We buy our weed in grams here, so when I read on international sites how much people smoke and what they pay for an ounce(oz) or an 1/8 a 1/4, a 1/2 etc. I'm always confused and have no clue what they're talking about and whether the prices are good or not.

There are so many different ounces and pounds that I don't even know which ounce or pound to use if I want to convert to grams.

(source wikipedia)
International avoirdupois ounce 28.3495231 grams
International troy ounce 31.1034768 grams
Apothecaries' ounce 31.1034768 grams
Maria Theresa ounce 28.0668 grams
Dutch metric ounce 100 grams
Chinese metric ounce 50 grams

Pounds are even more confusing: Pound (mass) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_%28mass%29)

And what is an 1/8 or a 1/4, 1/2, etc? I often just read something like, "I bought an 1/8". Is it an 1/8 of an ounce or a pound?

I'm so confused about that.

So, how to convert ounce, pound, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc. to gram, which measuring units are used in the weed business?

Thanks.:baggy:

31 grams in a Troy ounce
28 in an Imperial Ounce
15.5 for Troy Half, 14 for Imperial.

Rest handles itself if you see the pattern.

Cheers!

When people talk just about ounces, how can I know about which ounce they talk?

I've never seen anybody saying he bought a "Troy" ounce or an "Imperial" ounce. If they just talk 'bout ounces, how can I know which ounce they talk about, if both are valis possibilities?

Thank you. Thats the imperial ounce, I suppose. But is the Imperial ounce always used to measure weed or could it as well be the above mentioned 31g Troy ounce? How can I know about which ounce people talk?

How can I know about which ounce people talk?

Ask them. If nothing else, there is entertainment value in watching them blink and stammer out something to the effect of, "er, um, ah, . . . I beg your pardon?"

:D

One is used to weigh valuable metals, etc. The other is commodities and the like. And there is a difference between a metric ounce an the Us oz. I can remember weighing out oz using the old hanging scales. As long as 16 turned out equal.................:lol5:

if I'm not mistaken, it's really 28.5g in an oz, but u usually get 28. Some of the lists above are scattered so I'll try to help:

1 oz = 28 grams so an eighth is 3.5, a quad is 7, and a half is 14.
1 lb = 16 oz so a QP is 4oz, and a half is 8oz

This is in America.
