View Full Version : Grow a Pound the 319 way

Strain: Nirvana Ice x 4
Soil: MG Organic Soil
Nutes: Earth Juice ?? Bushmaster ?? Superthrive ?? CalMag

600 hps (Flower)
4x4

T5 8 Bulb (Veg)
2x4
7 gal pots.

I've been growing for a few years now. I don't consider myself to be a master grower just a seasoned one. I usually have a 400 hps bare-bulb halfway down, with my 600 above, but in order to upgrade to my new (not this one) setup the I had to sell it. Sadly this will be my last grow in old setup. Oh, well on to the grow.

The plan of attack will be:

Veg for about 9 weeks, then flower for about 8-10 weeks. How I top, train and prune will be included. My veg period is about 9 weeks reason being that I have two tents, so I have to wait an extra week for the PPP that's growing in there now to dry. I've never grown Ice before, it states 8-10 week flowering period so my guess is about 9 weeks of flower.

Honestly I know that the first few weeks if not the whole vegetative period will be boring, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible not only for my records but for the many new/novice growers that are out there. So I will cover from beginning to end. So sorry for all of you picture whores out there that just want to see bud porn from seed to flower. But hopefully any new grower could follow this thread and grow a pound. If that could happen then I would be a very, very happy person.

Vegetative setup:
T5 8 Bulb, I really wish I would have bought a 600MH for my vegetative tent. Reasons why, I know that my plants would have faster growth with a 600MH on for 18 hours compared to my T5 and I would only pay 2 dollars more a month. Grow Light Operating Cost - Greentrees Hydroponics (http://www.hydroponics.net/learn/hid_lamp_op_cost.asp)
I know that many people would debate me on this, but I feel that the amount of heat that the T5 8 bulb produces, I could have dealt with the MH for a fraction of the cost.

Pots;
I use 7 gallon pots for a few reasons. When compared to the growth and time involved with re-potting once or twice a grow, well lets just say there's no comparison. But I must say that there are benefits to using different pot sizes, maybe if the grower uses a stronger medium every step or a medium more advantageous to the phase of growth that there in (SUBCOOL). Anyway, also I like the fact that the pots are 12? round and with my 600hps light in a 4x4 tent I know that keeping the pots touching or very close together that they're receiving 50 watts per sq. foot. Lastly I use 5 gallon paint buckets as drip trays when I water once a week. Outside of the initial setup (putting the seeds in the dirt) the watering is the most time consuming part of growing. So I'll place the pots in the buckets, then water, let sit for a day then remove. So the watering process takes about 15 minutes. There's no need to move the plants to another location (bathroom or kitchen) minimizing time away from light, potential damage that could occur during the move or anything else that could happen. Also with the 7 gallon buckets if your watering correctly you only need to water once a week.

Nutes and stuff;
Before I switched to Earth Juice I have used Fox Farm, Advanced and GH. Honestly I like them all. Fox Farm & GH because of the simplicity and Advanced because of the way you can tailor each feeding program to suit the strain your growing. With none really the better then the other. But me being in college, working full-time, having a girlfriend, wife on the side (jk) and a dog my life is a little busy. Like I said above I was spending a lot of time watering and PH'ing. I don't know how it is where some of you grow, but where I'm at my water seems to change with the seasons from 7-8.8 and it made it impossible to come up with a one time ??PH issue solver?? lol

So I looked around and found out that a lot of growers were having success with bubbling and not PH'ing EJ. I decided two years ago to give it a try and well I haven't looked back. My yields are about the same give or take a few grams, but worth the extra time saved. Besides anyone that has smoked soil grown organic cannabis knows that there is no comparison. IMO, HA

Bushmaster: is used seldom when I feel that the plant is going to stretch beyond my tent capabilities. I've had this bottle for probably a year so that should give you an idea of how much I use it.

Neem Oil: Everyone should it all the time. Doesn't matter the brand. Just use it. You can never have to much cow bell.

Superthrive: Not necessary but I use it.
Moisture Meter (Get one)
Marijuana Garden Saver (Book) ← Buy this!

Updates;
Picture updates more then likely will be once maybe twice a week.

Germination:
Day 1:
Paper towel method has always worked for me. Wet paper towel, cover and forget for 48 hours. Once taproots are 1? in length prep dirt. Water soil with 24oz of water, place into dirt leaving seed (Husk) above dirt, taproot down. Sometime using this method at 48 hours your first set of leaves (cotyledon ) might be starting to show. Just gently place them in dirt. My T5 is running on only 4 bulbs at the moment until first set of leaves appear.

Well I hate it when people start logs and never finish them. I'm sorry that I haven't updated this in awhile but I've been having some security issues and I kind of have to leave it at that.

When I first started this I wanted to show others how I top, FIM and train my plants in order to grow a pound. But this will have to turn into more of a visual diary then a tutorial and I apologize. I am throwing in my PPP grow from now. They are about 3 weeks old give or take a few days. Enjoy the pics and I hope to get a better camera in the next month.

Any questions feel free.

Day off work, spending some time with my plants, pruning the lower growth getting high and just looking at them, things like that. I know that I have said that I don't do it in the past and I don't per-say. Since I water roughly once a week, the plants naturally select the weakest leaves to wilt. This enables me to identify what leaves need to be removed.

Any gardener will experience wilt at one point. I believe that this is the plant letting you know that; I am not going to produce major flowers here, I don't mind if I lose these leaves, so on and so fourth.

Outdoor gardeners know and practice removing dead foliage once the light can no longer penetrate (Support) the lower growth.

You can see from the close ups that the plants experienced a slight burn. So I'll water for a week and more then likely resume normal dosing.

I went into my local garden center to buy Hi-Brix, but they were out. So I picked up dry molasses (See pic), just giving it a try. I put around 10oz in each pot also put in a little bit of top soil. I'll keep you posted on the results. The smell of this actually is worth it. EJ has a.. well smell to it. An organic matter smell that a lot of people can't stand. This molasses brings in a sweet smell to the garden.

A few baby bud shots..

By the way, Ill continue this grow log for some time. I've been reading a lot about the new organic hydro lines coming out. I've been thinking about a DIY DWC buckets or Ebb n Flow.

One of the Ice plants is looking great and I will probably run her as a mother for a year. Who knows for sure. But be on the look out for an hydro organic grow in about two months.

The 4 biggest have been FIM a few times at this point, in another week or two these plants will be monsters.

Received my new 4x4 tent in the mail, and pretty much everything else. Setting all of that stuff up tonight. Decided to go with another 4x4 tent instead of a 4x8 tent. Figured for my setup this will allow me to control the canopy better. So now I have (2) 4x4 tents with 600hps ballast (1) 2x4 tent with t5 8 bulb. Turning this thing into a harvest every month or so.

Side note bought "Gardening Indoors with Soil & Hydroponics" by George Van Patten and it seems to me that this is the same book as the Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible" Jorge Cervantes. Even though I'm a bit pissed about that, it does go more into organics and all of that. It's an alright book so far.

See ya' in a few days for a better post.

I really did plan on having this thing laid out nicely. well.. so much for that. :wtf:
So I guess this is just a log of a lot of random shit going on.. lol.

I have about a month left in flower. The veg tent is looking nice, plants are responding well to topping. Damn bulb was broke during shipping.

Should have my new tent up and running I guess by Tuesday, but we will see. Enjoy.

Welp... gotta head to work in a few hours for 3 doubles in a row. So wanted to post a few pictures of the plants.

Two of these Ice plants are looking down right terrible. Just slow growers and I figure I have about 4 more weeks of veg. The PPP should be done by June 20 something and another week to dry.

So I'm going to cull those two and continue FIM'n and hoping for a 1/2 pound out of these two.

I've been doing a lot of reading about LED's lately. Who knows what's going to come of it. But just running things through my head. Looking at x4 500w blackstar lights, If figure I could run these every summer and not have to run my ac? Just a thought on it. The hydro thing is really weighting on me also.

Honestly I don't want to give up my nutrient line just for whatever I hoping to gain from hydro.

Also a lot of people seem to have issues with there gardens. I really recommend the Marijuana Garden Saver. You will never have to ask another question again.

I hope people are somewhat enjoying this tread... Its a little dead in here.

Not ready to go to work!

 I'm watching and enjoying.
Quick question...How big are the pots you have your vege plants in there and what sort of size pot would you flower them in? I ask as I'm moving away from my smaller sog size plants now and starting to practise different training techniques. This means longer veging time and bigger plants - so I need to rethink my pots.

Been followin too....

Read you said your thinking about LEDs.... I'm sure you've heard the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".... I don't want to offend anyone but LEDs haven't impressed me enough to put my HPS lamps up for sale....

And the hydro thing, if you decide to grow hydro, you'll only go back to soil IF you have to....can't wait to go back to hydro....

Cangroit- I just can't get past the yields using hydro. But I do like how personal it is with soil, doesn't seem that way to me. I like getting my hands dirty. But more then likely I will switch to NFT or DWC. Thanks for following.

Weeddaddy- You can lower the rating if you want. This is the internet and only my internet feelings would be hurt.

Well sorry for the late reply having a busy week. I ordered some new stuff that was suggested by a another member. Great White & liquid Karma are the new products that I'll throw into this grow, just following the label nothing fancy.

I also picked up a Daisy Cloner 8, 3 days so far no roots. I am just using PH'd water, I know that they recommend using all sorts of stuff but just seeing if water will work for now. Also the huge pump that they have in the small res. is definitely warming the water not sure on how this might effect growth. If anyone has use this with good results let me know, PM or post. Thanks.

I also picked up another air pump and 5 gal bucket, I am going to experiment with 2 smaller waters a week. First water will be an all bacteria water and the 2nd will be feeding those bacteria and microbes. So I'm really looking forward to all of this.
Now if you read my other thread I'm almost 100% sure that Ill be making the switch to coco more then likely to sunshine #4 for the next few grow. Hopefully I can build a medium that will dry out in 3-4 days.

As far a cloning goes....I used a cloning machine for over a year with good success, but I am back to the dome and rock wool and clonex.....faster roots....easier to plant and hardly lose a plant. if done right almost 100% success.

Good luck....your pictures are very nice.

No hard feelings I was just joking. I have also stated that I wanted this log to be more detailed and organized then what it is. But maybe the one after this or that one.

Just scoped the trichomes I have a few very cloudy about to turn amber so I believe harvest for two of the ladies will be due on the 29th. This will put me at 10 weeks for the PPP, the other two are a week behind that.

I figure that Ill throw the Ice in flower around the 15th of July so I guess 10 weeks after that we will have or harvest.

I also had one of the plants go hermi weeks ago its had weird growth from the start. It's my first hermi ever. I will post some pictures of what the plant looks like in a few days. Since its just me who smokes this I could care less if my buds were seeded or not. But it seems that I caught it early, snipped the balls off and it didn't pollinate any plants in the tent. Like I said it was my first time with a hermi and I wanted to experiment. But I was afraid that there were going to be balls inside the buds.

The daisy cloner 8 already clogged once for about 4 hours. Cleaned it out plants sprang back to life still no roots or bumps but I'm going to give it 10 days. The big pump and small res cause the water to run a little warm.

Growloco, thanks man. Be on the lookout for Growloco grow. He's been giving me a lot of sound advice.

Ill post pics tomorrow, of the PPP new supplies and the 12/12 log.

Well I've been debating back in fourth if I'm going to do hydro. I decided to scrap this grow but not the log. My 12/12 from seed will continue, I'll probably do a few more soil grows until I run out of EJ. I have 8 new clones in the cloner first ones turned out great.

I have so far:
4x4 tray
(2) 396 pumps
PPM meter
ph meter basic hana model

What else do I need?
Hydrotron
Pots (What size, if flowering nine?)
Res size?
Anything else let me know!

I would like to flower 9 plants. How long of a veg period would you use with 9 plants in a 4x4 under 600w? How often would I water these plants per day?

What is a good organic hydro line?

I'll purchase some more stuff tomorrow, looking into buying some sort of veg station either dwc or a smaller top drip... I dont know. Got the latest product mag in my hand and 75 cents in the other.

I hope these plants will be ready to be flowered around the 20th of July. Stay tune and help this hydro-newbie out!!

A lot of this might not make any sense, I have a lot of reading ahead of me these next few days. Ahh Cannabis how do I luv thee.

Ok.. figuring some thing out. I believe I'll use 2 gallon pots with hydroton. flooding 15min 4 times a day like tinytoon suggested on my previous post.

Don't have the nutes down just yet but organicare is looking very nice. I know many people have had problems with earth juice bloom and grow in hydro but are you able to use there additives with success or should I look into the whole organicare line?

I'm going use my veg tent to hold my master kush mother, ice mother and granddaddy purple mother. Ill have my cloner in there. Once 9 plants are cloned transfer into ebb n flow. Run about 2-4 weeks veg then flip. How does that sound? I know I'll have to dial somethings in but trying to get an estimate on the veg time.

I'll probably save some power buy switching to a T5 4 bulb 2 foot, and a dual T8 2 foot light strip for my clones.

Anyway, Ill probably be up all night trying to sort this out.

welp.. after a night of reading different logs and labels. I decided to go with fox farm. For my first hydro grow I figure the investment will be worth it.

I'm going to follow their chart:

So tomorrows buy/do list:
RO system
Fox Farm
Pots
Build a PVC stand
And update both logs with pics.

Anyway let me get back into the lab working some big things out.

I'm interested to see how you go switching to hydro, I've only done soil so far so it'll be a good thing to watch and learn.

Rattlingsdags, thanks for keeping up with this grow. I have good amount of equipment for the small space that I'm in and my girl is complaining about all of my shit. I believe hydro will help me scale back, no more bags of soil, earthworm casting etc that it really takes to grow great organic bud. I will say this though if I had a place in the country or a big fenced back yard I would stay organic.

I really can't wait to get into this hydro thing. I'm planning on head to head nutrient shootouts, maybe I can find some members to help me grow using there favorite brand? I figure I'm coming from EJ nutes and I have no relationship with any hydro-nute company and I think its time for growers to see who is the best of the best between these high dollar nutrient companies. I did call Advanced today and their customer service wasn't the best.

I would like to test a three part series vs. a multi-series nutrient such as Fox Farm or GH vs. Advanced Connoisseur or Humboldt master program. I can't really say when this might happen but I can for see it happening within the next 3 grows.

I just want to get the jitter bugs out of my system, not saying that I should be a hydro master in 3 grows, but at least I won't be so nervous.

I have some very good strains coming in and I have some top notch strains around me Super Lemon Haze, Purple Haze, Ice of course, and OG Masterkush. I really want to get two more mothers just to have on standby maybe C99 this DJ Short Blueberry that I was able to track down.

I did harvest two of the PPP today I don't like to weight wet but they are looking very nice. The other two one being the Hermi have close to 10 days left. Did a quick dry on a few lower buds and the high is satisfying.

I'll probably stop this log after everything is cured and weight stated and start a log dedicated to hydroponics. Right now I still need to get another 4x4 tray new reflector and a few more odds and ends. I really want to get some more air moving within the tents. Thinking about mounting, two, larger circulating fans in each tent. If anyone has suggestions let me know. Upgrade my all of my inline fans to 8? moving two 4?inline fans to intake, sealing the tents passive intakes still not sure if light was leaking into the tents that way.

Let me first say that Organic is purely a marketing term as it is used now days - the original definition of organic is simply 'contains carbon.' Show me a non-organic plant - impossible.

I've had fine results using a bare-assed 3-part series from GH and AN. Both companies truly don't have half a clue about true nutrient requirements for multiple plant types, though I've demonstrated mixtures to both companies. They just ignore real science and keep on going with their marketing (like Advanced Nutrient's BS about phosphor overload - learn basic biology, nimrods! ATP is CRITICAL for plant energy and ignoring it during bloom is a stupid STUPID mistake.)

319

Khyberkitsune, I feel you on the organics thing. I'm not one of those people that say organics is all that and a bag of chips.. ha, but I will say that the cannabis that I have smoked that was grow hydro seemed harsh.

I know through reading that this could be because of improper flush or maybe you can't get past that with hydro. I don't know enough just yet to say if this is true. I do know when I do make the switch my plants I will give a very proper flush towards the end, hoping to avoid this.

Like I said before the reason why I switched to organics really why I switched to earth juice is the ph reason. I also enjoy soil grown cannabis more synthetic or organic. But I'm going to give this hydro thing a shot!

Also has anyone used GH hardwater nutes? Attempting to get past installing a RO system in my small place. Also I've been reading more about the Lucas Formula in hydro. Less clutter = happy girlfriend!

My water is 300ppm. Does anyone use water in hydro this hard, if so what nutes do you use?

Thanks

Sorry for the delay.

Two of the PPP are curing at the moment, can't wait until the 4th to blaze it. The Hermi and the runt are still in the tent. The hermi (the tall one on the left) looks like she will yield well. The runt just hasn't looked good from the start. The reason why these two plants are behind are because of this plant. I wanted to give her more time to mature and didn't want to deal with three different nutrient cycles for four plants.

But looking back on things I should have thrown all of them in at the same time, my nerves are being tested, as I want to get my hydro equipment in there.

Also I ordered seeds from Nirvana and Single Seed Center last week, I received the SSC beans already, still waiting on Nirvana but it should arrive sometime this week.

After these are done I plan on turning this tent into ebb n flow with 1 plant per square foot. 16 plants. Harvest every 8-10 weeks.

I plan on keeping the other tent soil so some time. I'll probably break the table down half or quarters and try to harvest either 4 plants every two weeks or 8 plants every four weeks. A total of 16 plants would be on this tray also.

I like the idea of having a lot of strains to smoke, I also like the fact of having one tent produce a large harvest a few times a year and the other given me alot of little harvest a year.

How does 16 per 4x4 sound?

Sorry for the lack of good pictures this round.

Just read through the whole thread, nice log 319. I planned on growing years back and was very close, but never went through with it for various reasons. Now I'm planning on starting my first grow, so I'm trying learn everything I can.

Thanks for not dropping the log even though you're changing things up. Threads like these are good for me to pick up on things. The more I know the better, I figure.

I'll be following this log. Great work, keep it up, and good luck!

wash, that was my intentions of this log. But things have/are changing, I am never satisfied with my grow setup. I am a bigtime grower, but only allotted 32 sq. ft per my girl. lol..

You give me a four light garden and I would only be satisfied for a year. I guess its just the way I am.

But I hope to have something worked out soon that would be better then a pound of weed.

How is washington in regards to MJ? Is it similar to CA? I thought about making that move west, but cali seems loaded with growers/cloners and everything else. Is it like that there? Do you have dispensaries that growers sell to? I have a lot of questions and would like to pick your brain. Let me know if you have time to chat one day.

where im from, its not like cali. Im on the east side of the state and dispensaries are illegal. Occasionally theres a craigslist post about cuttings/meds but other than that its black market. Seems like all the herb that is grown here is sold to the west side of the state, and the herb that is smoked here is imported. Fucked up system we got going but thats life

PPP looks like it wants to finish, but still a little way to go. I should yield around 6-8 between these two left. But the runt is... well, still looking runtish! She looks to be around two weeks behind. I have grown pretty much everything nirvana currently has and this strain has def giving me the most problems. One hermi and two lagers!!

I was talking to Loco about why I chose to run these strains. Well besides ppp I've ran a skunk, northern light, white widow, jack her, a few other classic strains. I know that there a tons of "better" newer strains out there. But I hate it when I smoke c99xhaze and people speak about they can taste the haze or smell the skunk. And I really don't know shit about that. I envy you guys in Cali. :wtf:

I wanted to get a firm understanding of the basic/classic strains that really make up most of the strains today. I have a purple haze that I'm going to run soon, and then after I'm going to mess with DNA bank and cali connection.

i feel to truly understand where your going you have to know where you came from. Plus I can see in the near future getting into the breeding aspect of things. I want to do a lot more reading in regards to my sleep problems and anxiety issues and find a strain that best suits me.

Peace

Nice plants brother! I'm on day number two of my first grow with a bean I pulled out of one of my baggies till I get some cash to drop on a nice system and some good strains. You get most of your beans from nirvana? I was looking at a few sites but thinking of going with nirvana as well. Also for my setup I was thinking about combining a couple big cardboard boxes I have with 4 t-5 warm white lights in each corner and a cool white cfl over head or a closet I have but the closet is my wife's property and doesnt want me moving any clothes so therefor i'd be forced to grow with some clothes in it, lol. But right now I have my seedling in a small planter with some basic MG potting mix on my deck outside and plan on moving it inside once I set up. I used a 1/5 hydrogen peroxide and 4/5 filtered and distilled water solution when I first stuck the seed in the soil and have been watering when soil feels dry. Am I doing alright so far and any tips for a newbie like myself?

The high is great but short lived 1.5 hr. You can feel it in your face (temple) and body. Doesn't have that dank smell that I like, a little on the lighter side. I can't really judge on taste because its still fairly new. I've been sitting around the past few hours smoking a reading, so it suits me well..

My girl and I have smoked three bowels in the past 8 hours and were heavy smokers. Don't know if that would help gauge anything.

The yield wasn't amazing on the 4. The hermi gave me fluffy buds, the runts lost a little on that one. The other two were the best yielding without a doubt. But I must say for a strain that is marketed because of the yield I wasn't impressed. I will let you know the true outcome in about a week when everything should be semi-cured.

I also must say that some of the problems I was running into were of some fault of my own, but I will correct those this time around. The ice clones are looking very promising.

I can say I'm satisfied but not impressed, but I wouldn't recommend growing PPP to anyone. I think there white widow, northern lights and wonder woman are better, much better. Looking forward to the ice, then on to purple haze.

I'll keep you guys posted on when everything goes down. It will probably be in 10-14 days before I start as I just found out that my cooltube has a crack in the glass. So I'm looking for another one right now. I might try one of those Raptors but who knows.

Also I posted about the Daisey Cloner 8. Please do not buy that piece of shit!! I just build a 36 site cloner for 50 bucks. The Daisey has one spinning top that will clog. I didn't lose any clones because of it, but it was still a pain to clean out twice a week.

Ill be back tomorrow, the man has me on a swing shift and back to work I go for another 16. Have a goodnight.

 It really has been a great grow to follow. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to post it up, I've thoroughly enjoyed tagging along.

If you like dank smell then you'd probably like the Afghan Kandahar I grow - its rich pong is like throwing all the spices in a spice shop on the floor, rolling around in it and then running through a thick forest lol. I love it.

It'd be great if you do a log with the ice and then the purples are very beautiful too. I've been tossing up for ages whether or not to try growing a haze so a log from you growing a purple haze would be really interesting.

Happy smoking! It'll only get better over time and something to look forward to after work :)

I have no idea about gluing boxes together. But I would look into home depot 2x2's or 2x4's, panda film and velcro from ebay and build it if you can. But if not and you think you can make the boxes light proof then go ahead and do your thing! The T5 will flower your buds just fine. There are great T5 grows across the net.

I do use MG soil, but I add earthworm castings, perlite, vermiculite, humic and fulvic acid to the soil. This time around I plan on going overboard on the soil additives and amendments. I've been reading a lot about amino acids for your plants. I'm unsure of how inorganic or organic they are.

If you do decided to buy from Nirvana look into their White Widow or Northern Lights. They were probably my favorites to grow. I would also order them from Single Seed Centre, as you can order one seed if need be and the price is cheaper. I will check your log out, hope you stick with it. Thanks for reading, Friend.

Thanks for following along. The next one will be better.. Promise!

Rattingdags,
You and tiny have been here since I started this log. Thanks for keeping me company and welcoming me to this board. Much respect! The purple is being cared for by a friend at the moment, I also received Ladyburn 1974 and a few other freebies. Their clones should be ready to flower in 2 cycles, 16 weeks give or take. I'm going to look into that Afghan, I've always wanted to try a good diesel and an Afghan. The ice is almost ready, should be ready to flower in about 10 days.

I recently bought ??Sea of Green the Perpetual Harvest? book and it is a very interesting read. I probably could of found this information by searching the net, but I think it's good to have books as reference, I'm kind of old-school in that regard.

I just reconfigured my veg tent to hold 36 in the cloner, 4 mothers and 24 clones in soil. I need to get a larger a/c installed, its getting hot in here!! Looking around for a cheap 10k btu.

I'm going to combine my other grow with the new one (log). Probably won't update that one for a few days, then throw them together. You can considered this log finished. I want to start anew!!

Thanks to everyone the popped there head in here! Like I said things will be better next time around.
