I have a rubbermaid grow box that is 1' by 2' with 8 23 watt cfl's. Ive kept the lights within two inches the whol time but they seem to be growing very slow. At week three there only three inches tall. Istarted from seed. Im just wondering if they should be taller. I havent used any fertalizer yet. Should I start with quarter strength to speed it up a lil bit?[

As for the height, it sounds like they are NOT stretching for the light, which is a great thing...so not to worry. I also have a feeling that what you have are probably an indica strain, which grow short and bushy. I am growing an indica dominant strain that is over 2 months old and just over 1 foot, but bushy as hell. On the other hand, I also am growing a sativa dominant strain (white widow) that is just over 3 months old and is over 6 foot.

thnx for the response. ya i thought it was indica. the leaves r short and fat. and they are pretty bushy. some other people ive talked to grew indoor indicas and they said theres were like 9 inches toa foot within 4 weeks. they were using mh lights though. does using cfls make that much of difference? i would like to upgrade someday but i know i wont have the money for a while.

I think it's pretty normal. Sometimes a plant can have slow grow periods while it focuses on developing roots. You could give it some weak fertilizer - just don't over do it thinking you're doing the plant a favor.
