My imput on this topic is straight and as yu have said pilgrem and yu have told absolutely NO ONE! NO ONE AT ALL? then yur good to go and be sleepin easy at night for life. BUT if just ONE pilgrem be known of what yual be doin yur chances of winnin the get caught lottery just become a very true reality.

LOL. The government uses a helicopter with flir capabilities, flies over your grow and spots the plant signature, not your lights burning.. :thumbsup:

So the theory of cfl or led is a farce for hiding your grow from not being seen..cause they do a plant count, not a heat of your house count...

Times have changed, they got smarter with their equipment uses... now they can't use the flir in court but, they can use it to contact the proper authorities to come get your grow...

I do agree with BWD on the Flir thing though for a couple of other reason's to. This technology is not getting used on a local gov't level by Deputy Don looking for a small time 2 plant grow. Certainly the feds MAY be using it looking for huge grow ops, if there are warrants, reasonable suspicion, and EVIDENCE in place I am sure. Flir can see a lot of other things that are not illegal but are very private (violation of privacy law). I highly doubt they are gonna spend the time, manpower, and money on a personal use grower. They could never justify it. And of course the point is NO ONE BUT GOD AND BKBBUDZ WILL EVER KNOW. So for them to find me using flir they would have had to have just accidently stumbled over my 2 little plants on a random area survellience. Lottery winning odds my friend. Of course it COULD happen, it is POSSIBLE, but IMHO VERY unlikely.

But hey just in case I will surround my tent with other leafy foliage to blend in for FLIR purposes. Thanks for the warning!

The thing I have heard is that for every person you tell, you increase the odds that you will get caught by 20%. Tell 5 people, and it is a near certainty that you will get busted. So, tell no one.

Here is what I have done for security. There is a war on drugs you know, and they seem to think that MJ is a dangerous drug... so if you are stupid and want to get caught, they will oblige you.

First, FLIR is not magic and as said it is very expensive to use. I have an indoor personal grow with no direct venting to the outside. My grow is inside a foil lined canvas tent, inside of the house. The only heat sources are a space heater and 8 florescent bulbs, which don't throw out enough heat to be noticeable. I am not worried about them "spotting" me. I have invested in my operation with proper air scrubbing equipment too. My grandmother can visit, and still have no idea what is going on in the spare bedroom, even with her incredible nose.

Any purchases having to do with this have been on pre-paid credit cards and the shipments went to a relative who could warn me if anyone came looking for information.

My biggest worry is the internet. Here I have protected myself with a dummy email account, running into another dummy account set up years ago with a friend's information, who again would warn me if there were any inquiries. Anytime I am on the forum or search for things to do with my hobby, I use TOR Download Tor (http://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en) to change my IP address. I am not an activist (until I go somewhere that allows me to do this legally) nor do I post my picture or my real information anywhere.

Also, learn your rights. You do not have to submit to a search without a warrant and you never have to allow an officer to come into your home just because they ask. Don't be stupid.

Just use your head if you are not in a situation where it is legal, and keep it small. If you must go big time, for pity sake, don't live where you grow and hide all trails that might lead back to you. A friend of mine in Florida used to find homeless people to take in that would unwittingly put their names on houses, cars, boats etc. before they moved on to do that thing that street people do so well, disappear. The authorities rely on criminals being stupid. The smart ones rarely get caught unless they make a mistake.

Certainly not on the local level. And the DEA with it's approx. 20,000 employees, most of which are support staff are not going to individually FLIR the homes of 300,000,000 Americans. They may go to these lengths, on an individual basis, if someone were suspected of running a commercial enterprise, or if someone gives them evidence to create a reasonable suspicion that cultivation is taking place on any level. So Unless, I decide to call 911 and ask how much trouble I am gonna get in, if I get caught (what a moron that guy is huh?) my original opinion of lottery odds still holds.

Were they are goin to check is were folks be pointin a finger at plain an simple. ifin yu tell not a single sole and dont draw any attention to what yu do cause it just yu and yu couple plants just for yu to use there be no one to point in yur direction to draw leos attention. it all starts with someone sayin to leo hey they get alot of weird traffic all hours of the night at that place or hey leo friend of mine said they heard this person grows MJ this is what starts the ball rollin for the slight investigations that if warrented on the information get escilated to the eventual capture. Are you saying these documents are manufactured to lie just to have the cases dismissed?? There is a reason they can't be used in court... My guess would be because of these reports I have, which did by the way get dismissed because of how intrucive they are..privacy violating technology..

your lottery theory would be correct for the average bet.. but, beings I have seen it first hand[multiple times in my neck of the woods] and also have the cases which actually came from the wa. national guard under an FOIA request.. and of course your correct about them standing outside the home for sometime searching.. it still happened...

Ok, ok, I believe you I am tearing down my babies and giving away all my shtuff because now I am sure the DEA is standing outside my door with their FLIR equipment even as we speak. And I am sure James advises everyone else here to do the same. By the way, we should all get together and file a class action suit against the authorities for invading our privacy that would include every person in the country because they are obviously going to every building, home, and apartment and using FLIR to spy inside, right?

The above is quoted directly from an amendment of the FOIA, disallowing use of such information and making it unconstitutional to use any such gathered evidence against an individual.

Now, could the agency using the equipment to compile evidence turn it over to other authorities as a 'whistle blowing' tactic, yes. Is the government spending BILLIONS of dollars and man power hours going door to door to collect such evidence in a useless attempt to destroy every single cannabis plant in existence and simultaneously putting probably 2/3 of the populace in jail because of all illegal activities that may be going on in all our homes? I think not, but I could be wrong. I just hope our Freedom and personal privacy rights have not diminished to the point where door to door spying is seen as an acceptable practice.

Here be the kicker pilgrem i be takin it even further then this here yual be sayin. See I live in the woods lots of land be had around me and truth be told all be known I be a growin be yu folk here in this site. There is no Misses or any other person in my life right now that comes in my apt. I have not had a single sole including my LL, who lives 4 states away, in here since I moved in. I have 1 neighbor in my immediate area and he is a :stoned: anyway (but the LAST person I would want to know what is in my place), just pointing out that even with all the odor control I would use when flowering if he did smell anything, he would just think I am burning some buds. We are both pretty private people (for all I know he could be growing his own as well), I smell it coming from his place very regularly and hear the obligatory coughing etc. I know he must hear and smell the same.

There is some validity to this statement as well unfortunatly but not all pilgrems are as easy to do this to and this BAD cops need to do research on who they be settin up before they be doin it cause there be one thing a bad cop aint goin to want to do is run into the likes of someone like well me ;)!
As for these here bad apples they are few and far between in most cases and once they be out as bad cops there departments use them as sacrificial lambs when it needs to save face from its communities. They may be out there but it comes to them all in the end. I do have independant knowlege and exsperience on this subject :D

I think they are looking for grow houses, more so than a grow closet. What a grow closet would show is not anything that leo would be interested in using much needed resources to bust. They are looking for the big boys/girls with the big grows.

I truly don't believe they are looking for the little guy/gal with a plant or two growing to medicate themselves in their closet/tent/box etc. I think they would prefer you grow your own sparce grows then buy from and in turn, support a drug cartel or lord. This is just IMHO. Might be wrong, but I tend to believe it is not.

I am in my mid 40's been using cannabis since 1979. In all that time I have been involved in some pretty risky business when it comes to enjoying the herb. Even buying a small quantity from a trusted friend is not safe. Some cop may be working him/her to try to get to his supplier. Anyway, I have never ever had a single run in with the police over MJ. Actually, I have only ever spent 1 night in a lock up cell for having open alcohol in a car on the way to see Iron Maiden when I was 17 and I was not even drinking! I lost the 1/8th of budz I had because I ditched it where they were processing all of us youngens (must have had 25 of us), the cops never detected it though. Turned out too be an ok night though I was able to drop the 3 purple micro dots I had before they locked me up but, I digress. I know people that go into the 'bad side' of town to get dime bags of schwag, at 'grab ond go's'. There is an area in my (and probably every one else's neighborhood) when you drive through it at least 5 guys will try to whistle you down and sell you every substance known to man. I am quite sure buying pot is much riskier than growing a small personal use only crop. IMHO.

You have your intent to educate. I'm all for it. I just don't feel good when anyone might compromise the situtation of any other MMJ patient or the like due to their own hurt feelings. We are all human. Born to make mistakes.

I find no fault to anyone unless fault is warrented. I have lived a very painful life watching people die in my arms of love trying to calm them and shelter them from the storm they believe is coming and what not. Too painful to even go into and not something I want anyone to think about at night when they lay their heads to rest. It's my lot in life. I chose it and deal with it on a daily basis.

Please, don't hurt anyone with your wraths you may feel are warrented. I know what you feel, but try to overcome it. I would really appreciate it. Love is so hard to come by in this life. I read the story in the link, most unfortunate. yes these people are certainly victims of the so called 'war on drugs'. But again, I do not intend to sell, distribute, give away, trade, barter, or even tell another living soul what I have in my closet. The authorities have no reason at all too suspect I am doing anything illegal at all. They are NOT sitting in front of my house with FLIR or any other equipment and as long as I never do anything to draw attention to myself or to allow them to 'make an example' of my grow, they NEVER will be. The people in your story were drawing attention to themselves and seiing as they were distributing without the necessary 'permissions' they became targets. Did they deserve what happened to them, no. But neither does Marc Emory. They raised suspicion on themselves. That is why they were caught and made an example of.

If I am wrong though my friend, after I pay whatever cost I am forced to pay and get out of jail, I will come home, log in and publicly apologize to you for ever having doubted you. Fair enough?

chances of getting busted, slim to none. flir reads heat(ir) not plants.in doors use mylar, good insulation and a dryer vent or chimney.the heat signature of two 1000k lights would look like a glowing blob. next they will probably check light bill. they are after the cost effective busts.something they can get press and funding, not wasting tax money chasing cancer patients,or small timers.remember with flir you have distance,a moving object and vague resolution.(blurry image)plus conflicting heat sourses. i'm x military intel photographer.u.s.n. most people get busted for something stupid ie; x girlfriend, smoking joint at red light,landlord etc. so keep low and quiet and good luck.

I know this is an old thread but thank you. this thread has kinda deviated off topic a bit :stoned: but I'm pretty sure led would have no heat sig or nill and cfl would, but they are used commonly today in most homes, so I don't see that triggering a 'hit'. i think would think that using one of those two, in combination of course with telling absolutely no other pilgrem in the whole world, one would be safe.

especially if you live in CO or WA :greenthumb: there just get the biggest brightest highest wattage light you can find and let her fly. :) you lucky dogs, you.

plus cfl's likely have less heat that normal incandescent light bulbs, so I would think you could have quite a few before you even match the heat of standard 100 watt light bulb, so i'm just not seeing how they could catch you with flir and/or electric records. high wattage hid lights, yes, cfl and led, i don't think so. i would be interested in seeing one documented case where a small personal cfl or led grow was busted with flir. i would say its impossible but i'm no expert.
