The candy store was the place to be. They had them on every corner practically. Sadly, most are not in business any longer due to being able to buy candy anywhere these days. Another american icon that went to pot. ooo, I said POT! :stoned:

Hell, I may as well join the old farts parade . . .

I remember when a quarter (my allowance) would buy me a comic book, some candy, & a root beer at the Rexall. I favored tootsie roll pops (2 for 1 cent)

Comic book - 12 cents
tootsie roll pops - 1 cent
root beer - 10 cents

The other 2 cents I'd either keep or blow on a mitt full of bazooka joe.

We used to scrounge for returnable bottles at 2 cents each. Steady source of income on those days. :D

Centenarians? OMGLMFAO! ... um, I'm so far away from being one of those that I wish and hope for the day I can call myself a Centenarian. Although, from your point of view, I can see how you would think that. Remember, any Centenarian would have had to be born in 1911. Not sure there are too many on this board, let alone on the planet. Although, more power to the ones who are! Gives me great hope to make it there and beyond ... :stoned:

And BB wants to know if that dam room is cleaned up yet....:D Now... when you got your homework and room done....there's them dirty dishes....they ain't gonna wash themselves now, are they??? J/Kin!

When I started doing this cigs were 35 cents, a loaf of bread was 19 cents and a gallon of gas was 25 cents...I could fill my hog up for less than a dollar!....the weed mostly sucked and you had to smoke an ozzie by yourself just to catch a minor buzz and it took an hour or more of steady tokin to even get that high (now it takes like 30 seconds?) ....I could get 5 pcs of candy for a penny, too....I always liked the sassafras hard candy for that price...hell, we still called root beer "sassparilla"....LOL! Startin to see why us old folks call them "the good ol days"? I used to buy 2 whole cartons of cigs for less than what a single pack costs now! Anybody else remember the strawberry soda pop?....the name escapes me right now...I chugged those when I got the munchies and cotton mouth...killed two birds with one STONE! LMAO! dam I'm buzzed...I remember when I was a kid and they raised the deposit on glass soda bottles from two to three cents...me and my running buddies figured we'd be rich from collecting those after such a big increase! Blew it all on strawberry soda, tho...:wtf:

Hey guys,
Don't let the young whipper snappers get ya down.
We are the last generation of do it your selfers. Play outside games like TAG and MOTHER MAY I, FREEZE TAG, RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT, COPS and ROBBERS, HIDE N SEEK. and REAL BASEBALL. Playing tackle football on a concrete parking lot. ( made you avoid the tackle ) These Wii driven couch locked kids of today lost a great part of child hood. I would not trade it for anything. Even youth. My generation had direction and an identity. I'm proud of who I am and where I come from and so should everyone here. Just wish I could find a Marathon bar. mmmmmmmmmm ! I may be a little more forgetful and my bones creek and snap like twigs in the morning and I get colder easier and a bit more slow and my thoughts wonder . Grape NEHI , ORANGE CRUSH.mmmmmmmmmmmm CHER WINE. If I had the chance to go back all I would do is take that 12 year old dipshit aside and pull his head out of his ass. Pass the Zero Bar.

We don't even want to be going into my "pool shark" days. When that cute, tiny blonde looked like a dope who could easily be had on the felt. Ah, their stupidity was my gain. Hey, needed some spending money back then. :D

Ah, we'd have to jump into a Delorean and head back to the future to when I had the skills, know how, sultriness and "no fear" approach to that sort of game under those circumstances.

Would definitetly have to brush up for a while to get my great english back and the angles etc. I should really go play for some fun soon. Been far, far too long. :)

Last 2 sports I played seriously were bowling, (Got a 225 patch) and darts. For which I have obtained several awards, patches, trophies and what-nots.

I'll tell you a secret, I have been craving to go ice skating for the longest time, since I had a few tricks and moves that were special. Wonder if I can still achieve them? lmao *Lynhal crashes hard on her "assets" on the ice and soon after regrets her craving*

Playing pools like riding a bike. :D 285 non-sanction 256 sanction. But haven't bowled in years with the knee. Had the nice hook, down the lane along the last three-four boards, then in toward the pocket!!! :smokin:

I played a lot of darts in Poland. Great way to make friends. The local pub near where I was living had a Polish commando Base near by. And I played against them. Had one Lt. to where he owed me 10 beers, and I lightened up. Another game, it was 19-17 in 1-20, I was down.....three darts left....18, 19,........the room got quite...20 and game!!! :D Was playing against one of the local neighborhood guys, and that win get me in real good with the locals. We had a dart board when I was young. :lol5:

Go clean your room . . . :D

all clean now :)

Nice!!! Do as yur father/mother said!!

well... most of the time anyway.;)

Yes, Emmie...we are older than dirt itself youngun....you got all your homework done yet? ;) I got wrinkles and full head of long gray hair that hangs down to my butt and I earned every one of them the hard way! And BB wants to know if that dam room is cleaned up yet....:D Now... when you got your homework and room done....there's them dirty dishes....they ain't gonna wash themselves now, are they??? J/Kin!

dang... this is why I moved out... work work work...

Okay, I will admit to being a bit buzzed, with a shot of Tequila under my belt for fun, but I see the last several posts after mine as, "You've been spanked you naughty, lovable youngin'!" :S3: It could just be me though.
:S2:

Naw naw....Lyn We would never spank Emmie...she's a good girl with a good head on her shoulders....just got to put some different perspectives in front of her now and then, so she remembers how we got to here and now...

you are a bunch of lovable old farts, but I really think you might be enjoying this spanking a bit too much. :D
No worries my friends... I feel the love. It's not like I am fresh out of the box either... I am over 30 now. I guess I am sort of between worlds... I had a Sony Walkman when I was a kid, now the kids don't know what those were. I remember the time when cell phones were the size of a small loaf of bread... and had antennas... and as a matter of fact I had a pager first... remember the early pagers that just showed you the number of the person calling you? It was a big day when we got the newfangled text pagers and I was 16 before I got my first cell phone. I remember how mad my mom was about that too. My first computer ran DOS 3.2 and was a screamer... it was a 286 running at 14mhz. I remember saying that I would never use a mouse or windows. My dad (who is closer to most of your ages in his 50's) kept up though, and moved me along as the computers upgraded. I had a 386, a Pentium... and I did eventually move to windows and a mouse. Modems went from 300baud to 1200 to 5600... and we suffered with the Millenium operating system together. I remember the VHS/Beta debacle and then saw it become moot as we moved to CDs. And I remember moving from dial up BBS systems to watching the birth of the internet. I remember a time before microwaves. We are not so different, you and I. We have all seen incredible changes in the world around us, and more is on the way. Today I just witnessed the death of the school book. There was a report on the news of a school district who has gone to using Kindles for every student instead of having textbooks. Just as it was in your day my dear ancient ones, these times, they are a-changing. It is a brave new world, and we are all here learning together. Old and young alike, will not recognize this world in another generation, just as it ever was.

Peace my friends... we are all in this together and having fun!

My dear Emmie, honey, if your just in your 30s, you can't remember a time before microwaves. JC Penny had one in the 60s at their lunch counter (wave of the future) in the shopping center about a mile and a half from where I grew up. We used to get steak sandwiches microwaved. And the old counter at Woolworths that you could get a entree or just a fountain cherry or vanilla coke. :D

Now, I won't spank you, just enlighten you to new knowledge!!! :lol5:

He he he....ain't she cute? Over 30? We'll always be slightly ahead of you in years, my dear! I was in Jr High when my neighbors got the first residential microwave, (1971? '72 maybe?) you were not born then, hun...it burnt hotdogs to a black crunchy charcoal in ten seconds! The first ones were way too powerful! LOL! Scared the crap out of us....we thought it was nuclear!!! :wtf: (should we be wearing lead aprons to cook these hotdogs? Did they give you some with the microwave? NO??? I'm standing back from it!!! Let's try 5 seconds...) The hot dogs literally jumped around cooking inside the dang thing! It was bigger than a regular oven too, and weighed about 200 lbs! You had to have a big kitchen counter to even consider one!

Back in the day when I was in the car biz in Dallas, I had to install a "car phone" in the owners demo caddy...it was a suitcase weighed about 150lbs that mounted in the trunk and had to have a regular type handset wired up to the front dash....took all day, and he paid like 6 grand for it (maybe half the price of the car back then!)...also in the 70's....friggin owner hovered over me all day...."ya done yet???" "NO!" "Ya done yet?" "NO!" "why not?" "It's the first one of these I've ever done! muttering cussing pullin 87 friggin wires under the carpet..."....I wanted to punch the rich bastard! :wtf:

We're just teasing you Em! We wouldn't do it if we didn't like you!:D

wow... live and learn. I had no idea microwaves were that old. I can only imagine how scary they used to be back then. I think we got our first one when I was still pre-school. I remember it because that was shortly after the stove caught on fire and dad and mom with seemingly superhuman strength shoved it right out the back door while burning and into the yard. Funny the memories that stick with you.

p.s. watch out for those Bees'. I have some in my bonnet that I try to watch out for.

My Aunt Katie decided to have a "microwave" dinner for the entire extended family to show off "her skills" with the microwave. I was just a sprout at the time, and once the meal was presented to me, I whispered to my Mom, "This looks like the Mighty Dog I fed to Rebecca before we left today."

My Mom laughed so hard and so strong that everyone had to know what was said to her. Needless to say, I got in the "bad book" of Aunt Katie after that day. HEY, I was just being honest. She sucked at microwave cooking and in not so many words, out of the mouths of babe, I told her so. Wish I could take it back now ... :(
