hey all.....just a quick question regarding taking back smoke...ok so i tend to take back a toke on a joint and keep it in my lungs for as long as i can :rastasmoke: it has always been my thinkin that the longer you keep it in your lungs the more you absorb the quicker you get baked....however a friend of mine said not to do this as it doesnt help to get you higher quicker but simply increases the amount of tar and other waste to settle in your lungs....just wonderin whos right and if keeping it in my lungs for as long as i can does really help things along

Over 30 yrs ago I was taught the 20 second rule. I don't hold it any longer than that.

As far as I know, your friend is right. I've heard that about three seconds is all the time it takes for the active substances to get absorbed and after that the risk is greater than the benefit. I don't have a source to cite tho.

In terms of you getting higher with sipping breaths, this is completely unfounded, but maybe additional oxygen helps the substances absorb more effectively? if you're holding your breath you might get slightly hypoxic and hinder absorption. Scientists?
