help starting grow room in basement

Ok I am about to start growing again and I need help setting up my closet. I live down in the basement and my room is a little cold and the closet is the same way; it's under the steps that you walk down(does not insulation). I know I need a heater(really need another way without heater) and want to know if I need a humidifier. Give me some ideas don't have much money...For now about to start working hopefully again.

please read all the stickys....then the grow logs all your questions have answers there....do some homework.

To start you need three things:

-Soil
-Lights
-Pot

*And of course your seeds (obviously)

Lighting - CFL's are great for beginners and cheap (look into that)

Research those 3 things and you should be at a decent start.

Oh and humidifier and all that other stuff is always GREAT! but optional! unless you really need it because of your enviroment.
You can also get a mini heater/radiator for around $15 CAD or maybe try LOES (US).

about heater it depends what lightning you gonnas use.
you def need a good venting sistem..write yor plans and mesurments and i might be able to help you.

Ok this is a great place for around 8 plants or more but since am a starter at this am just going with 1 and then go more from there. Please tell me the best things to get if you can I have researched on everything to even mr.green but hearing from exp is better. i am also doing a hydroponic system too so hook me up the cheapest way too. Thanks

Nice space, I'd go for 400w switchable for lighting, Panda film for reflective/light barrier, and dirt, since it's harder to mess up and loose a dirt grow than it is a hydro grow.

Ok thanks and am to broke at the moment to buy that light so I just bought a 125watt inside plant light for now you think that would be good

What light? Got a link? If done right I'd bet you might be able to pull .75 oz off a SINGLE plant under that kind of lighting,... but I'd be surprised to see that kind of yield.


You might be the one to prove me wrong tho.



Bear in mind while you contemplate this whole growing thing, it takes 3-5 months to yield a meager 1.5-2 oz (per plant) under a single light.

A "Typical" plant in my experience if thrown to flower from about 4-6" tall only yields about .5-.75 oz.

Just because the plant is smaller doesn't mean it takes less time to flower, that .5 oz STILL takes 2-3 MONTHS to finish depending on strain!!!

Large yields require more vege time, 1-2 months before the 2-3 month flowering,.... but then you have a small tree that requires a LOT of light, and no single 125w light will suffice.



As for the 400w HID light, I paid $160 shipped to my door for mine. The 400w will do about a 3.5x3.5' footprint, and could do about 12-16 clones in a SOG (Sea Of Green, or all plants are thrown to flower from day 1) style grow,... so .5 oz per plant (Guessing) .... so you can see where it pay's to get proper lighting right?

I don't know much about hydro as I'm a soil gardener. So I'm afraid I can't really help there. ;)

definitely CFL's or LED's for light, they are cheap and low heat and work decent enough for growing..

Ok,... I see the CFL's being cheap,... but good LED's aren't. I've got one that can do about 1/2 the foot print of the 400w, cost me 2x as much as the 400.

There's no heat with LED and quality is improved over HPS for budding, but yield is reduced slightly as well.
