we are running a HPS 1000 lite and was wondering if we add a 1000 non-sodium lite to the mix will it effect the grow.??

i assume you are talking about adding a metal halide light? if so, it will help the grow

so let me understand this better...you can mix the grow lites even with the differant lite spectrum from the two differant types of lites without harming the grow...if this is true then we might not have to buy a new ballast and lite setup and this would be a good thing.

Yes you can mix different light spectrums, matter of fact Hortilux sells a bulb that does just that. I once did a side by side grow of the same strain, one was flowered with hps, the other with strictly halide. The halide result was close to a 20% drop in yield but it was definitely more potent, so mixing the two is not bad at all.

halide supposedly causes more vertical, less compact growth in flower.

keep in mind when adding 1000w's you are going to change the environment in the room and will need to move more air. this is exponential as you add light (aka heat). if you can place the ballasts in an adjoining room, that helps...

i mix LED w/1000w HPS and get great results...LED's are far more efficient than MH

Some growers switch back to MH light for the last few weeks since the blue spectrum seems to encourage trichome production and raise potency.

Like Copobo said tho, if you add a second light of that wattage make sure you adjust your environment to handle the extra heat.

think of it in its natural state, with the sun. the sun is full spectrum

i concur. and will add that additional lumens are always good if you can manage them safely(dont want a fire) and effectively( such a heat as mentioned). heres a catch though, plants under the mh will not recieve as much red spectrum so you may need to rotate to balance that. i also had good results with the mix of lights.

Without more detail it's hard to say with any accuracy what the result will be, but here are a couple points.

You will add more lumens to the room. Light = Yeild
Many growers sub out a small number of HPS for some MH lamps in their room to add blue light.
As long as heat is not an issue, I don't believe it can hurt.

i experimented with all hps and all mh during flower. the mh makes a smaller trichome. i prefered the hps for yield and potency.

i just tried a crop where i had both hps and mh and rotated the bulbs every 3 days, i didnt like the results, i noticed a lot of uneveness, clear heads and amber heads at the same time.

use halide for veg to get compact nodes then switch to hps for flower.

you can look into DUAL ARC bulbs. they are a 600w hps and a 400w metal halide in one bulb. i have sold a few, but not many.
