1099 Employee Drug Test

Hello,
Im in the process of being hired by a company as a 1099 employee and was wondering if they could give me a pre employment drug test. Because Im not an employee of this company and Im independant can they do this? Thanks for any help in advance

Asking a freelance professional to take a drug test before being given work is really unorthodox. If I were you, I'd tell them that. And that there is absolutely no reason for them to question your integrity especially since you aren't going to be a permanent employee. Tell them to save their money and let you do what they need you to do. If they say that they won't give you the work without the drug screen, ask them if they would drug screen an electrician before fixing an electrical problem? Would they drug screen a photographer before letting one take pics for ads? Would they drug screen a landscaper before letting him start on the landscaping? Unless it's safety or security related it just doesn't make sense....and it's a waste of time....just my 2....

I believe you can be tested depending on the location or type of work you are doing. If the location is a facility that stores drugs, explosives or other similar items or if you will be driving a vehicle you will probably be tested. If you are stacking sacks of onions or picking cherries or other manual labor you probably will not be tested. If using dangerous equipment you may be. There are probably many more reasons why you could be tested so be prepared.
