Hi,
Long time reader 1st time poster.
SWIM is growing some blue cheese in coco and having a few problems, please see pics attached.
Background:
22 days old from seed. Height ~4 "- AS SEEN IN PICS
Medium: Straight coco
Temp: between 24- 28 C
Humidity: Low have no RH meter- mist with pure water twice per 24 hrs, but because of ventilation and fan not much build up.
Light: 250W CFL, initially 3- 4 " away- suspected light burn so raised it to 8" above.
Pot size: 9"
Water: Tap water left for 24hrs to try to reduce chlorine, ph ~7, (NO UP OR DOWN AVAILABLE) Watered by hand ~ 250ml per 24 hours- get 10 % runoff
Nutrients Used: Ionic Coco: formulex, grow, bloom, boost. Superthrive.
Feeding Schedule from seedling:
1st 3 days- IN SMALL PAPER CUP SIZED POTS. little watering of plain water
Days 4-6: Water with formulex solution. 5ml/litre
Day 7: Roots showing through first pots so transfered to 9" pots- no water/feed
Day8-9: Water with formulex solution 5 ml/liter ~250 ml until runoff
DAY 10 WHEN THE PROBLEMS BEGIN: Slight wilting of 2 plants- so took action (regrettably) Changed Feed to 5ml/litre Ionic Grow ~250ml/ 10% Runoff (I BELIEVE I MAY HAVE SHOCKED THEM HERE???)
Days11-13: Continued to feed 5ml/litre ionic grow. Plants looked to recover (No wilting)
Day 14: WATER FLUSH
Day 15-16:Stupidly up'd food to 10ml/ liter. Plants showed yellowing of leaves
Day 17: WAter Flush to try to recover
DAy 18-19: Ionic Grow 7ml/ liter- showing signs of nute burn/ light burn. MOVED LIGHT UP
DAy 20-22: WAter FLush- 250 ml per pot twice per day- EC steadily decreasing from 1.8 to now 1.2
PLEASE HELP/ THOUGHTS???

No responses?
I'm looking for some advise as to if they are ok/ showing signs of recovery/ how long to continue flushing for etc.
Any help would bee appreciated.

The Ph range for Coco is 5.8 - 6.3 (most people including myself use 5.8) You need to get a PH meter or some PH strips to get the PH right, your plants are not going to do well if they are not in the right PH range to absorb the right nutrients.

A couple of other things I noticed. You have flushed them 3 times in 7 days, they could be just showing signs of overwatering. Also... Measuring outgoing PH and EC in coco is not worth doing afaik. Because PH and EC readings are affected by small particles in the coco. You just have to measure what you put in.
I think I can see 7 plants in one of the pictures. 1x250w CFL will not produce enough light to grow 7 plants. You wil just get lots of small popcorn buds all over the plants, instead of fat buds.
hope this helps...

yeah that does help :),
i'll save some time n just measure the ingoing feed/water, still need to get a ph meter tho.
correctamondo, there are 7 plants, the CFL is for vegging, i plan on using a 600w HPS for flowering... will that work or do i still need more light for vegging?
i thought over watering was hard to do in coco, but nice one i'll keep an eye out for signs... I was just trying to flush the system from the nute burn hence the frequency.

Just from those pics, it looks like they're not getting enough nutes, believe it or not. Pale green and slight yellowing of the interveinal areas indicates low nitrogen. If you think EC of 1.8 is too much, how about trying the middle ground at 1.5? I don't see the yellowing that you thought was nute/light burn. Fert burn usually starts at the tips of the leaves and works its way towards the middle of the leaf and stem. I don't think you're going to see light burn from CFL. That usually happens with real hot bulbs, like sodium and MH. Other than that they look good. Great start.

Yes Polish :), glad to hear from u, u seem to know your stuff from reading the boards... cheers for the encouragement too.
I was thinking about maybe a lack of nutes could also be the problem, just no reference to go off other than here. nute burn seemed the obvilous solution as i rushed the introduction of nutes, and went over the stated amount on the bottle.
I've attached 3 close up pics of the suspected nute burn affected areas, apologies for the res.
Q. I was planning to continue just water for a day or 2, to recover from the nute burn, Just to clarify, from what u recommend would it be advisable to go back to a nute solution of EC1.5?
Also, should i lower the light again to ~3" above?
I'm know that u cant give exact advise as with all things in life it depends on individual circumstances and its best to see how things develop and adjust accordingly, just looking for some other input to swap ideas etc.
Just looking to get a nice healthy mother and some good bud to smoke.
Much appreciated.

Nute burn affects the tips of the leaves, it doesn't look like nute burn.

Muchos gracias, what do u think would caue the burn/ yellowing... ph?
Cheers for tha feedback brothaman

Thanks for all the help Jay and Pollack:thumbsup:
just to clarify from the 3 close up pics the yellowing at the tips is not nute burn and likely to be a nute def. or lock out due to high ph?
so revert back to feed solution or continue to flush?

That little 'bite' taken out of the leaf is from the fans bouncing the leaf edge on either another plant, or against the pot. (a canna-bruise)
The washed-out appearance looks more like overwatering than nutrient deficiency. But, you're giving nutrients, so it's likely that it's overwatering. Overwatering stresses the roots and they'll stop doing their job properly. (uptaking nutrients, air and water) Cannabis prefers a wet-dry cycle, so do not keep the soil wet. If you continue overwatering, (flushing every couple of days, for instance) you might end-up with root rot.
Coco retains salt. A monthly flush releases these salts so they don't build-up and kill roots. A lot of plant nutrients contain or are comprised of...salts.

Cheers guys,
Ive just acquired a ph meter and up and down so ill adjust my nutrient solution.
Rusty: Thanks for addressing the 'bite' issue.
With regards to overwatering, would you recommend that i let them dry a little before resuming ph adjusted nutrient solution. I didnt think overwatering was possibly with coco, but thanks for the info, i dont want to continue damaging them. The water flush was because i thought they were suffering nute burn
I'll give them a feed a post an update, hopefully signs of recovery
Thanks again

If I don't know what's in it, I refuse to use it. Superthrive might be fine for some plants, but I smoke the cannabis I grow with my wife (who has been on chemo every two weeks for the past 8 years) and would never intentionally let her smoke concentrated hormones, steroids or hemorrhoids, or whatever's in that mystery goop.
If you're using a solid nutreint product or line, Superthrive shouldn't be necessary anyway.

I have some 5 week old's that are doing the exact same thing, I gave them a dose of superthrive upon transplant but no other nutrients until yesterday when I did a foliar spray after reading this thread.

Since everyone's growroom conditions are different, please start your own thread and fill-out the troubleshooting form. The link to the form is in my signature. Copy-n-paste-n-answer the questions as best you can.

You're trying to control this grow too much.
Distilled water over tap.
Use nutes that have all the fert elements plants needs (there's between 11 and 16 of them).
Adviseable to use ferts that require less control. Foxfarm fruit and flower, 1/2 cup for every two gallons of potting soil. Just add water when necessary.
