Week 7 - Veg
Made some changes to my "ventilation system" due to some heat issues,
Since it's kinda hot here nowadays 32C, my cabinet temp reached 34C.
I've added 2 more Computer fans to my cabinet, 1 for intake and 1 for inner ventilation.
I'm still wondering if i've got enough light.
Bought a few days ago 2 another CFL from amazon, Feliz 125 Watt CFL Grow Light 2700K (http://www.amazon.com/Feliz-Watt-Grow-Light-2700K/dp/B003EWN904/ref=pd_sim_ol_2).
It seems "Bubba" is growing well but not as fast as i would like it to be.

Before entering the flowering phase, i've taken 3 clones, hope they'll survive.
http://boards.cannabis.com/members/jambojones-albums-growlog1-picture274962-img-0805.JPG
I've installed my Feliz 125W 2700K CFL, it doesn't look as bright as i tought it would be, I wonder how much lumen it really has, each web site claims a different number from 5000lumen-10000lumen,
Anyone with previous experience can give me a clue?
anyhow, switched the lights today to 12/12, let the blooming begin!!
These pictures were taken yesterday, the lame quality because it was taken with my phone.

P.S
Regarding the flowering phase, should i count the flowering days from the 12/12 first day or the first day i see white pistils????

Flowering Day 28
Had to do some changes (again!?!?@?#$) in my cabinet, removed 4 T5 due to a serious heat issue, and since i've been away for 3 days, i had to make the problem disappear.
Plant had some CFL burn on the main cola, and some of the buds :(
BTW I've acquired HPS 400W, been thinking of installing it tomorrow for the rest of the flowering period.
Well, enough with the bullshit.

I have no doubt that the HPS is better, but i chose CFL because of the size of my cabinet, and as i mentioned in my log, I've got shit load of them, but the heat problem seems to be the same,
so i'm going to connect the HPS KIT today and check how does it effect the cabinet.

Ya bro i think you have a good point there cause you will deff get alot of heat with a h,p,s in your set up. I have some thing simalor to you with my set up and i had to get a cooltube and squirl cage fan to keep the heat down. So id say keep doing what your doing now as its doing a great job so far and keep the h,p,s for your next grow.

HI BRO
Sounds like you have it all worked out nice one. You will deff get a better yeild with that set up the only thing i would advis is try get some thing that shows you your humidaty because thats one thing i didnt do in my last grow and it killed half my plants over the humidaty was way to hi. That been said the way you have fans for your intake and outgoing you should be alright. As for the pic,s of your leaves it could be many things from not enough light on the bottom leave to the nutes but i have leaves that look the same and i dont think it was much to worry about not at this stage any way maybe if it gets worst. When your in the flowering stage you will see your leaves go like that any way. Are you fluseing your plants every one or two weeks if not you should think about doing it cause it will deff help. O ya you start counting from the time you but the lights on 12=12 not when you see the hairs bro. Well i hope i helped some bit as i said before im only here to learn and give help when i can myself. Take it easy bro.

First of all, Thanks alot for them advices.
Regarding the HUMIDITY meter, i have a TEMP/HUMIDITY meter, and my humidity varies from 20%-50% most of the time at about 35%.
I have to open the cabinet a bit because the heat raised to 30.5C, now it's about 29.5C, and it's fine.

Well, my friend thanks for the feedback, but i came this morning to check out what's going on with the "lady" and saw a light damage to the main cola :(:(:(:(
275840
It seems like the lamp was too close, as mentioned before, 12.5K lumen sq/f on the main cola was too much for her...
SO! i made quick modification to the cabinet, i sawed two beams of wood 11cm high,
and raised the cabinet to 1.01m high! i've tested the light source for half an hour to see how much light it will receive tonight and it seems ok.
I'm wondering, should i trim these damaged leafs?
I hope this modification help me prevent further damage.
we'll see tonight!
deeproots
05-28-2011, 12:36 AM
Ya jambo i would trim all damaged leaves
I think your plant was doing well the way it was with the c,f,ls so you might think of going that the way it was just for now and start your next grow with the h,p,s. Because i was thinking that 400 watt h,p,s is a lot just 4 one plant. i dont know bro have a think about it any way. As i said before your set is cool so you seem to know what works for you. that main cola deff has heat stress i would trim all the leave but let the cola alone cause it should grow more bud on top of the other bud damage i hope any way
or if the raised cabinet dose the job you can keep it going but think if the main cola grow bigger then have you the room to keep raising the cab.
JamboJones
05-28-2011, 07:01 AM
I'm sure it would be keep doing well with the CFLs but, i want HUGE buds, because it's about to be summer here, and the temps in the summer is extremely hot, and wouldn't be able to grow another one until OCT.
so this one should keep me going until then.
anyhow, woke up last night to a cracking sound of glass... and as you know, troubles comes in packs, rushed to the cabinet and found out that the glass cracked from the heat of the HPS (bummer!!!!!),
DAMAGE: minimal, one small bud was severed and 2 minor one got hit, the rest of the plant was just leaning under the glass, so it got a little bit of angle now.
so had to clean up the mess at 3am. and the heat started to build up, so i had to open the cabinet and put a fan blowing on the plant the whole night.
i think i'm gonna buy a cooltube and finish with it!

Sorry to hair the bad news jambo
Hope every thing works out for you maybe a cooltube is the way to go. Cant wait to see her just before harvest id say its going to be a nice yeild hopefully enough to keep you going till your next grow any way. Il be keeping a eye on your log might even try Bubbleicious myself for my next grow.:hippy:
p,s, You can make a cooltube from a bakearound but you will prob have to oder it from the enet $10 to $20 might be more trouble then its wroth but have a look. ebay bakearound there for baking bread.

Well, maybe i'm a noob to indoor closet growing but it seems to me that Bubba's buds are thinner than i expected, I've been watching other growers threads and my buds aren't as dens as expected.
maybe it's because of heat issues (32C-34C) in my cabinet, or maybe it's because i've discovered today that my plant is infected with two-dotted spider mites (already started neem guard treatment).
she's got between 15-20 days, i hope they will get denser with time passing...

Very nice JJ! The last few weeks are when they put on most growth:thumbsup:
Ive had a similar situation with bulb falling and burning the top half of a big bud. Turned out to be one of the bigger frankenstein lookin colas ive ever seen :D
Day 44 and showing slight yellowing.. I think thats natural, as the plant is heading toward the end and using up nutes in the leaves. If you've been giving the same amount of nutes for the past few weeks and its just now starting to yellow like that, i think its natural.
Also, if you can get the bulb air cooled enough to where you can put your hand inches and be comfortable, they wont mind the high temps. My small grow box(1.5x1x1.5) has a 150W HPS aircooled. The temp gets to 95 and the plant stayed healthy dark green.
Good luck bro, you're on the final push!

You have the best answer from "Smoke my piece";
"Day 44 and showing slight yellowing.. I think thats natural, as the plant is heading toward the end and using up nutes in the leaves. If you've been giving the same amount of nutes for the past few weeks and its just now starting to yellow like that, i think its natural."
When the light is strong, and/or the temperatures high during flower, the gals will try to outgrow their roots.
In order to do that they take stored mobile elements like Nitrogen from the fan leaf.
The fans are used as photocells when vegging, they supply the energy to grow each node.
But their secondary job is storage.
They stash nutrients for the girls to use during flower, when they are no longer needed for stalk growth.
So do not remove them until they are finished "giving".
When they are "empty", the plant will form an abscission layer where they attach to the stalk and will drop them as a natural mulch where they get to recycle the non-mobile elements as well.
The abscission layer seals in sap and seals out pathogens.
You can keep them green throughout by lowering the light and applying high N. ferts.
However, high Nitrogen will screw-up flowering and can promote "foxtailing".
So, be's' let 'em get a li'l funky lookin' an' they will be a smoother smoke.
In short, it's mo' betta, to jus' let 'em do what they gotta do.
It's natures way.

After drying and now 4 days into curing total weight: 50g dry!
pretty low, i was expecting at least 100g, but it seems that my plant was suffering from heat stress and had PH problems that prevented it from developing in the end.
never mind, 3 of it's clones are vegging now, and in 2 week will go into flowering

long time no time...
Here's a lil' update on the 3 clones i've vegged...
They've been flowering for 40 days now, this time, i'm gonna take them to the limit,
Planned harvest is 65-75 days, depends of their development, my goal is 2 plants half trichomes milkey half amber, and 1 plant milkey with a few amber.
enough said...
here they are....
left: the bigger clone
middle: LST'd clone
