View Full Version : Is something wrong with the cotyledons on my seedlings?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and a new grower as well. I started germinating 10 Green House Hawaiian Snow seeds last Thursday night. Soaked them in distilled water overnight and when they shank I moved em to a paper towel. On Saturday morning roots had sprouted out of 9 and were moved in rockwool that was kept in a dark warm place. Sunday night the first tips started popping out and Monday morning they were all out.

4days later and they all have roots popping out of the bottom from 1/4'' to 2'' long and I was thinking of moving em into the soil tomorrow and turn the 430W HPS Agro on as well. This is my first grow so be patient with me!

One of the seedling's cotyledons is troubling me though with those bubble kind of things...

Is everything ok? Am I doing something wrong? Should I move them into soil or not yet? Should I add some root-booster or any other nutrient yet? I'm using Biobizz light mix soil (lightly fertilized at EC 1.2)and Cellmax organic nutrients. When should I start feeding them and how much/often?

are you going hydro or soil? if soil then dont add nutes for a week or two after transplant. if hydro go easy on the the nutes until established in the root zone. check your ph everyday. your seedlings look just fine thus far. the color in the first pic was the albino look from having no light, perfectly normal.

No I'm going soil and my "problem" wasn't with the first pic but with the last that the cotyledons look like they have swollen up and bubbled...

Thanks again!

dont even trip...they are fine. they die and fall off when their job is done. same with your first set of leaves. soil is fine just foliar feed, and wet with straight water in soil. younglings dont need a lot of nutes so dont get crazy. you shouldnt need anything for a week or two except foliar feed. get them closer to the light if you can, seedlings will stretch like a mofo.

Thanks again Med I can finally relax and get some sleep now!
I'm moving them under the HPS today, should I leave a little bit more distance for the first days or something or they will stretch?

I know I'm being a pain but it's the paranoia of the first grow I guess lol! :stoned:

Photo update to check the HPS height. Temp at the top of the plants atm is 22-23 Celsius or 72-73 Fahrenheit. What troubles me is the humidity, it's constantly over 65-70% and yes there is an air exhaust fan in the room... Anyway I'll see what I will do with the humidity nvm that.

Should I foliar feed em with the growth nut + root booster or just the root booster? Should I reduce the quantities from what specified in the schedule and how much/often should I feed them?

Here's the nut schedule for your reference.

Thanks again guys and sorry for all the questions...

It's best to leave them under fluorescents for about the first couple weeks. If you do move them to the larger light, keep the light a little higher so as not to fry them.

Thanks Tiki but it seems I was just posting for this matter on the same time you did and didn't see your response. Just check the photo I posted above and let me know. They have been under fluo tubes for 6days before I moved them today in the soil. Don't have any fluo installed over the pots though so it's kinda hard to keep em more time under fluo as things are now... Should I go get some CFLs and hang em above each pot instead, or the HPS will do if kept high? It's a 400W one and it's of the Agro ones with the +30W of blue spectrum in them too, 58k lumens. As I said temp at the top of the plants is 22-23 C or 72-74 F.

Start with the light about two feet above your plants. Keep it there for a couple days. Watch their growth and move the light down slowly to acclimate them to the stronger light. Probably about an inch or two a day.
