 15yrs later, present time, have moved, much much warmer climent, never snows here, so am unsure if I should go to my roots. Or maybe try something a lil different. I know I can do a old school hydro system. But thinking maybe I'd try actual soil this time. I got some shake seeds gonna test on, I got time, so figure why not run as many tests as I possibly can. Till I figure out exactly what I want to do. Then once I have that nich, I'll get some worthy seeds and go from there.

Besides, statewise, my state just made "medical marijuana" legal not that long ago, prolly newest state added to list ;) Dispensaries are not operating yet, many things "could" possibly change. And theres nothing wrong with me other then occassionally i forget to take my daily med's of preperation H cuz I tend to be a arsehole lolz. So overall, currently its just a hobby that I'd like to make into a "pharmacy" later in future. I wouldn't want to own a dispensary, I think it may be to risky given the U.S. Federal Government and they're tendencies. If anything, I figure, if I can help people while making new strains, or recreating lost strains, WHAT COULD BE BETTER!?! lolz. So maybe just ya avg little caregiver kind of guy. Well thats enough rambling from me for one moment, time to go do some research on grow lights :) Have fun

Yup, so far there is. Since my first post and my last post. I have found many things different. From types of lights, to the spectras they produce to better understandings of spectras in general. Technology in that area alone has changed a great deal. I guess theres no more trying to steal parking lot lights lolz (joke, i would never do such a thing?). Though, what has caught my curiosity the most are some LED's. Though I have found many different name brands, but it just seems many are not as good as you would think they are for a LED type light. I've been tryn to find some kind of light that would work from seedling through flowering. I know blue's, oranges, and some red is good. But the ones I have found thus far, provide green's with blues OR red's, with some white and/or yellow and some other color in the sprectrum that isnt really needed. I dont need a huge light, just enough for testing, maybe something that could cover 2 sq'. If you by chance have a hint or a blues clue to help point me in a better "name branded or non name branded" direction for some "better quality" LED's I'd appreciate it :)

I can't really say who to go to for LEDs without being heavily biased, considering I design and manufacture LED panels.

I will tell you which ones to avoid, from personal experience and from reading customer criticisms. Kessils and HydroGrowLED. Kessils have horrendous failure rates, HGL is run by a scammer/snitch, ratted out someone on ICMag to the police, which resulted in their immediate ban and pulling of all HGL advertising from the site.

One thing you'll want to learn right now about LED - Anything more than 7 bands is typically wasteful, and most plants do well with just 2-4 bands, including cannabis. Of the seven bands, three are not in the visible range of human perception, and the other four are in red and blue only. Green is only a requirement for trees, from what I've been able to test. Don't fall for LEDs advertising the Emerson Effect without adequately explaining what it is - they're just marketing to you (ditto on the 9+ band lights I see out there.)

Also, avoid panels that are ultra-heavy on the red (typical 7:1:1 or 8:1 ratio) as you'll be sorely disappointed with the end results (not enough blue for bulk mass production.)

I appreciate your time. I may have to contact you after all. Don't know exactly when that will be. But it will be sometime in the future. Just dont sit around waiting for it, im to spontanious to give you a better time frame lolz. But ah, yeah.. I've been doing a lot of reading pertaining to LED's. I'm not gonna say which name brand(s)', but I've been reading some st00f. Some of these name brands I feel are throwing out marketing hype for they're products. For examplen, 400+% yeild increase? Seriously, I can understand a double increase "possibly".. But 4x? lolz, now I could end being laughed at and this could be true, but my brain just wants to laugh at the possiblity of pulling a double digit pounds off a plant lolz ie: Big Budz for example of a good yeilder. I've always thought greens would be best used for in dark viewing of your plants. Kinda like a night light cuz thats the color of the bulbs i use to use for my "night time" viewing back in the 90's. My only issue with green's in LED's is why should a panel have greens in it, that cost X amt, if I can go buy a few green bulbs for pennies for the same purpose lolz. I found a very long and greatly detailed thread by you regarding LED's from a year or so ago, couple hours ago. Good info pertains in that thread of yours. And here I thought I had some kind of great idea that no one has heard of before lolz

I've been hunting. From what I read, its definately the way to go. Though being where I am currently, my ideal grow room isnt going to be happening for a long while. Only cuz I love having space, space to move around, space to clown around. So for the time being a couple plants in a 2 sq' x 5'h space is all I have to work with. Till I move in a year ;) But for the space I do have now, I think those are a definate plus. Only cuz, in that small amount of space, with most lighting options, it will become very hot, very quickly even with fans, and a humidor and etc. Though, being I'm use to hydro systems and I'm trying soil this time. (i know i could search or post in proper location for this question) Is it possible for the soil to get to hot and cause harm to plants? The hydro systems ive had in the long distant past the resevoir that flushed the system was set to the water heater and it would flush and recycle every few days at 63 degrees and by the time it was flushed out and recycled it never got above 72 degrees. As for soil, well.. I'm confused lolz.
