*Note on the Big Bang:
I started out with the fem 5 pack from GHS. I grew 1 seed (which hermied, btw), so math tells me I should have 4 left. :detective1: Right? Well, whilst cleaning my kitchen one afternoon, I found a seed under my toaster (deff not mine!) I checked on my pack and noticed there was only 3 seeds. ??Someone? (not naming names here) attempted to gank one, lost it or forgot. Anyway, I stuck her back in the pack, leaving me with ?? once again ?? 4 seeds. Well, the time had come to start a new grow. I pulled out my little pack and? 5 seeds? :wtf: Is there a bean fearie I am unawares of? I attempted to germ all of them and only 2 popped. Not sure if they are actually Big Bang. Only time will tell.
The Haze x Skunk #1 was germed two weeks later than the Big Bang, since I??ve read she??s a beast. Depending on how well she (cross your fingers and toes) grows, I will likely be topping her once or twice.
By the way, I welcome all advice/criticism. This isn't my first grow, but it is my first grow with an HID and AV nutes. So, please, if you see me doing something stupid, LET ME KNOW!

Yesterday, Big Bang-2??s leaves were praying towards the light. It can??t be reaching for the light as it is under a 400 watt MH and is about 14? (35.6 cm) away. The temps have been steady at 78°F (26°C). Anyway, after its 6 hour nap, she??s back to normal. Weird.
Big Bang-1 turned 3 weeks old yesterday. She looks a little small to me. Today I gave her a diluted drink of Iguana Juice Grow. 2mL to 1L distilled water. The water was reading a bit high on the pH scale, about 7ish. So, I added an itty bitty, teeny tiny, almost insignificant pinch of citric acid, which brought it down to 5.
I would like to wish my Haze X Skunk #1 a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!!! :birthday:
BTW, How do I add images? I guess I need more posts? What is a good upload site?

Thanks azdesertweller. I've read that molasses post a couple years ago. I did it once and the bugs liked it too much. However, the one I gave the ferts to is doing really well. I don't intend on giving her more for a couple more weeks.
The Big Bang-2 is starting to pray to the light again. It's 77°F in there right now. It seems she only does this towards the end of the light cycle. It's got about 2.5 hours left. Strange. Is it possible to have too much light?
GaGrown
03-10-2011, 03:05 PM
You can never have too much light.. Keep that Halide away from those tender seedlings. At least 2 ft away. The more foliage they have the closer you'll be able to move the lamp. It'll keep them from stretching so much. Getting kinda tall and lanky.. Gives them tendency to fall over causing damage or death.

Excuse me if I missed this somewhere, but I did do a search and came up with all kinds of results. My question is, has anyone introduced their plants from 18/6 to 12/12 by gradually increasing the dark period over a stretch of several weeks? Not that I'm ready for that yet, just curious.

I got a tent just like that..hehe. Yup Yup! That's what I'm talkin' bout! What size is your fan? Take that intake and pull air from outside the tent.Ain't it got a 6 inch hole in the top of the tent?
Sunmaid

Not sure which fan you're talkin' about. But the inline is 6", from HTG and the little purple one I think is 5". Its a powerful little fan ;)
I originally had it pulling air in, but temps climbed into the upper 80s, so I experimented and put it inside, temps dropped 10 degrees.
Is it just me, or is my cool tube ridiculously long for a 400w? :/

It can be used with all HPS lamps. A 400 is just a short lil' bulb. Good one though! You don't wanna know what I started with... The inline would be the one. What cfm is it? Just wondering if your tent is kinda sucked in,or what..

Its 160cfm. And yes, the front of the tent is sucked in a bit. Is that bad?

You need more passive venting, fresh air... Just crack open one of the 4 inch holes at the bottom.. It won't create such a drawing action,It'll make the tent relax more and give you a bit more room,too..

I use a C.A.P. digital timer and it can run a weekly schedule for lights. I begin my lights at 24/0 and program to lose 15 minutes of light a day and usually get to 12/12 in 7 weeks. I might stretch it longer if I am not filling the screen well enough but this is usually not a problem. I have found that it reduces stress and provides a more natural light stage to my plants. I got introduced to this method a couple years ago and swear by it now.

GaGrown, isn't that what the vent flaps at the bottom are for?
KarolinaKronic, thanks for sharing. I thought it would better simulate the seasons that way. I have one of those timers, too. Maybe I'll try that next grow.

I just noticed.. If you'll put the fan on the other end of your fixture, and put nothing on the end it's at now.. Then your flaps will work..

Is this what you meant? The front is still sucked in, though. The front is the only side w/o flaps. Why wouldn't they make flaps on the doors too? Dumb. Anyway, my light won't kick on for a couple more minutes. It has a 7 minute internal timer that activates if it gets unplugged. I wanna see what happens to the temp now. I've been cracking my window and its effin cold. If I don't, it gets up to 80 in there.

How far away is the fan? You put it on the outside? Is it just outside the tent?

The fan is in the 6" vent hole on the top, about 18" from the light. Hard to tell with the ducting. It is sucking air through the cool tube and exhausting it outside of the tent. I can't put it directly on the tube if that's what you meant. There is no room because that tube is frickin' long.
The temp has been at 78°F without cracking the window.
Big Bang-1 is giving me problems. The other two are fine, but this one is growing soooooo slow. She is 3.5 weeks old. It's yellowing bottom up, starting at the tip of the leaves. No brown crunchies or anything. I gave her the iguana juice when I noticed this, and I've been watching it get worse. :sadcrying

Seems to had done the trick then.. Temps are lower,now.. Right? Staying consistant? I think tha one might had just had a littlle heat stress. Due to the temps that were in the tent, before your change. Great job! On figuring things out!

I'm thinking about pulling Big Bang 1. I'm beginning to think its not Big Bang, as suspected. Big Bang 2 is, without a doubt, big bang. 2 is growing so much faster than 1 has, has broader leaves, and 1 has a strong odor while 2 has no oder at all. I've grown Big Bang before and 2 looks like it should.
Big Bang 1 is pretty damn small for almost 4 weeks. Think I should yank it?
I planted one of my unknown seeds from my Nirvana indoor mix pack, in case I decide to yank BB1 and if my Haze/Skunk turns out to be male. I should also mention that when I planted my reg seeds I used the "pit" method. Both seeds had the volcano pit, so we shall see how accurate it is.
I probably won't post too much during veg unless something crazy happens. Pretty boring for now.
Pics: sure wish I could add attachments and ditch imageshack

That is a 1 gal. pot. She is far from being rootbound, but thanks for lookin out
I decided not to yank her out. She has just shot up and got healthy out of nowhere. Didn't do anything special. Huh. I just fimmed her, too.
On the other hand, now Big Bang2 is acting as 1 was, and is about a week behind. I don't remember BB acting like this in the past, but.. ya know :stoned:

So when lights came on today, I went to check on my fimming job and saw that my haze/skunk got ill overnight. It's all droopy, and has large black spots on the bottom two leaves. I didn't do a thing to it yesterday. Look at the pics above, that is what it looked like when I went to bed. And now this :( What could it be? The soil pH is 6.4, temps are 78F, no ferts yet. I xplanted to a 1gal and the roots are nice and white. I brought out my scope, no bugs.

Not very likely. When I feed the other two nutes, I take them out of the tent and water them in the tub. So any shaking of jugs is done outside of the tent. Could it be that the pH is too low? The BBs are doing very well, have a nice rich green color. I use the same water w/o nutes on all 3. It can't be mold or anything like that, could it?

You know, I was just looking at it, it's not drooping and looking good otherwise. The last time I watered, I added pH down to the water because the soil pH was over 8. Some water did spash onto it, but I dabbed it off with a cotton ball. I bet the water burned it. I dropped the water to 5.0 pH to fix the soil pH, so it was a bit on the acidic side. I'll keep an eye on it, but I think it's going to be OK:thumbsup:

Transplanted BB1 & BB2 to 3gal square smart pots. Although, I think they mislabeled one because it looks like BB1 is in a 5gal to me. O. Haze/Skunk got transplanted to a 1gal pot. Bought some fresh peat moss today

Switched to HPS. Still 18/6

All plants are female, I think. The haze/skunk is just starting to show sex. Pics are from today. As you can see, those weird dark spots on the O.Haze/Skunk from a couple weeks ago was showing on the other plants. I checked the hell out of those for bugs and came up with a Potassium deficiency, which has been corrected.
BB1 is a retarded little plant. Nothing but problems from this one since the beginning. BB2 is lookin' good, and the little runt in the back is still hangin' on.
As I said previously, this is my first HID/soiless grow. I've used CFL/soil in the past and had much vigorous growth. This is the slowest friggin' grow I have ever had. BB1 is almost 7 weeks, BB2 is 6. I dunno, they just look really small to me.

Do plants sweat? The day after I water/feed, the haze/skunk wakes up with dew drops on the leaf blades. Smells like mango. I've never seen that happen before.
Here's a few pics of them at week 1 of 12/12. I'll probably post once per week until harvest.

my advice is this, hint you have a cooled fixture wich reduces hot lights so you can drop that sucker down to about 10 inches abouve do this and you will see significant changes in growth i also grow with a 400 watt set up and un vented i might add and i still have it no more than 15 inches from tops
Sunmaid

That light is actually about 6" from the tops. Any closer might be too warm, but not hot. Better safe than sorry, and I think 6" is plenty close.
I took that small purple fan on the left and attatched it to the open end of the cool tube. The temp went down only 1 degree, but it's getting warmer outside so it couldn't hurt.
They have really grown since those last pics were taken and flowers are forming all over
They had their first dose of FF Beastie Bloomz last night. I checked the pH too and it has risen from 6.4 to 7.4 since I switched to non-organic. Think its time to flush?

keep those temps down the best you can, and water often. those "fringed" tips mean she is either heat stressed or very thirsty (trying to disipate as much as it can but cant)...just my 2 cents for ya. good luck man!

Temps are 78 degrees F with lights on/69f off, and they are well watered. That plant is weird. Its had blade edges like that from the beginning. I always water at night when the lights come on, then the next night it will have beads of water on the leaf blades. And no, its not from water splashing onto them. It's weird, but it doesn't seem to be having any trouble. There is a photo of it below.
They all have signs of a N def, but Big Bang 1 has it real bad. I know some yellowing is normal during flowering, but not this much at 3 weeks. Correct me if I am wrong. I checked the pH again last night and it was at 6.3. Any ideas?

try and get your temps between 70 and 75 during the day and 60-70 at night. anything higher then 75 for all 12 hours is stressing them. its ok to have the room heat up to 80 as long as its not for long periods and constant. they definately are a lil hungry, give them a lil flush with a mild nute but dont go overkill on the mixture. start them out slow so they dont "nute burn" which will fuck up your ph and can cause salt build up as well. give them some nitrogen for the next two weeks then flush em and switch to a no N and all PK mixture. in the first post, third pic, i notice that the leaf tips are curling downward, this is heat stress and improper watering/PH balance. my ladies personaly like a 7 ph. do you have city water or well water? city water is usualy shitty for growing. lastly, water in the morning as soon as the light comes on and not at night. im just trying to help ya out man thats all, dont take anything the wrong way...fellow patient here
