The only time I ever trim the roots is whenever there was a major problem. That is, say you are trimming the plant down in size and taking away A LOT of green branches, or you are re-vegging. So when you are cutting a lot of the plant down to size, you need to cut some roots as well. These is generally the only time I would be concerned and actually cut those roots.

when you do root trimming for revegging in smaller pots do you just cut into the roots with a good knife or is there a good technique i should know about?
