Petitions Due Out Friday Night (3/18)
March 12, 2011

Yesterday, Sensible Washington received our ballot summary language back from the Office of the Attorney General. The two summaries are now being compared and evaluated by our Legal team. We will announce our choice of either I-1148 or I-1149 in the next day or two, depending on which oneâ??s more favorable. We are confident we can move forward without further wrangling.

As soon as the required waiting period is over, petitions will hit the streets Friday night, March 18. They are due back to the Secretary of State July 8th.

This yearâ??s petition language is running long, which is a good news/bad news situation:

Bad news: It will be a larger sheet of paper than last year.
Good news: The petition will be designed to fold down to 11″x14″ (Legal), which makes for a much smaller signing board.
Bad news: The full sheet (22″x14″) isnâ??t desktop printable.
Good news: Thereâ??s less risk of unauthorized signature gatherers disenfranchising voters with unreturned petitions.
Remember that it may take a while for petitions to reach your neck of the woods. Now is a great time to put your address on a stamped (we recommend at least three) 9″x15 1/2″ Legal-sized envelope, stuff it into another envelope and mail it to:

Sensible Washington
3161 Elliott Avenue, Suite 340
Seattle, Washington 98121

Mail yours in today! And donâ??t worry if youâ??re one of the dozens of people whoâ??ve already submitted a smaller, Letter-sized envelopeâ??weâ??ll make it work.
